The Transmission is the overarching antagonist of the 2021 puzzle-platform horror adventure video game Little Nightmares II.

It is a living entity inside the Signal Tower, that spreads its power to brainwash the residents of the Pale City through television screens. Taking the physical form of a signal-emitting tower, it is responsible for the warped and dilapidated state of the Pale City. It is unknown how far the reality-warping signal reaches, but many of the world's Residents have fallen victim of the signal. Mono feels mysteriously drawn to the tower throughout the game, bringing Six with him until her inevitable betrayal, where he is left in the depths of the tower to become the new Thin Man, who the latter helped it.

Characteristics[]

Unlike a traditional character antagonist, the Transmission is portrayed as a mysterious cosmic horror-like entity that is responsible for many of the Residents encountered in the second game.

Even though the Transmission is not directly a character, its abilities are what ultimately lead to the heinous acts committed by the many Residents under its control.

The Transmission still has many connections to characters, particularly Mono and the Thin Man. Its origin is unknown, but it can be implied that the Thin Man is being used as a form of "host" for the Signal Tower and that it is the sole reason for Mono's existence, whom has the Signal Tower's powers for unknown reason.

Mono as The Thin Man

This also leads to where Mono is inevitably betrayed by Six in a never-ending time loop. Each cycle, Six gets captured, her soul removed by the Thin Man, and gets discovered in the Signal Tower by Mono after he defeats the Thin Man. She betrays Mono after these events, who grows up to become the new Thin Man and physical host of the Transmission's powers.

Appearance[]

The Transmission takes the form of a building similar to a skyscraper that towers far beyond the other structures of the Pale City. Atop of the building is where the signal resides, emitting hypnotising rays that are what cause the mutations in the many Residents.

The Transmission can be more defined as the overall corruption itself, rather than the physical manifestation that is the Signal Tower,

Background[]

Not much is known about the Transmission other than that it warped the Pale City and possibly beyond into supernatural horrors. Some ideas can be implied by the fact that the Thin Man shares its strange powers, suggesting he owns the tower. However, this is disputed by the fact that the Transmission remains even after the Thin Man is defeated and that Mono also shares these abilities.

As stated earlier, this could suggest that Mono (who becomes the Thin Man in each cycle) exists as a form of physical host for the Transmission to use for its many acts as it continues its endless corruption.

Another possibility is that the Thin Man and the Transmission are both dependent on each other, where they both share the same abilities and only exist while the other does as well. With Mono essentially being the younger Thin Man, he still contains the same powers and abilities after defeating the Thin Man in a present cycle and will later inevitable become a Thin Man who still has such abilities. This mean a version of the Thin Man must always exist as long as the cycle continues.
