~ Monster Vinnie before trying to kill Mary Schmidt. |
The Puppeteer is the overarching antagonist of the Five Nights at Candy's series. He made his only physical appearance in the Five Nights at Candy's 3 minigames, with hallucinations representing him appearing throughout the wider series.
He was one of the three actors at the Rat & Cat Theatre, playing the role of the puppeteer of the character Vinnie. One day, in an argument with his co-workers, he accidentally killed the Rat's actor and then purposefully murdered the Cat's actor to avoid punishment. However, a young girl named Mary Schmidt would witness his murders and reveal them to the police, resulting in his arrest and possible execution.
The Puppeteer's actions scarred Mary for the rest of her life. After revealing his actions and getting him imprisoned, she would dream about Monster Vinnie, a nightmarish version of his puppet, trying to kill her. After visiting the 1987 Freddy Fazbear's Pizza as an adult, she would start having hallucinations of a Reverse Puppet after seeing the restaurant's puppet animatronic and being reminded of Vinnie.
Appearance[]
The Puppeteer is a human actor with face-paint resembling the face of his puppet Vinnie. He wears a blue beret and blue overalls, as well as black and white striped trousers and shirt, which are also made to resemble his puppet.
The Reverse Puppet is, as one would expect from the title, a one-for-one recreation of the Puppet, except with a frowning/angry face and blue tear marks, cheeks and lips.
Monster Vinnie is a terrifying recreation of the Puppeteer's puppet Vinnie. He has crooked hands, sharp teeth and whitened eyes. He also has a blue bow tie on his suit. Furthermore, his tear marks are also blue.
Biography[]
The Puppeteer first appeared in the third game, where it is shown that he and the actors for the Rat and the Cat managed and performed at the Rat & Cat Theater. A qualified actor, the Puppeteer used an animatronic ventriloquist's puppet named Vinnie in his performances. Although the theater became very popular, numerous factors imply that there was much turbulence between all three actors, with the Puppeteer growing a massive ego and a want to maintain his career. He would eventually meet Mary Schmidt, a little girl visiting the theater who would ultimately prove his downfall.
One day, the Rat's actor came in to work drunk. The Puppeteer would confront him for this (unaware that the actor was playing Hide-and-Seek with Mary, and that she was secretly watching the altercation unfold), and the ensuing scuffle would end in Vinnie pushing the actor into Vinnie's maintenance table, breaking his neck and killing him. The Cat's actor would walk in on the aftermath and attempt to call the police. However, the Puppeteer, intent on preventing the ruination of his reputation, strangled the Cat's actor to death and, using his acting skills, falsely reported the deaths of the actors. While police investigated their deaths, the Puppeteer was never found guilty and even when on to star in a movie called Psychopath, to rave reviews.
A year later, after another traumatic incident involving her brother and a Rat animatronic (possessed by the Rat's actor and named RAT) at the reopened theater, Mary, who had previously repressed her memories of the actors' murders and the trauma of secretly witnessing it, would reveal the Puppeteer's involvement in the actors' deaths. The case would be reopened and the Puppeteer was found guilty and imprisoned, presumably dying in custody. Meanwhile, Mary would have dreams of Monster Vinnie, a monstrous version of the Puppeteer's puppet that would attempt to take revenge on Mary in her nightmares, but ultimately failed.
Years later, an adult Mary would visit the theater's (now named Candy's Burgers & Fries) rival restaurant Freddy Fazbear's New Pizzeria, where she encountered the Puppet, with the image of its appearance imprinting on her mind in the form of a recreation of Vinnie named the Reverse Puppet. Elsewhere, the Cat animatronic, possessed by his actor, was confined to the Rowboatics Corp factory, where Mary also worked. One night, when Mary fell asleep while monitoring the factory, the Cat found two twin children who sneaked into the factory and shoved them onto the factory's assembly line, killing them and turning them into endoskeletons that were later used in and would possess the Candy and Cindy the Cat animatronics. Following this, Mary would see the Reverse Puppet in various security feeds from the factory in different years, seemingly blaming her for letting the twins die.

Trivia[]
- It's been speculated among fans that Vinnie is possessed by Puppeteer's soul and not just an imaginary animatronic with some supporting evidences, but that's yet to be confirmed.
- Vinnie's name is most likely a reference to how William Afton, the main antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, which Five Nights at Candy's is based on, was originally nicknamed "Vincent" by the community before his true name was revealed.
