Students, Lightning will be our unwilling subject! Ha! Ha! We have four lessons for today! First is the death of Lightning! The electronic poles to which he is fastened will take the full force of electricity in him, magnify it a thousand times, and blast it back into his body, with a force sufficient to destroy anything... even Lightning! Lesson No. Two! Destruction of the American fleet! The fleet sails today to contact a Japanese formation, and into this trap, planned by the Teacher! Lesson No. Three! Destruction of the American army at the Dutch Harbor, led by myself, the Fifth Columnist, descended behind outnumbered American troops, wiping them out! Lesson No. Four! Placing of blame. Commander Blake and his daughter shall be found here and be blamed for it! Now throw the switch!
~ The Teacher's master plan, right before attempting to kill Lightning.
You will sail on the "Keokuk" next Wednesday. So, your navy is sending a special investigator! I'll arrange a warm welcome for him!
~ The Teacher to John Blake, after hearing Lash Lightning is getting involved in his plans.

The Teacher is a major antagonist of the Lash Lightning series, being the titular main antagonist of Lighting Comics' Vol 3. #1's "The Teacher and the Lesson of Doom".

He is a free-lance mercenary, expert of espionage, and overall master killer for the highest bidder who, as his name suggest, puts up a school-themed gimmick and runs "The Classroom". He sold his services to the Japanese Imperialists to wipe out the American army and fleet stationed at Dutch Harbor so the Japanese along with the Axis Powers win the war. He is also the one villain who almost succeeded in killing Lash Lightning, by using a machine that used the hero's power against him.

To do so, he brainwashes two military officers, the Blake Brothers, in helping him make his plans come to fruition. As such, he became the archenemy of Isobel Blake, who would become Lash Lightning's partner turn lover Lightning Girl.

Biography[]

The Teacher was an infamous mercenary who was an expert in espionage and a master class killer who hired himself for the highest bidder. He would begin working for the Japanese during World War II and begin to formulate a plan to defeat the US military at Dutch Harbor. To this end, he captures the Blake Brothers, Captain John and Colonel Adam, putting them through intense electric shock to know them out, bringing them to his "Classroom" to put them under electric hypnotism. After brainwashing the two, he has them betray their country, he has Adam to assassinate Admiral Wahl to keep the commanders of the Army and Navy from entering the Harbor even if it will cost John's life. The assassination failed and Adam was killed, but he succeeded in stalling them allowing the Japanese to attack and critically damaging the fleet.

Because of this, the military recruited Lash Lightning to investigate the matter, believing Adam to be part of a Fifth Column. The Teacher watches them, and plans to set up a trap for the hero, by sending a Japanese fleet of fighter jets to attack the "Keokuk" ship. The Japanese planes are disguised as American ones and begin their assault with intent to kill everyone at the ship but were held back by Lash Lightning with the help of Isobel Blake, Adam's daughter and John's niece. Enrage at his plan having failed, he plots to lure Lash and Isobel in a trap, utilizing a weapon that will kill Lightning via using his own powers against him. He and his cronies ambushed the two, knocking Lash out and bringing both of them to his lair, the Classroom, where they tied Lash to a machine that the Teacher has created. He explains his master plan to wipe out both the army and fleet stationed in Dutch Harbor, in an invasion that will be led by him. The fleet will be meet by a trap by the Japanese Formation, while the army will be outnumbered and slaughtered by Fifth Columnists led by the Teacher. Lastly, he will use the Blakes, including Isobel, as scapegoats and will be blamed for the mass slaughter of thousands. He also plans to have Lightning killed in the most gruesome way: using his electrical powers against him, harnessing the full force of his power in his body and magnify it a thousand times, then blast it back into his body with the full force enough to destroy anything. He begins the machine, while Isobel does nothing but watch as Lightning will be killed, with enough electricity to destroy a battleship and began searing all tissues within Lash's body. It destroyed the electrical tube, Lash falls to the ground, with Teacher leaving to start his plan believing he has won.

Lash survives, albeit barely, slowly and painfully regaining conscious but his body is still wrecked from the blast. He gives Isobel some of his powers so she may warn the army of the oncoming invasion, thus giving birth to Lightning Girl. He also breaks the brainwashing hypnotism off of Adam and has him sent to the army to warn them, he was nearly shot but succeeded in warning them. Thus, the military was prepared for the Teacher's invasion, but the army repelled back against his forces, but the Teacher did not want to go empty handed and thus he personally killed John out of spite for his defeat. The army repelled against the Japanese forces, but it is unknown what happened to the Teacher, though it is to be believed he fled the battle as he vowed, he will return to exact his revenge.

Personality[]

The Teacher, as his name suggest, fancies himself as a mad scientist who runs his business like a school, addressing his minions or brainwashed pawns as his "students", and uses his intellect to come up with strategies for the Japanese to utilize in the war. He hires himself to the highest bidder, willing to work with the Axis if needed be. He is utterly ruthless and sadistic, willing to take whatever immoral actions, or underhanded tactics to achieve total victory. He brainwashes his opponents to become unwilling pawns, have them betray their country and take the blame for his evil actions. He also is willing to have Lightning brutally murdered using his own powers against him, which caused the hero pain so immense it nearly killed him, all while forcing Isobel to watch as he did so. Even at the moment of defeat, he spitefully killed John Blake in retaliation for his loss, deciding he will not be going down without taking a life. He is a cunning, and brilliant genius who is capable of creating advanced weapons and devices, such as ones that can brainwash people and others capable of countering the destructive powers of powerhouses like Lash Lightning.

Trivia[]

  • Despite only appearing in one issue, he is ironically one of the most important characters in the whole series, being the most personal foe Isobel Blake have faced. As he is the very reason she became Lightning Girl in the first place, after brainwashing her uncle and father in betraying their country and getting both of them killed, even nearly killing Lash Lightning (getting much closer than anyone else in the story), forcing the main hero to give her some of his powers thus creating Lighting Girl.
  • Despite claiming he will return to continue his evil plans, never once has the Teacher made a return, it is to be believed he either perished or was captured during the invasion. It is likely he was intended to return before the series ended, but it cannot be certain.
