The Sun is a major character of the internet web series Solar Balls. He is a Major Antagonist in the web series, serving as the main antagonist of both What if the planets were ordered by SIZE arc, and The Solar System Trials arc. He is the Star at the Centre of the Solar System, that values if not the entire Solar System.
Biography[]
Past[]
The Big Bang - Part 1[]
After the Sun was formed, two other stars, Rigil Kentaurus and Toliman bully him while the Sun tears up and asks for help, Proxima Centauri appears and defends the young Sun. It wasn't until the red Giant, Arcturus glided in and warned everybody about a white supergiant star nearby going supernova. Which all the stars leave; except the young Sun, who says "Hello?" with the dying supergiant. The supergiant looked at the young Sun, and told him to go away. Before her face fades away, she started to convulse while the young Sun became worried. Then, the white supergiant exploded into a supernova as the Sun gazed at its blinding light. Soon enough, the Sun started screaming while being blasted and pushed by the Supernova.
The Big Bang - Part 2[]
While the Sun was alone during the early days of the Solar System, he attempted to reach out to another star The Star could not hear him and the Sun began moving closer accidentally destroying three forming planets that moved into the Roche Limit of the Sun and causing a collision. The Sun decides to stay put hoping one day he'll get to meet the other stars. After Jupiter and Saturn formed, the Sun hoped that the Solar System would remain stabilized as he tried to prevent planets from colliding with each other, forcing him to intervene and tell off planets not to get close to each other, such as when Jupiter tried to offer him help. Later on the Sun tells off Jupiter not to move out of his orbit, which resulted in Jupiter destroying four proto-planets, without the Sun watching.
The Big Bang - Part 3[]
Once the Sun notices the destruction of the Inner Planets, the Sun screams in horror and asks them what happened to the rocky planets and Jupiter lies (with the help of Saturn). Planet X gets mad and tries to go tell the Sun himself but Saturn intervenes and covers for him. Jupiter tries to go back into his orbit but the Sun tells him to stay where he is for fear of more instability and turns around. Following the Ejection of Planet X. Jupiter asks what they tell the Sun only to find the Sun staring at them and demands to know what they want to tell him. The Sun looks around for X and asks where he is to which Saturn replies he’s gone. Jupiter lies and says X left to explore other Solar Systems which sets the Sun off. He roars in frustration firing off a solar flare. He completely snaps and yells about how despite everything he’s done for his planets they still want to leave. Jupiter and Saturn look away in fear as the Sun yells to Planet X, “Good riddance Planet C. Just leave my Solar System! We don’t need you we have everything we need here!” The Sun and declares no one leaves their orbits or the Solar System and they all become friends and no more planets will crash or abandon the solar system.
Present[]
The Sun is introduced being curious to see an Earthling out in space, barging his way in front of Earth and Venus before screaming at the Astronaut.
What if the planets were ordered by SIZE? - Part 1[]
After the Sun was angered to see the Planets not being in their usual orbits, the Sun thought to teach them a lesson by rearranging their orbits based on their sizes. This move places Jupiter farthest from the Sun and pushes Earth out of the Goldilocks zone. Earth protests, fearing for his inhabitants, but the Sun insists they'll adapt. Only for the Earth to freeze in Mars's orbit. Meanwhile, Mars is preoccupied with worrying about Earth and confronts the Sun directly. Mars criticizes the Sun's arrangement of the planets, calling it clingy, triggering a villainous monologue and solar flares.
What if the planets were ordered by SIZE? - Part 2[]
The Sun continues with his rampage as he keeps firing his Solar flares in random directions, causing Mars and Mercury to flee the scene to gather the other planets. It wasn't until after the Planets gathered that the Sun realizes the Planets were gathering, thanks to Venus who opposed the idea of bringing the Solar System back to normal. Once Mercury and Earth persuade Venus that returning to their original orbits is crucial to avoid catastrophe, prompting him to reconsider, the Sun questions their desire to revert to their original orbits, in which Neptune explains that their old orbits offer balance and stability. The response from the Sun being that the ordeal was a lesson for the planets about the consequences of straying from their orbits. Finally, he lightens the mood with a joke, leading to awkward laughter from the planets.
Personality[]
The Sun in his current stage of life is shown to be very aggressive and tends to have extreme mood swings. He can also be a bit too strict towards the planets of the solar system, demanding them to obey his orders right away and aiming his solar flares at them. He also acts clingy (Especially towards the rocky planets, Mercury more so than the others) and isn’t afraid to defy others' opinions. However, he has shown to occasionally be kind and caring for his planets, especially Mercury, and believes that both of them are best friends. Initially, he used to aim all his solar flares at Mercury. But when he got fed up and tried to leave his orbit, Sun promised he would aim his solar flares at someone else, like Venus, as long as everything went back to normal. He enjoys telling puns, despite the complaints from his planets. He also knows how much Earth cares about his Earthlings and tries to stop Earth from heading on a collision course.
His childhood trauma resulted in severe attachment issues and severe mood swings shown throughout the web series. The Sun shows symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder such as fear of abandonment, unstable relationships, emotional instability, extreme emotional mood swings, and explosive anger.
Trivia[]
- As a baby, the Sun seems to have a blush in his cheeks.
