“ | Prince Daeron brought to his father, Aegon, an altogether deeper sort of grief when he was killed in battle in 251 AC, leading an army against the Rat, the Hawk, and the Pig. | „ |
~ Maester Yandel on Prince Daeron Targaryen's death during the Rat, the Hawk, and the Pig's rebellion. |
The Rat, the Hawk, and the Pig (real names: unknown) are minor antagonists in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. They are a trio of three men who led a rebellion against House Targaryen for unknown reasons during the reign of King Aegon V Targaryen. Their rebellion ended in failure, and the three men were either killed or executed. As their only known actions were at least thirty years apart, it may be possible that different individuals used the names of the Rat, the Hawk, and the Pig at different times.
Biography[]
During the reign of King Aerys I Targaryen, sometime between 217 AC and 221 AC, the Rat, the Hawk, and the Pig attacked Princess Aelora Targaryen, the Princess of Dragonstone, during a masked ball, and this would lead her to tragically commit suicide. Because the trio apparently wore animal masks, this led to them being given their respective nicknames that will be remembered in history in the years to come.
Many years later, in the reign of Aegon V Targaryen, the Rat, the Hawk, and the Pig led a rebellion against House Targaryen, which was suppressed by Prince Daeron Targaryen, the fourth and youngest son of King Aegon. What became of the trio is unknown, but they were either slain or hanged. Though Prince Daeron and his army were successful in crushing the rebellion, it came at the cost of Daeron's own life along with that of Ser Jeremy Norridge, his lover.
