The Prototype: I... possess... a question.
Harley Sawyer: Go ahead...
The Prototype: Do you... feel... anything?
Harley Sawyer: This question referring to
what exactly?
The Prototype: You stick us. Beat us. Tear at flesh. Do you feel it?
~ The Prototype asking Harley Sawyer if he feels any remorse for experimenting on him and the other toys.
The Prototype: I admit though, I'm disappointed. After all that time in your case, I'd hoped you'd see things differently. Don't you understand? It's always been about you and me, Poppy. What we ARE. That's not a truth that can be burnt away. No. Not when it can mean so much more.
Poppy: Prototype- P-Please...
The Prototype: It's time to come home, Poppy. It's time to come home.
~ The Prototype taunting Poppy and revealing his obsession with obtaining her.

Experiment-1006: The Prototype, also known as Ollie, is the main antagonist of the Poppy Playtime franchise.

He is a mysterious but incredibly intelligent and dangerous mechanical entity created by Playtime Co., and is greatly feared by its inhabitants. As the prototype for future experiments of the Bigger Bodies Initiative, hence the name, Experiment-1006 went on to sabotage the project to prevent the creation of more toys from children and employees.

After using his influence and capabilities to gather enough toys to carry out his bidding by promising them freedom, the Prototype orchestrated "the Hour of Joy", an event that led to most of the toys going on a rampage, in which they massacred nearly all of the staff in Playtime CO., resulting in the company's dissolution and the facility being shut down and abandoned permanently, leaving only the Prototype and the rest of the monstrous toys to reside and wander in the the now-abandoned factory, ending the legacy of Elliot Ludwig and his hopes and dreams were shattered forever.

As of now, the Prototype assimilates and grafts dead toys onto himself for some unknown goal, and was show to take on the identity of a boy named Ollie to manipulate his enemies in every way possible. He is also the arch-nemesis of the titular Poppy Playtime, for trapping her in the case and tricking her about the Hour of Joy.

Portrayals[]

  • He is voiced by Michael Kovach in Project: Playtime, who also voiced the Scientist and Doey the Doughman in the same game franchise, N in Murder Drones, Rocky Rickaby in Lackadaisy, and Jax in The Amazing Digital Circus.
  • In Poppy Playtime, as he mimics the voices of several characters, he is voiced by multiple voice actors including Elijah Delaney, Nola Klop (who also voiced Stella Greyber and Poppy Playtime in the same game and V in Murder Drones), Eric True, Avalon Delaney, Baldwin Williams Jr. (who also voiced DogDay and The Doctor), Micah Preciado (who also voiced Huggy Wuggy, Micath Pierciado and PJ-Pug-A-Pillar), Christopher Tester, Meggie-Elise and Joaquin Augusto.
  • When disguised as Ollie, he was voiced by Reid Osiecki in Chapter 3 and by Jonna-Lynn Alonso in Chapter 4.

Appearance[]

The full appearance of the Prototype is currently unknown, as he shrouds his body with darkness and in the shadows, though CatNap's altar reveals he has at least a roughly inhuman and amalgamated appearance with a long neck and a human (or at least human-like) skull for a head. His arms are long and mechanical, consisting of a large claw with a set of five long fingers with several pivots on each joint. The arms also have human forearm bones (radius and ulna) and veins attached to them, implying that, aside from other toys, he had made the remains of the humans he had killed a part of him. In the "Deep Sleep" video, it's revealed that the Prototype's right arm is identical to his left arm, metal, bones and all. The Prototype is also gigantic in size, as his arm alone was nearly the length of CatNap’s entire body. 1006 likely has human and toy remains (like Mommy Long Legs, CatNap and possibly The Doctor) strung throughout his body, given the look of CatNap's altar.

In Chapter 4, his lower-body has the characteristics of both a spider-like arachnid and a crab, featuring six very large, heavy-duty plated metal legs using what appears to be the chelae of a scorpion as inspiration for its feet - bonded together with cables at each ligament.

It was previously thought that, prior to the Hour of Joy, the Prototype was roughly the same shape and morphology as the person used to make him, as it was not until Experiment 1160 that experiments were no longer bound to those rules regarding their shapes and sizes. By the time the Player returns to the factory, 1006 had grown in size, presumably through constructing a new body consisting of the parts of dead toys and humans. As a result, he is no longer human-scale, and is in fact enormous in proportion to the Player, probably being the most massive and true largest of all experiments. The exact manner of how his form was constructed has not yet been fully revealed, even though a good half of his full body is revealed, as the only parts left are the upper-body and head.

Personality[]

Intelligent, cunning, and crafty, the Prototype is loved and respected by those loyal to him, while being simultaneously hated and feared by all others. Though little is currently known about the original experiment, his presence has been constant in the Player’s journey. More will surely be revealed in due time.
~ The Prototype's official bio.

Upon first inspection, the Prototype is a wild, ruthless, callous, bloodthirsty, tyrannical and misanthropic entity, driven solely by a desire to engage in senseless acts of aggression. Nevertheless, various VHS tapes have provided evidence that this entity possesses an exceptionally high level of intelligence and exhibits strategic thinking. One account narrated by an unidentified scientist who worked at the factory detailed a remarkable incident in which the Prototype demonstrated his resourcefulness. Confined within a cell, he managed to fashion a laser pointer out of a digital alarm clock and cunningly employed it to manipulate a surveillance camera, facilitating his escape, though it ultimately failed.

In Chapter 1, there is a noticeable and attention-grabbing flashing message in the background. This message reveals that 1006, unlike the other characters, does not require sustenance to survive. This suggests that the Prototype may engage in acts of killing simply out of a deep-seated enjoyment in causing pain and suffering, rather than any actual need for sustenance.

In Chapter 2, when the Prototype emerges for the first time in a physical form, something peculiar happens. Despite the fact that he has just taken the torn remnants of Mommy Long Legs, a toy known for her aggression towards the protagonist, the Prototype displays no signs of hostility towards the protagonist themselves. This unexpected behavior suggests that the Prototype has been silently observing the protagonist's every move leading up to this moment. It raises the possibility that the Prototype may have undisclosed intentions or hidden motives for encouraging the protagonist to eliminate the other toys.

In Chapter 3, he shows a strong but justified hatred towards Harley Sawyer and the rest of the company for their highly abusive, cruel, amoral and immoral practices by turning their orphan children into toys to be used for labor, with his hatred of the scientists and their mistreatment of the children acted as the crux for his motivation of stopping the experiments. However, this makes him a hypocrite, as the toys he amasses into himself are implied to be in extreme pain, making him no better than the scientists he hates. He also seems to be calculated when Theodore Grambell and he tried to escape Playtime Co. When Theodore severely electrocutes himself with the GrabPack 2.0's Green Hand, instead of continuing with making his perfect escape, the Prototype willingly gets him somewhere where others will notice him so they would turn him into CatNap before he was recaptured by the security so he could start "The Hour of Joy." He also comforts CatNap in the official "Sleep Well" song, placing his hand on his shoulder when CatNap is reminded of his human life, to keep his loyalty to him. However, he had no problem killing CatNap, as shown near the end of Chapter 3, and he's said to have ignored Theo after he became CatNap, confirming he lost whatever care he had towards him, despite appreciating the latter's fervent devotion towards him.

All in all, The Prototype is a vengefully rage-filled individual, who was once sympathetic and had a justifiable reason for his actions as being imprisoned and wanting to save the orphans from their experiments. Despite this, Poppy still despises him and wishes his death because he killed many people, including guilty and innocent in The Hour Of Joy, showing that he's become no better than Sawyer even if he was another one of his victims.

In Chapter 4, when Poppy points out that The Prototype's allies (Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs, CatNap and The Doctor) were all killed off (excluding Huggy, who is still alive at the end), The Prototype is not bothered by it and only taunts Poppy for pretending to be strong, showing that The Prototype now cares for no one but himself, and deliberately set up his disciples as pawns to die. He is also shown to be highly sadistic and manipulative, spending a long time tricking the Player and Poppy that he was their ally, and when he reveals his true nature to both of them, he uses Ollie's voice just to mock Poppy. He is also revealed to have taken the remaining still-alive orphans as hostages in the factory's labs.

It's also revealed in Chapter 4 that he's shown to have an obsession with Poppy. In a tape with his Ollie persona, he would try to comfort Poppy, showing that he does care for her, but everything happened later on after that causes his care for her to twist into obsession about her. When he was taunting her near the end of the chapter, he tells her that it's always been about him and her and what they both are. He was the one who imprisoned her in her case in the dollhouse in Chapter 1. This confirms that he's possessive of her, likely viewing her as an object.

Powers and Abilities[]

Log Code 08502. In relation: Experiment 1-0-0-6, 'The Prototype.' A close call occurred this week, in which he nearly breached containment. The Prototype seemingly disassembled the digital alarm clock within his room, and utilized the battery along with several other components to create a laser pointer, which he then fired into the security camera, disabling it. These actions allowed him 28.3 seconds completely unmonitored. Once function returned to the camera, the room appeared to be empty. One surveillance specialist went in to confirm his absence. However, upon opening the door, she realized that the Prototype had hidden in one of the camera's blind spots. The Prototype attempted to escape through the open door; however, another surveillance specialist was able to remotely re-lock the door, despite the other specialist still being inside. One casualty occurred. The Prototype seems to possess an unprecedented level of intelligence beyond that of all other test subjects, as well as an alarming willingness to commit violence. Further suppression treatments will need to be enacted to ensure that no other experiments develop these qualities.
~ The Scientist describing how intelligent and resourceful the Prototype is.

Being the most intelligent and ruthless experiment in the Playtime CO factory, The Prototype is a very patient, collected, calm and cunning entity who always outsmarts any staff members that are against his plans to murder nearly all people in the Playtime CO. factory. He is also extremely intelligent, resourceful and manipulative enough to sway the toys into aiding him in his goals.

  • Genius-level intelligence: The Prototype proves to be the smartest experiment in Playtime CO, outsmarting the scientists and his enemies with his cunning, only matched by Harley Sawyer. The Prototype has been said to have created a laser pointer capable of disabling a camera for 28.3 seconds out of just a digital alarm clock. He also hid in one of the cameras' blind spots once it reactivated to try to escape. He is also intelligent (and sapient) enough to be able to bond with Theodore Grambell and try to save him when their escape attempt (which he probably thought about all by himself) went south. He is also intelligent enough to successfully organize a massive rebellion against Playtime Co. without much difficulty, aside from avoiding anything dangerous to him at the time. He is also intelligent enough to be able to graft dead toys onto his body and awaken them like a hive mind, with The Prototype as the center. The Prototype also proves to be a strategic genius in the long-term and short-term, using an Ollie persona to gain the trust of Poppy and become a close ally, manipulating everyone to go their separate ways while The Intruder plants the bombs by the Foundation and run away, which allows The Prototype to snatch them and use them to blow up Safe Haven, breaking Doey to the absolute brink that The Intruder has to kill him, leaving The Prototype with no more obstacles to get to Poppy.
  • Laser pointer (possibly): The Prototype used this in Log Code: 08502 to disable the security camera in his cell for 28.3 seconds. There is a possibility that it can disable other security cameras for possibly the same amount of time. It is unknown, however, if it can harm living beings, but likely not (although the lasers might be able to deal massive burns when they touch living beings and perhaps kill them).
  • Intimidation: The Prototype's grafting habits & extreme abilities make him feared by all the other toys. CatNap establishing his cult, which was notorious for its brutality against "heretics," only made him more feared. The Prototype is seemingly aware of this and has even used CatNap and his cult as his henchmen.
  • Superhuman dexterity: The Prototype was quick enough to be faster than any human inside when he tried to escape his cell, only being stopped by the re-locking mechanism. The specialist was still inside when the door closed, and the Scientist said that it was "a close call", likely implying that the door closed just as The Prototype was a few meters away from it. He is also flexible enough to fit one of his arms inside a ventilation shaft from the ceiling hatch in the Safe Room: the same hatch that CatNap came from when the Protagonist deals the final blow.
  • Superhuman strength: The Prototype is an extremely strong and brutal experiment, as he is capable of killing toys or human adults that go against his plans, even those known for their enhanced durability, making him the most arguably strongest experiment ever.
  • Sharp claws: The Prototype uses these to collect dead toys (in Mommy and CatNap's cases, and presumably The Doctor's case) or to kill his targets (for CatNap (again), the specialist in his cell, & during the Hour of Joy). His claws might also be behind some of the messages on the walls of Playtime's factory.
  • Enhanced Reach: One of The Prototype's arms (in this case, the arm he uses to kill & gather toy corpses) is capable of reaching Mommy's torso through a small gap. This arm is also capable of killing CatNap from a cramped area from the hatch above the Safe Room.
  • Stealth: The Prototype likely has the same hiding capabilities as CatNap, albeit far more better and refined. The most notable example being him hiding in one of the blind spots of the camera in his cell. He is also able to take the body parts of toys in a way where the only visible part of him is the claw he uses to gather the dead toys.
  • Voice mimicking: As shown in a Chapter 3 tape, The Prototype can mimic the voices of those around him. In Chapter 4, he was mimicking Ollie's voice the whole time.

Biography[]

Origins[]

The Prototype was created by Playtime Co. at an unknown point of time (probably 1988, when Elliot Ludwig is still alive even before Leith Pierre became the new CEO), before every other known Toy thus far. He was designed as an ideal vessel expected for the Bigger Bodies Initiative to move forward and bring Playtime CO.'s toys to life as workers for the factory. In addition, the Prototype was presumably the first sentient experiment to come into existence after Playtime CO.'s attempts to replicate the attempts of Elliot Ludwig, the founder of the company, at post-ported vessels to possess, the same scientific field as Poppy Playtime. Simply put, the Prototype was created as a test to prove that humans could indeed be placed into and transformed into giant toys. The Prototype was also stated to be an outlier with their other experiments, as he was stated to not require food for survival, which employees, primarily Dr. Harley Sawyer, enjoyed perceiving (even though he does have a fully functional digestive system). It was also stated that the Prototype shows a new trait of himself during every session, making him an interesting figure to examine. After the test of creating the Prototype proved successful, the Prototype was put into his containment cell in the Labs as Playtime Co. began moving forward with the Bigger Bodies Initiative.

Log 08502[]

During a session, an unnamed scientist recounted an incident that involved the Prototype; while confined in his chamber and being monitored at all times, he crafted a laser pointer from his digital alarm clock and other components in his room before firing it at the security camera and disabling it for 28.3 seconds. He then hid in a blind spot away from surveillance, forcing a surveillance specialist to come into the Prototype's room to confirm his apparent "absence." However, upon entering the room, she realized that the Prototype is hiding. When the latter attempted to escape his confinement, the door was immediately re-locked by another surveillance specialist. Now trapped in the room, the previous specialist was then killed by the Prototype, as the Scientist callously claimed that "one casualty occurred."

Log 24459[]

During a session with Harley Sawyer, the Prototype questioned him if he and any employees feel remorse for "sticking, beating, and tearing at the flesh" of the experiments. However, Dr. Sawyer managed to cleverly retort back by challenging the Prototype before pointing out on how he continues to uncover new aspects about him during each session. The Prototype thanks Sawyer before sarcastically mocking him in the latter's own voice that he too learned something about the latter every day, not accepting Sawyer dodging his question.

Meeting Theodore Grambell[]

The Prototype escaped confinement and hid inside Playcare, recruiting a troubled orphan named Theodore Grambell to his cause. He frequently encouraged the young boy to sabotage Playtime Co., but to no avail. Their friendship became notorious among the staff, who at first believed that the boy's "friend" was imaginary.

One day, the Prototype tried to make Theodore free him and the other toys using a GrabPack 2.0, but the inexperienced child accidentally electrocuted himself. Despite having the opportunity to continue his plans, the Prototype instead brought the wounded boy to Thomas Clarke's office, the latter spotting him before he was recaptured by Security.

Two years later, 1006 reunited with Theodore Grambell, who had now become CatNap. During their time together, CatNap followed the Prototype around "like a lost puppy," as stated by Leith Pierre, with 1006 ignoring him.

Meeting Poppy as Ollie[]

Poppy: (Crying)
Ollie: Poppy?... Are you there?
Poppy: (Sniffles) Yes. Yes, I'm here.
Ollie: When you didn't answer, I... I mean... A-Are you feeling okay?
Poppy: I'm okay. (Sniffles) Really.
Ollie: Did the bad men hurt you?
Poppy: There's nothing more they can do to hurt me. Nothing more than what they've already done.
Ollie: Something's bothering you, Poppy. Something you... need to talk about?
Poppy: I don't need anything tonight. Ollie, I just want to sleep.
Ollie: I think there's more to this. More that you're not telling me.
Poppy: There's not.
Ollie: I know what you're doing Poppy. Talking like that. Don't think for a second that I believe it. Just tell me what you're feeling. Please, just talk to me honestly.
Poppy: Talk? Talk?! You want me to talk!?
Ollie: Yes, yes I-
Poppy: And what will talking do, huh?! Will talking to you make them stop?!
Ollie: N-No, it...
Poppy: I'm scared, Ollie. Is that what you want to hear? I'm scared, and I'm angry, and... And I really don't know what to do... The bad men don't say what they want. They don't listen. They don't care how much anything hurts... It's been weeks and weeks of taking things out and putting them back in and taking things out and putting them back in. Over and over and over. Nothing's EVER gotten better. And it'll never GET better. But you know what scares me more than anything, Ollie? It scares me that every time they do it... Every time they peel me open... I feel it less! LESS!... I hate them. And I hate him. And I hate... I'm nothing now, Ollie. No one. I'm a thing... And nothing they can do hurts me more than that.
Ollie: You're not nothing to me. You're Poppy. And talking with you. Like this... I know it doesn't make any of what they do right. It can't. But it makes me feel like a piece of me is still here. No matter how small they try to make it. Next to all of that, next to whatever they do... it means everything.
Poppy: (Crying)
Ollie: I'm here, Poppy. For you, I'll always be here.
~ The Prototype as Ollie talking with Poppy after she was experimented on, and comforting her.

The Prototype decided to create a disguise named Ollie, and mimicking a child's voice to have it more convincing. He used it with Poppy to gain her trust.

A tape in Chapter 4 shows an interaction with the two, with Ollie calling Poppy and asking why she was crying. At first, she didn't want to talk about it, but then she talked about the scientists experimenting on her and how much it's affecting her, saying how she hates them and hates their leader, Harley Sawyer, and ending with Ollie comforting her, saying that he's here. This would cause the Prototype to continue using his Ollie disguise, likely made by the Prototype to begin planning something against the scientists and the whole facility to get revenge for how they mistreated Poppy and every other toy.

The Hour of Joy[]

It was awful... So so awful... I didn't want... This w-wasn't what I... I thought we were gonna leave. Leave the factory. Not this... A-all those people... [Deep breath] Prototype says we can't leave. Not now. Not ever... I hate him. I hate him, and I hate this place. And I hate that he's... right. He explained everything. And he's right. We can't leave. It's too risky. What they did to us... we can't let it happen to us or anyone ever again. Doesn't make me feel better about the bodies, though. What he was saying about them. I know there's not really another option. The toys will starve otherwise. They'll die. But it's still disgusting. I wish you were here, Dad. I could really use one of your talks right about now. You'd know what to say. When you were running this place, you always knew what to say... I miss you.
~ Poppy expressing her horror and disgust with the Hour of Joy, and hating the Prototype for what he's done and the fact that he's right.

The Toy Experiments were getting fed up with the mistreatment, being experimented on and the abuse that Playtime's Scientists have subjected them to. The Prototype told the experiments, including Poppy, that things were going to change and they will have their freedom. Poppy believed that they would simply leave the factory, but she didn't know that the Prototype had other plans about it. On August 8th, 1995, at 11 AM, The Prototype revealed that the plan was not leaving the factory: It was a mass murdering rebellion. He ordered all the toy monsters that sided with him, including Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs, CatNap, Boxy Boo, Miss Delight and her sisters, the Mini Smiling Critters and Mini Huggies that sided with him, to begin killing every adult in sight. Kissy Missy only briefly participated in it out of anxiety and self-defense, and instead returned to the same spot she's at. They began their killing sprees, murdering hundreds of people in the entire factory indiscriminately, both guilty and innocent, and both employee and visitor. After it was done, he took all the orphans into the Labs in the very depths of the factory and placed them to sleep and had the experiments also drag all the bodies of the murdered humans down there as well to be used as food. The murderous event was remembered and named The Hour of Joy by the Toy Experiments.

His actions left Poppy horrified and traumatized, and hated him for what he has done, but the Prototype told her that they could never leave the factory, as he likely pointed out that if the outside world finds out about them, there will be the risk of the experiments starting all over again or worse, be killed off by the government authorities, as they can never let it happen to anyone else ever again. She still hated him, but she knew he was right about that, but this didn't stop her from turning against the Prototype, and she began to rally any other experiments that also opposed him to escape from him and made a shelter in the prison complex, calling it Safe Haven. During that time, The Prototype and his allies would make numerous attempts to break in. In the meantime, The Prototype would continue using his Ollie persona to continue talking with Poppy and maintain her trust with him and continue watching her and knowing of her plans.

Meeting Harley Sawyer/The Doctor again[]

The Prototype: Your suggestions have failed to produce the results I'm after. Have I made an error in allowing your survival?
The Doctor: Of course not. We just need more time to perfect the-
The Prototype: Time? Time is precisely what we do not have.
The Doctor: Then I suggest you find some more. That, or give me labs access. At least with the two of us-
The Prototype: That is out of the question. You will stay put.
The Doctor: Fine, but you have no staff, virtually no test subjects; it's hardly ideal conditions. Even when this place was fully operational, we were beating our heads against this. You can't expect to do it on your own so quickly.
The Prototype: The situation necessitates that it be done quickly.
The Doctor: I'm just giving you the facts, and the fact is we need more time or this isn't going to work. I can only be reactive up here.
The Prototype: Then of what use are you?
The Doctor: (chuckles) You know I'm still your best shot at cracking that secret. If I weren't, you would have already killed me.
The Prototype: A sound observation. Yes, you have made yourself useful. Provide me more options, I will try again.
The Doctor: Of course.
The Prototype: But... if you are stalling or worse... Remember, your usefulness is the only reason you were not stripped for meat and spare parts.
~ The Prototype talking with The Doctor in the Time VHS tape in Chapter 4.

After the Hour of Joy, the Prototype discovered and met Harley Sawyer again, now the Doctor, only to see that he was also betrayed by Playtime Co. and turned into an experiment, watching over the prison area. Instead of killing him and being done with it, the Prototype decided to make him an ally, seeing that he's more useful to him now that he's alive. A tape in Chapter 4 shows an argument between them about solutions from the Doctor that weren't working, with The Prototype re-questioning sparing the Doctor. The Doctor suggested that they need more time or give him access to the labs, but the Prototype refused, telling him to stay put in the prison. The Doctor points out that they still need more time and tells the Prototype that he can't do it all on his own, saying that he's the Prototype's "best shot". The Prototype decided to wait more and get more options, but told the Doctor not to stall or anything worse (i.e. betraying The Prototype) and reminded him that his usefulness is the only reason that's keeping him alive, lest he's stripped for meat and spare parts.

Project: Playtime[]

Despite the factory being taken over, Leith Pierre, who survived and escaped the factory along with Sharon and a few others when the experiments rebelled, began sending in Resource Extraction Specialists to go into the facility and retrieve more resources and experiments. The Prototype would learn of the intruders and Johnny and Maggie, and sent in Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs and Boxy Boo to deal with them and feed them to the other toys. However, the Toys got the upper hand and killed all of the Resource Extraction Specialists, and forced both Leith and Playtime Co. into stopping sending in more specialists, permanently closing down the Bigger Bodies initiative for good and leaving Leith and the few remaining survivors with nothing to do. After The Hour of Joy incident, Playtime Co. has been left with no other options but to permanently close its own doors, thus ending the legacy of Elliot Ludwig and his hopes and dreams were shattered forever.

Capturing Poppy[]

Eventually, the experiments' food supply began to dwindle, and this caused the experiments to starve and begin turning on and devouring each other to satisfy their hunger. The Prototype would learn that Poppy left Safe Haven for unknown reasons, possibly by using his Ollie persona to trick Poppy into telling him what she's doing. He started tracking her down. Eventually, he successfully cornered and captured her and imprisoned her in a case in a dollhouse room that's directly down a hall from Elliot Ludwig's office. He also likely told the experiments still loyal to him to not let anyone near her and capture her again if she gets out and to not let any harm come to her. He likely told Huggy Wuggy to patrol the main lobby and kill any intruder who enters the factory.

Poppy Playtime[]

Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze[]

WONDERFUL
~ A message under the Prototype's claw mark in the breaker room in the main lobby, presumably left by the Prototype himself

Experiment-1006 is mentioned in the death screens, where the protagonist is asked how they think of him.

A huge claw mark with the word "WONDERFUL" can be seen on the wall in the breaker room when the protagonist goes to turn on the power in the lobby.

The Prototype is mentioned in a VHS tape in the factory. In it, the Scientist explains how the Prototype is missing and directly responsible for the trouble happening in the factory but explains that he will not harm the research. Screams and Huggy Wuggy's roar are heard in the background, and the tape ends abruptly, implying that Huggy Wuggy killed the scientist. As the tape plays, the Prototype's hand appears on the screen before the tape ends.

Chapter 2: Fly In A Web[]

At the end of the chapter, Mommy Long Legs begs the protagonist not to kill her, fearing she'll join "him". After she dies, a large and skinny metal needle hand belonging to Experiment 1006 grabs her remains and drags them into the darkness.

Experiment-1006 is then mentioned in a VHS once again. In it, he is described as being very intelligent but also very destructive. He is even stated to have made a laser to disable the cameras and escape. This ended in the casualty of an employee. Experiment-1006 is mentioned once again in the death screens, where they said that he was loose, which led to the emergency lockdown, as it was mentioned in what happened in the first Experiment-1006 tape.

Chapter 3: Deep Sleep[]

Experiment-1006 appears directly in a VHS showing one of his sessions with Harley Sawyer. According to the scientist, the Prototype had been silent in all previous sessions, but this time, he asked him whether he could feel all the pain he inflicted on the toys with his experiments and later taunted him about how he learns new things about him with each session, just as Sawyer does with him. According to "Ollie", following the Prototype's saving of CatNap/Theodore at that time, the latter started worshiping him as a god and savior to all the toys imprisoned in Playtime, forcing other toys to join his cult and even building a shrine to the Prototype in the caves surrounding Playcare, the underground orphanage built by Playtime Co.

When CatNap is set ablaze and has his fur burnt off by the protagonist, the Prototype's hand appears through a vent above his dying follower before stabbing his claw through CatNap's mouth, killing him. He then takes the cat's now-lifeless body away for his failure to take out the protagonist. Soon after that, it is also revealed by another VHS tape and by Poppy Playtime on how Experiment-1006 orchestrated the toys' breakout and ordered the massacre of the entire Playtime Co. staff, including innocent visitors, in what came to be known as the "Hour of Joy," eventually leading Playtime Co. to permanently close its doors. As the protagonist and Poppy were descending down to the prison via a lift, Kissy Missy was suddenly attacked by an unknown entity (presumably the Prototype himself).

Chapter 4: Safe Haven[]

As the protagonist makes their way to the Safe Haven, they are pulled into a tight corner by Poppy Playtime and Kissy Missy, who is now burnt, covered in scars, and is wearing a cast. Poppy shushes the protagonist as the shadow of the Prototype's crab-like legs appears from the corner, searching for the protagonist. After a couple of seconds, the Prototype walks away.

After the protagonist finally kills The Doctor (with The Prototype possibly grafting The Doctor's remains onto his body off-screen), he returns to the Safe Haven to repair their generator with the Omni-Hand. The Prototype arrives at the Safe Haven and is kept at bay by Doey the Doughman. After the generator was repaired, the Prototype is nowhere to be found alongside Doey. When the protagonist successfully planted the explosives at the foundation of the factory, the Prototype sneaked into the foundation and relocated the explosives by the Safe Haven, killing all of the toys that were inside. Doey falsely blamed the protagonist for the death of the toys and attempted to kill them in revenge, only for the player to kill him in self-defense, with Doey apologizing in his final moments for letting his anger control him.

The Reveal[]

Poppy: Ollie? Something's gone horribly wrong. The Safe Haven-
Ollie: Shelf Ventilation Block B6. Is this where you are, Poppy?
Poppy: What?
Ollie: Stay where you are-
The Prototype: -and listen closely. You're not going to run. You're not going to fight. The charade is over.
Poppy: Who... Who is this?
The Prototype: An obvious question with an obvious answer.
Poppy: You... What did you do with Ollie?
Ollie: I'm right here, Poppy. For you, I'll ALWAYS be here.
Poppy: The Doctor. CatNap. Mommy and Huggy. They're all dead. You... You have nothing now. No one. And soon, you'll have less than THAT.
The Prototype: Stop that. You don't need to pretend anymore, Poppy. You don't need to play at being stronger than you are. You can come home.
Poppy: How... How much do you know?
The Prototype: Everything.
Poppy: This isn't right...All those years... Was there ever an Ollie?
The Prototype: Yes, there was. But that was a very long time ago. Let me tell you what comes next. I'm going to come up there, and I'm going to find you. Your collaborators, the few you have left, they will be dealt with.
Poppy: W-What are you going to do with me?
The Prototype: I've got something special in mind. And I've prepared it, just for you. And this one, you'll never want to leave.
Poppy: N-No. No no no. This entire time... This entire time, you've LIED to me!
The Prototype: Only because you've kept missing the point. I've taken the liberty of retrieving those explosives from the foundation- thanks for collecting those, by the way. I've put them to good use. I admit though, I'm disappointed.
Poppy: I can't go back into that case. I can't... I'm sorry.
~ The Prototype revealing himself as Ollie the entire time to Poppy, The Intruder, and Kissy Missy. while mocking Poppy by mimicking Ollie and how he played both sides and the special plans he has for Poppy before she runs off.

After the battle, the protagonist finds a vent and crawls inside, leading to a shelf ventilation block where Poppy Playtime and Kissy Missy are taking refuge. Poppy tries to call Ollie but to no avail. But when Ollie finally calls Poppy back, he tells Poppy where exactly the three are hiding and tells them to stay where they are and listen closely as Ollie's voice changes before revealing himself to be the Prototype. When Poppy asks if there was ever an Ollie, the Prototype tells her that there was, but it was a long time ago, suggesting either that Ollie was his name before he became an experiment or an identity he stole, and he also revealed that he was the one who placed Poppy in her case. Poppy then furiously lashes out at The Prototype for lying to her all this time, with The Prototype responding that she kept missing the point. He proceeds to taunt the group about their failures, threatens Poppy with being put in an improved case and tells her that it's time to come home. Overwhelmed by the revelation, her failures and her trauma of being in the case, Poppy sadly decides to flee and abandons the Player with Kissy Missy in the ventilation. The Prototype gloats about this outcome, leaving the protagonist and the injured Kissy at the mercy of the Prototype, who blows up the bottom of the vent block with an explosive. Kissy grabs the protagonist as well as the vent and tries to hold on to them, but her arm is torn off, and the protagonist falls into a chasm that leads into the factory's laboratories, where the Prototype, Leith Pierre (possibly) and a furious Huggy are waiting.

Other Media[]

Project: Playtime[]

In the canon prequel spin-off game Project: Playtime, the Prototype doesn't make any physical appearances, but his claws are also one of the collectible GrabPack skins found in the game.

It is also heavily implied that the one that instructs the monstrous toys during the tutorial is the Prototype, seeking to stop Playtime Co. from continuing the Bigger Bodies Initiative, which would lead to more orphans suffering.

Trivia[]

  • It was initially theorized that Experiment-1006 was Huggy Wuggy.
    • Others theorized that 1006 was actually the protagonist, and some suggested that it was Mommy Long Legs. Although all of them were disproved in Chapter 2 via the VHS tapes for Huggy, a clipboard in Statues for Mommy, Mommy saying that the protagonist worked for Playtime Co. for them, and 1006 showing up to collect Mommy's remains for all of them.
  • It is theorized that the Prototype is possessed by Elliot Ludwig, the founder and CEO of Playtime CO., who is angry and vengeful out of a newfound desire to assimilate with dead toys, representing Ludwig's unwillingness to move on from his daughter's death.
    • A secret tape in Chapter 4 reveals that Poppy is Elliot's daughter and given how obsessed the Prototype is with Poppy, this heavily implies that Elliot and the Prototype are one and the same being, as well as implying that the Prototype treats her a little more than an object of possessiveness.
      • However, if this is the case, he might not be fully in control, as Poppy, while dearly missing her father, fears the Prototype and probably would've recognized him if he was the main human used to create him, seeing as she met the Prototype numerous times. Another possibility is that only Elliot's body was just used to make the Prototype, meaning the Prototype is not possessed, but was created.
  • Due to the numbering of the experiments in Playtime Co., it is implied that the Prototype was created before Huggy Wuggy (Experiment-1170) and Mommy Long Legs (Experiment-1222), but after a failed experiment with a rat (Experiment-814). This same line of reasoning had also led fans to conclude that the Prototype was actually created some time after Poppy was, being the second successful attempt at creating a sentient toy.
  • Mommy Long Legs strongly implies that the toys the Prototype assimilates are still conscious even after being assimilated. If this is true, that would make the Prototype responsible for countless toys' suffering.
  • Unlike other trophy toys, his trophy name is "Claw."
  • Some believe that instead of CatNap sacrificing himself to 1006, CatNap thought that the Prototype would save him like he did long ago, only for 1006 to kill him so he can amass more parts.
  • Before it was ultimately revealed in Chapter 4, it was already theorized that the Prototype is actually Ollie, mimicking his voice to trick Poppy (or perhaps working with her). When he says that "so we can save a lot of people, including you," it really means that he is only tricking the protagonist into believing his commands, and by "save a lot of people," he means that the people are already eaten by the toys in order for them to survive after the Hour of Joy, and by "Including You", it means that the protagonist is next.
    • Another reason why Ollie is the Prototype is likely because it is known that the Prototype is the only experiment that doesn't need food to sustain himself, while other toys are starving, and it's been 10 years since the Hour of Joy, which means that it's impossible for a human to survive for that long without food or water.
      • A problem with this theory is, that although Poppy says all adults present in the factory, guilty or innocent, were killed by the experiments, she doesn't say if the children died or were freed.
        • However, the VHS Tape where Miss Delight pleads with CatNap to let her see the children only to be denied, possibly due to her murderous nature, suggests that they are at least alive & were likely released.
        • Poppy later reveals that the Prototype claimed Playcare's orphans and put them in a comatose state within the labs for his own means, showing that the original Ollie, if he was still human during the Hour of Joy, could've been kept alive for several more years. However, seeing as Poppy likely got her info from Ollie, one of the Prototype's disguises, it's possible that this was another of his lies.
      • Another problem is that it is unknown how the Prototype gains the voices he mimics, as either he is a full-blown amalgamation of souls sharing one body (possibly explaining the changing voices during his talk with Harley Sawyer before the end) or just requires enough concentration to mimic a target's voice (possibly explaining how he perfectly mimicked Harley Sawyer's voice without all the other voices interrupting at the end of the log).
      • Poppy also seems to know about Ollie to the point where she encourages the protagonist to trust his advice. Given her intellect, it would seem difficult for anyone posing as Ollie (in this case, the Prototype) to keep up the facade for very long.
      • An explanation for Ollie saying that they can save a lot of people could mean other kids like Ollie are alive in the factory and want to get out but can't; Ollie wants to save the toys, likely due to being raised by the toys (and likely taught how to use technology by the Prototype or Mommy Long Legs) so Ollie views them as people too; the "saving" is actually setting the souls of the children and adults trapped in their toy prisons free.
        • By this explanation, Ollie might have been just a small child adopted during the Hour of Joy & is therefore most likely 10-11 years old.
    • Several fans, including The Game Theorists, theorized that Ollie was a child who was popular among the toys, but has disappeared. The Prototype then used whatever memory he had of Ollie's voice to manipulate Poppy and mislead the protagonist.
    • This was ultimately confirmed in the ending of Chapter 4, where the Prototype revealed that he was Ollie the whole time and has been manipulating the protagonist and Poppy from the start.
    • The Prototype also revealed Ollie used to exist and that was a long time, which implies that Ollie was his human name before he became an experiment, or that Ollie is dead.
    • As the Prototype often remarks on his scariness and power when disguised as Ollie, it is implied that the Prototype is a narcissist, using this persona to compliment and build himself up.
  • The Prototype can be seen as a foil to:
    • Elliot Ludwig. Both are highly intelligent and charismatic individuals who suffered a tragedy (Elliot lost his daughter, the Prototype was tortured), which caused them to focus almost entirely on Playtime Co. (Elliot wanted to make it better, the Prototype wanted revenge against them). They are also praised by some in the game and condemned by others.
      • Ironically, it is theorized that both of them are the same person.
    • Harley Sawyer. Both are leaders of a specific group (Harley to Playtime, Prototype to the Toys), as well as being significantly the most deranged, the most heinous, and the most intelligent in the group. Both have an interest in observing others, and both are shown to manipulate others through psychological exploits. (However, while Harley is irredeemable, The Prototype seems to still have some standards and redeeming qualities, as even after he spared the Doctor and made him help him, the Prototype still clearly very much hates Sawyer, only keeping him alive to help him crack his secret and trying to get Poppy back).
      • Both of them also sought to sabotage each other's goals.
        • Ironically, both end up working together in Chapter 4 (though Harley was forced to work for the Prototype to save his hide). Even after every thing The Doctor has done, the Prototype still worked with him, with the latter no longer caring about the Doctor after his death.
        • Both are also aided by hostile feline toys (Yarnaby for Harley, CatNap for the Prototype) who are indefinitely loyal to them, but who they couldn't care less about.
    • Poppy Playtime. Both are experiments made by the scientists who are described in one way or another as perfect, experienced a tragedy connected to Playtime Co, are implied to be related by blood, and are aided by a large and furry toy (Kissy for Poppy and CatNap for the Prototype).
      • Ironically, we have yet to know about Kissy Missy's human identity, while we know that CatNap's human identity is Theodore Grambell.
        • Kissy Missy also assists the protagonist, rather than trying to kill them like CatNap.
        • Kissy Missy's toy also succeeded due to the tradition of making a gender-swapped version of a toy company's most successful mascot, while CatNap's toy was discontinued due to the Red Smoke inside it.
        • It is thought that the Prototype wants Poppy because she is the daughter of Elliot Ludwig himself and it is thought that he wants to bring her back to life completely.
  • In reasons to argue against genderlessness, The Prototype is, indeed, a male entity, as he uses he/him/his pronouns. More info on this will be revealed later.
  • The Prototype's voice appears to have changed between Project: Playtime and his later appearances, Project: Playtime has 1006 speaking in an original voice. But from Chapter 3 onward, he now speaks by re-arranging clips of voices. It is unknown if this was a simple recast or has a lore explanation.
  • If one looks carefully at the model of the arm, The Prototype has small metal spikes on the second and third pivots of his four fingers. These spikes might give the Prototype a bit more defense to protect the fingers, and can be moved around at will without breaking off, giving the spikes extended durability.
