The scientist is a minor antagonist in Metroid Fusion. It is an X Parasite that attempts to destroy the Biologic Space Laboratories research station by overheating the main boiler of Sector 3.
Biography[]
When the scientist was killed during the X's infestation of the research station caused by the SA-X, a Core-X infected his body, using it as its host. The X acquired the memories and knowledge of the scientist and thus learned how to operate the main boiler of Sector 3, used as a heated environment for specimens from SR-388.
Shortly after Samus acquires the Ice Missiles from Sector 5, the scientist causes the main boiler's cooling unit to malfunction, threatening to wipe out the entire station as it would activate the auto-destruct explosives, killing itself and all other X to kill Samus. Initially speculating the act to be caused by the SA-X, ADAM sends Samus to Sector 3 to stop the hindrance, with six minutes to restore the boiler before it explodes.
Thanks to her recent acquisition of the Varia Suit, Samus is able to enter the lower area of Sector 3 without taking damage from the immense heat. Eventually, she reaches the main boiler room where the scientist is tempering with the control panel of the boiler. Should Samus run into the scientist or shoot him, the X will revert to its Core-X form. Defeating it recovers Samus' Wide Beam. The control panel is then unlocked, allowing Samus to reactivate the cooling systems, thus preventing the meltdown.

- Unused sprites of the scientist show that he was initially going to transform into a large yellow monster when provoked, resembling a Zabesian.
- Another unused sprite depicts the scientist pushed backwards after Samus fires a weapon at him.
