The Smiling Dead are the main protagonists of the 2025 horror-comedy webseries, The Gaslight District. They are a crime family led by Ken the Butcher and one of the several gangs in the Gaslight District. Like the other inhabitants, they are undead beings granted eternal life by the Black Hand, allowing them to go on destructive murder sprees with little consequence.

- Ken the Butcher - The patriarch of the family, Mel and Breadhead's dad and Mud's younger brother. He is an intimidating butcher who own the Whale Belly Butchershop and is determined to keep Mel's secret from getting out and keep her from becoming a member of the Smiling Dead. He has a cleaver which he uses as his primary weapon, that is embedded in his head, which causes him to occasionally have personality shifts.
- Melancholy Hill - The only daughter in the family and the most chaotic. Unbeknownst to anyone other than Ken, is a human born from an egg, and is prophesied to destroy the remaining souls in the Gaslight District, a secret she wants to keep hidden due to the pushback she will receive. Against her father's wishes, she hopes to join the Smiling Dead in spite of her mortality.
- Mud - Ken's older brother. He is a sarcastic, trigger-happy but otherwise affable man who encourages Ken to let Mel be more independent. He is unaware that she is the fabled human. His face is permanently melting, and he is somewhat willing to betray Ken for his own aims, often seen pickpocketing from the latter's countertop.
- Breadhead - Ken's son, a giant golem made of bread who acts as the gang's muscle, capable of effortlessly destroying cars and mutilating Rotlings. He works at the Butchershop as a pianist. He is fairly simple and is 100% willing to follow Ken's orders.

Trivia[]
- They are the only inhabitants of the District to resemble zombies rather than square faced Rotlings. This is more than likely a stylistic choice.
- Seeing as the Smiling Dead's car winks at Jack during the car chase, it could be sapient and as such, an unofficial member of the gang.
