Jack, what kept you? Andy here's been getting nervous. I promised him you'd come. Gave him my word of honor he could watch you die. Lose the cannon.
~ Ripper to Jack

The Ripper is a sadistic serial killer and the secondary antagonist in the 1993 film Last Action Hero.

He was portrayed by Tom Noonan, who also played Francis Dolarhyde in Manhunter, and Cain in RoboCop 2.

The Ripper is the main villain in the film-within-the-film Jack Slater III, in which at the end of the climax of the movie he kidnaps and holds hostage a bunch of school children, one of them is the son of the hero Jack Slater. When Jack fires upon the Ripper, he falls from the rooftop where he is holding the children but pulls Slater's son off the roof with him and to their deaths. The incident continues to haunt Jack Slater for many years to come.

The main antagonist of Last Action Hero Mr. Benedict (one of the main villains of Jack Slater IV) resurrects The Ripper in the "real world" and hires him to murder Jack Slater's actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Ripper heads to the premier of Jack Slater IV and is close to killing Arnold, however is distracted by Jack Slater who is close to firing upon him. The Ripper retreats and kidnaps Jack's sidekick Danny, and mimicking the climax of Jack Slater III takes him to the rooftop for one final showdown. The Ripper is then electrocuted and killed.

  • Tom Noonan plays himself in the film during the premier. In an earlier scene The Ripper is mistaken for Noonam himself dressed up as the character.
