“ | The fear of dark, which appears in many forms. | „ |
~ The Sanctuary Titan's "Check" description. |
“ | When the LIGHT is subsumed by SHADOW, when the FOUNTAINS fill the sky, all will fall into CHAOS. The TITANS will take form from the FOUNTAINS and envelop the land in devastation. The surviving Darkners, crushed by the darkness, will slowly, one by one, turn into statues... leaving the Lightners to fend for themselves. Lost eternally in an endless night... is that your idea of paradise? | „ |
~ Ralsei describing the Roaring, convincing Berdly to stop his plan to make a Dark Fountain. |
The Titans are the overarching antagonists of the 2018 indie RPG Deltarune.
The fear of the dark manifest, they are a species of primordial dark beings that take shape from Dark Fountains when their power grows too strong to contain, and are prophesied to lay waste upon both the Light and Dark Worlds in an event prophesied as The Roaring. For whatever reason, the Knight seeks to summon them.
Appearance[]
The Titans seem to come in a variety of shapes and figures, as shown in the forewarning seen in Chapter 2. In common, they are shadowy, faceless entities comprised entirely of darkness with sets of horns protruding from their heads. A four-pointed star-shaped object can be found in front of their face, acting as an "outer shell" of sorts. They are, at the very least, depicted as vaguely humanoid. Specks of concentrated shadow seem to flake off their bodies.
The one encountered in Chapter 4 is a massive, its head alone taking up around 80% of the screen. It starts encased in the recursive Dark Fountain before it hardens, seemingly acting as a sort of "egg" of sorts, one which it quickly breaks out of at the climax of the chapter. Multiple white wings protrude from its back. Its hands have white claws, with three eyes appearing in the creases of its palms, and what appear to be more eyes appearing on the joints of its fingers. A diamond-shaped outer shell can be seen in front of its face, glowing a brilliant white, and can be shattered to reveal nothing more than a giant hole that acts as their "true face", capable of blasting balls of pure darkness. Near its neck are another set of eyes, and wisp-like horns protrude from its head, its left one being far bigger than the right.
One Titan shown in Chapter 2's prophecy is a gargantuan beast, towering over the Earth. Two sets of small horns can be found on its head, and two pairs of spikes are found on its shoulders. Within its darkened mass, three eyes can be seen on its stomach region. Behind its star-shaped mask is a giant dripping circle, seemingly representing a hole.
Two other Titans shown are spindly beasts, vaguely skeletal in design. Their limbs are thin, and their shoulders have massive spikes protruding from them. Compared to the central Titan shown in the prophecy's depiction,
Personality[]
“ | But, it was not something that can understand MERCY. | „ |
~ The message when trying to spare the Sanctuary Titan. |
According to Ralsei, the Titans are beings made when there are too many Dark Fountains and do not have any consciousness whatsoever, with the only purpose they serve being to destroy everything they see. As demonstrated by the Sanctuary Titan, it's impossible for one to be spared, with the text displayed when attempting to do so clarifying that it doesn't understand what mercy is.
Biography[]
Chapter 1: The Beginning[]
Though not directly mentioned in Chapter 1, the presence of the Titans is still alluded to in the Legend of Delta Rune, with Ralsei stating that a great tragedy will occur, and that three heroes must "banish the Angel's Heaven" by sealing away any other Dark Fountains.
If defeated using violence, Jevil makes a reference to the Roaring, stating that the "Queen" will soon rise and Hell's bubbles will follow suit, asking Kris, Susie, and Ralsei if they can stop this from happening.
Chapter 2: A Cyber's World[]
The Titans make their first physical appearance in Chapter 2. Prior to the flashback, Berdly mentions his plans to create another Dark Fountain after Queen's defeat. Ralsei is understandably horrified of this, and explains to him that the Titans will wreak havoc upon the land. As the Dark Fountains glow brightly in the world, the Titans will slowly turn every Darkner to stone and cover the Light World in darkness, leaving any living Lightners to fend for themselves in eternal shadow. Both Queen and Berdly are shaken up about this, as Berdly didn't knew he would cause a world-ending chaos and Queen didn't knew about any of this until now.
Chapter 4: Prophecy[]
The Roaring Knight successfully creates the first Titan seen in the game by creating a powerful fountain that causes the flow of darkness to go wild. It immediately starts spawning offspring and attacking the Lightners, forcing them to latch onto its body as it won't attack itself and eventually fighting it head on. When it starts concealing itself in its wings to regenerate, the Lightners are assisted by an empowered Gerson who destroys its defenses, allowing Kris and Susie to finally able to kill it by sealing the Fountain inside of its body.
Quotes[]
“ | SOON, THE "QUEEN" RETURNS, AND HELL'S ROAR BUBBLES FROM THE DEPTHS... LIGHTNERS, CAN YOU STOP IT? | „ |
~ Jevil alluding to the Roaring after being defeated by the Fun Gang by violence. |
“ | A WORLD BASKED IN PUREST LIGHT. BENEATH IT, GREW ETERNAL NIGHT. THE LIGHT AND DARK, BOTH BURNING DIRE. A COUNTDOWN TO THE EARTH'S EXPIRE. IF FOUNTAINS FREED, THE ROARING CRIES. AND TITANS SHAPE FROM DARKENED EYES. | „ |
~ The true prophecy, in regards to the two worlds, the Roaring, and the Titans. |
“ | When the Fountain's power becomes too strong... When the flow of darkness runs wild... It makes... that. A Titan. It's the fear-of-dark. It's the bump-in-the-night. It's the shadow of the backside of your mind. It has no consciousness. It only exists to destroy. | „ |

Trivia[]
- In the flashback, the foremost Titan has eye markings similar to the ones found engraved on the walls of ?????, a secret area found in Chapter 1.
- Interestingly, despite Queen claiming to not know of the Roaring's cataclysmic effects, she still refers to the Knight as "The Roaring Knight" when approached after freeing Berdly from his brainwashing, despite that taking place before finding out about what the Roaring was. It is possible that the Knight merely calls itself this, but this directly contradicts the fact Queen seemingly never met them in person and is only guessing after seeing what it's done. Chapter 3 would later go on to reveal that the Knight horrifyingly roars however, which mat explain how she knew this moniker.
- It was unknown whether the Titans already exist in an inactive state or if they would be created as a result of the Roaring itself. The prophecy mention of them taking form from the Fountains could mean the Titans will be created from the Fountains or are the Fountains themselves taken form. Chapter 4 later confirms that Titans are created from Fountains.
