| “ | Hell 101. Lie, but don't lie to the Judge. You gotta be dumb for that. | „ |
| ~ Paz |
The Red Judge is the main antagonist of the Outsider's video game Metal: Hellsinger.
She is a powerful, ruthless demon lord of the Hells and a former archangel who seeks to steal The Unknown's voice, doing any means necessary to prevent her from overthrowing her throne in Sheol.
Appearance[]
The Red Judge is a tall, skeleton-like entity with several red straps around her form. Her head is shaped similarly to other fallen angels such as Pazelius in his angel form. She also bears two wings that she can use to fly.
Personality[]
The Red Judge is cruel, sadistic, and shows no remorse for her actions. She often kills those that displease her, such as a Cambion that lied he destroyed Paz. She is also very determined with her objective, refusing to stand down after numerous losses against the Unknown.
Biography[]
Background[]
The Red Judge was once an archangel who was cast down from the Heavens and became the ruler of the Hells. Back during this time, she counted on the seven Archdevils to rule the various Hells, but realized that they weren't sufficient enough, killing them all in response and creating her own aspects to guard the Hells.
The Judge also steals the Unknown's voice knowing she will come to reclaim it and assault Heaven.
Main Events[]
The Unknown escapes Voke with the help of Paz, fighting through the Judge's army and confronting her Anger Aspect. Despite the aspect's power being fueled by her anger, the Unknown manages to exploit this weakness and kills the aspect, escaping Voke in the process. The Judge up in her throne oversees the event and calls upon the most powerful demons. Here she learns that a Cambion sworn that he had destroyed the skull, which is Paz, turned out to be a lie as Paz was found by the Unknown. Disappointed, the Judge disintegrates the Cambion into dust in front of all the demons.
In Stygia, the Judge's armies continue to fight the Unknown, but fail, and the Unknown reaches the Charged Aspect guarding the Hell. She manages to take down the second aspect despite its efforts, conquering Stygia. The Judge calls upon the scholars of Hell to her throne to see what they could learn about the Unknown, and see that the prophecy stated that the Hells will fall to a Hellsinger. The Judge asks the Hierophant if Yhelm's armies are ready, which it confirms, pleasing the Judge.
The Unknown moves on to Yhelm, the third Hell, where demons were waiting on them. Despite the introduction of elite demons, the Unknown still managed to push past them and reach the Fortress Aspect. After a battle, the aspect is defeated, marking the Judge's third defeat in a row. The Judge wasn't ready to fully take them seriously yet, but calls upon the Hierophants to conduct the Ritual of Spears to "bind the Unknown's spirit in perpetuity", sacrificing a Behemoth to do so, throwing spears at the Unknown through portals. However, the Unknown removes the spears and attempts to reach the Judge through the portals, shocking the Judge, who then closes the portal before the Unknown fully manifests through. After this, they had the Judge's full attention.
In Incaustis, the Judge relied on her armies to stop the Unknown as the Ritual of Spears had failed, but were turned to ash by the Unknown, who moves on to confront the Infernal Fury Aspect. Similarly to the Anger Aspect, it was easily angered but this weakness could be exploited, and the Unknown proceeded to exploit it, and defeated the fourth aspect. The Judge was beginning to become desperate to stop the Unknown as she had lost four times in a row, so she calls upon the forces of Heaven to assist her armies.
In Gehenna, Lesser Seraphs assist the demons in fighting the Unknown, but are taken out too, and the Unknown reaches the Hellstorm Aspect guarding Gehenna and defeats it. The Seraphs ask the Judge if she fears the prophecy, which she denies. She states that the Seraphs are lying to her but believes them anyway for the sake of the Hells. She subjects herself to Dissolution to tear apart space-time inside of Nihil to trap the Unknown inside.
With the Angels fighting alongside the demons in Nihil, they were still defeated despite the assistance of Dissolution. The Judge summons another aspect, known as the Doppelganger Aspect that summons recreations of the prior aspects. The clones were immune to damage but the Unknown quickly learned the properties of this aspect and defeated it. With the Judge losing hope and options, she informs the Seraphs that she will cast the Curse of Dispossession to take Paz away since the bond between him and the Unknown is too strong, despite it weakening her greatly. With Paz now in the Judge's possession, the Unknown is forced to traverse Acheron alone, but now has the strength and knowledge to open the Anguish Gates herself. The Judge reads Paz's memories and gives him to the Wheel Aspect guarding Acheron.
The Unknown destroys the Judge's army in Acheron and faces the Wheel Aspect holding Paz. It was the most dangerous aspect of all, but it was still taken down by the Unknown, and she reclaims Paz, who admits he told them everything. The Seraphs go to the Judge's throne to kill her for failing to stop the Unknown, only for the Judge to kill them first. She states that she now remembers she was once an archangel, and that Heaven send their foot soldiers down to Hell out of fear of the Unknown attacking them next, not to aid Hell. She states that Heaven has little faith in them and that they will prove the prophecy false on their own, and the Judge absorbs every soul in the Hells to become the massive Worldbreaker Aspect, waiting for the Unknown at the Temple of Law in Sheol.
The Unknown and Paz reach Sheol and defeat the remaining fragments of the Judge's army, entering the Temple of Law and encounter the Judge in her Worldbreaker form. After a long fight, the Unknown defeats the Worldbreaker Aspect and causes the Judge to shrink back to her normal form. With the Judge at the Unknown's mercy, she states that she only has part of her voice and that the rest is in the Heavens. Angered, the Unknown raises her sword to finish the Judge, but the Judge begs for a moment to explain who she was, stating that she was her protector, and that she stole the Unknown's voice knowing she would have to assault Heaven to get it back, and she now has enough to shatter the barrier between realms. As her last words, she tells the Unknown to give Heaven "Hell" when she gets there, and then perishes.
Trivia[]
- Despite the Judge only having eight aspects for eight Hells, there's actually more than a thousand Hells, although the majority are not seen in-game.
