“ | So, you guys like to tell jokes and giggle and kid around, huh? Gigglin' like a bunch of young broads in a schoolyard. Well, let me tell a joke. Five guys, sittin' in a bullpen, in San Quentin. Wondering how the f-ck they got there. "What did we do wrong? What shoulda we done? What didn't we do? It's your fault, my fault, his fault." All that bullsh-t. Finally someone comes up with the idea, "Wait a minute. While we were planning this caper, all we did was sit around tell f-ckin' jokes! Got the message? Fellas, I don't mean to holler at ya. When this caper's over - and I'm sure it's gonna be a successful one - hell, we'll get down to the Hawaiian Islands, I'll roll and laugh with all of you. You'll find me a different character down there. Right now, it's a matter of business. | „ |
~ Joe Cabot explaining the idea behind the crew members' code names. |
The Reservoir Dogs are the titular main protagonists in Quentin Tarantino's 1992 film, Reservoir Dogs. They are a group of thugs lead by gangland boss Joe Cabot, who partake in a jewelry store heist in Los Angeles, which goes horribly wrong, with all crew members facing the consequences, while trying to figure out who the rat amongst their crew is.
History[]
According Joe Cabot and his son, "Nice Guy" Eddie, they already know the names of all of the crew members of the Reservoir Dogs, and have a history with each member. The only crew members whose names are revealed in the film, are Mr. White (real name, Lawrence Dimmick), Mr. Blonde (real name, Victor Vega) and Mr. Orange (real name, Freddy Newendyke). The rest of the crew members go under the aliases, Mr. Pink, Mr. Brown and Mr. Blue. Just before the heist starts, the crew members think out their plan at one of Joe's Warehouses, where their code names are given to each of them.
The crew eventually start the next day by discussing various topics at a diner. Most of their conversations involve the Madonna song, "Like a Virgin", with the discussion being started out by Mr. Brown. After the group argue about Mr. Pink's grudge against tipping, the eight men carry out the robbery plan.
The entire robbery is seen off-screen, but some events are shown in flashbacks or are told from the characters' interactions. What is known about the robbery is that as soon as the robbery had started, the police immediately showed up, prompting Mr. Pink to realize their was an undercover police officer in their crew. It is also noted that as soon as the police arrived, Mr. Blonde started murdering the hostages. The members were split up during the robbery, with Mr. Pink retrieving the diamonds and escaping the police, Mr. Orange, Mr. White and Mr. Brown attempting the flee the police, with Brown getting killed and Orange getting shot in the stomach during the process, but successfully escaping with Mr. White. The events of what happen to Mr. Blonde and Mr. Blue during the robbery is unknown, what is known is that Mr. Blue was killed during his escape.
After the robbery, Mr. White and Mr. Orange enter the warehouse where they came up with the plan for the robbery, with Mr. Pink showing up to the warehouse shortly afterwards. While Mr. Orange bleeds out, still alive, Mr. Pink informs Mr. White about how one of them is an undercover cop. Soon after, the two start arguing and pull guns on each other, just before they almost murder each other, Mr. Blonde reveals himself, with the trio now agreeing that none of them are the rat.
Mr. Blonde soon reveals that he kidnapped a police officer named, Marvin Nash, who the trio soon beat in order for him to confess, where Nash denies any knowledge of an undercover cop. Soon after, Joe's son, "Nice Guy" Eddie returns to the warehouse, where he orders Pink and White to ditch the getaway vehicles and retrieve the diamonds from the robbery that Pink had stashed. Eddie leaves Mr. Blonde in charge of Nash and Mr. Orange. While Eddie is away, Mr. Blonde starts torturing Nash by cutting off his ear with a straight razor and just before Blonde murders Nash, Mr. Orange, still bleeding out, murders Blonde with his gun. Just after Mr. Blonde is killed, Nash and Mr. Orange discuss Orange being the undercover cop.
Soon after, Eddie, Mr. White and Mr. Pink return, with Mr. Orange convincing White and Pink that Blonde tried to murder him and Nash and take the diamonds for himself. However, Eddie denies this as Blonde was very loyal to Joe, with Eddie then murdering Nash. Joe soon arrives informing the remaining crew that Mr. Blue had been murdered during the end of the robbery. Joe agrees with Eddie that Mr. Orange is the police officer and plans to murder Orange, which creates a Mexican standoff, with Joe aiming his gun at Orange, White, who is still loyal to Orange, aiming his gun at Joe and Eddie aiming his gun at White.
After some time, Mr. White murders Joe and Eddie, with himself and Mr. Orange being both barely alive from being shot. Mr. White falls to the ground, cradling Mr. Orange, while Mr. Pink rushes out of the warehouse with the diamonds, but is arrested by the police off-screen. Mr. Orange finally confesses to Mr. White, him being an undercover cop, Mr. White holds back tears and presses his gun at Orange's head. The police enter the warehouse and order White to drop his gun, but instead White pulls the trigger, murdering Orange, with White then being shot down by the police.

Video Game[]
In 2006, a video game tie-in for the film was released, also titled, Reservoir Dogs, where the player controls every Reservoir Dogs member, excluding Joe Cabot. The video game follows the same events of the film, although the player has to play as each character during their escape after the robbery, which explains what happened to Mr. Blonde and Mr. Brown during the events of their escape, which was previously unstated in the film. Throughout the game, there are choices made by the player which can lead to three separate endings involving Mr. Pink, the only surviving Reservoir Dog. The three endings are; the "Psycho" ending, where Pink has a shootout with the police following the Mexican standoff, where is then killed, the "Career Criminal" ending, where Pink attempts to drive away with the diamonds but is arrested by the police (as he does in the film) and the "Professional" ending, where Pink hides under a car and escapes successfully, along with the diamonds.
Payday 2[]
Various characters in the film, are seen in the Reservoir Dogs Heist in the video game, Payday 2. In Day 1 of the heist (Garnet Group Boutique), Mr. Blonde, Mr. Pink and Mr. Brown, along with the Payday Gang, are seen in a store, the Garnet Group Boutique, attempting to meet up with some of Cabot's men. Soon after, Mr. Brown is shot from a sniper while crossing a window. Quickly after, the store is raided by the police, resulting in a shootout. In Day 2 (Highland Mortuary), Mr. Blonde is seen torturing a police officer who was seen in Blonde's trunk in Day 1 (most likely Nash), where then the police raid the warehouse, where Pink is then seen injured and bleeding out, where the Payday Gang must bring him to safety. Later, Blonde informs the gang of the stashed diamonds, which are then secured by the gang, with the latter then escaping.
