The Proprietor is from the stage musical, Assassins by John Weidman with music by Stephen Sondheim. He serves as the opening protagonist and later on supporting character of the play. He represents the misunderstanding of the American Dream.

Role

Within the play, The Proprietor is the person who's morally responsible for the President's assassination. He claims that everyone; which includes possible assassins, deserves the right to be happy or their dreams which is how he convinces them to assassinate. He other source the assassins which their guns they'll be infamous for. The only assassin he didn't needed to convinces was John Wilkes Booth.

Appearances

His appearances varies, depending on the stage production. He's often portray as a Carny with a shooting gallery filled with American Presidents and other assassinated US Historical figures. In other he's shown dressed up as Uncle Sam, making his symbolic representation more obvious. Although its not common, he's also appears as a clown with patriotic theme to his attire. Even though, it's required to have a Bass-baritone vocal range, he has been played by females in some rendition.
