The Shinobi are major antagonists in the 2019 action film John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, the third installment in the John Wick franchise.
They are a pair of ninja assassins employed by the High Table and the top students of Zero.
They were portrayed by Cecep Arif Rahman and Yayan Ruhian. Both of them played Assassin and Mad Dog in The Raid duology.
Biography[]
When the High Table hired Zero to kill John Wick, Zero ordered to all his students to follow him. First they went to the Ruska Roma, both of them alongside all of the other Zero's students manage dispatch the Director's guards, then the Adjudicator orders Zero to stab her in the hands for helping John Wick to scape to Casablanca.
They then go to The Soup Kitchen, here the men of the Bowery King are easily killed, and the Adjudicator tells to the Bowery King that he must receive seven cuts for giving the seven bullets for John Wick that he used to kill Santino D'Antonio. The cuts are given by Zero and his katana.
They are last seen in The Continental, when Winston refused to step down as manager of the Continental and John defended him, Zero and the last surviving students are ordered to kill both of them. John kills a group of elite assassins of the High Table and two of Zero's students, then he finally engages in a fight with the Shinobi. John gets knocked down, but instead of being attacked, both warriors help him to get up and comment that they are fans of him and are excited to fight him. After a brutal fight, John finally defeats them, they are too tired to continue fighting and John spares them in gratitude for their honor.
Personalities[]
Of the legion of assassins and killers John has encountered throughout the series, The Shinobi and their master are notably the only ones who displayed any kind of honor towards him. Even after catching him off guard and having him dead to rights, both men then opted to help John back to his feet, complimenting his skills and showing they'd much rather kill John fair and square instead of via ambush. This ends up saving their lives, as John opts to spare them both, returning their honorable gesture in kind.
Trivia[]
- Cassian and the Shinobi are the only characters to fight John Wick on-screen and survive.
