The Unknown Thief, also called "The Thief", was a major antagonist in Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, though later revealed to be Angela Cross, she was thought to be a male at the time and will be referred to as such here.
The Thief stole the Protopet so that he could launch it into space to destroy it. He also built a robotic army and hired Thugs-4-Less to aid him against Megacorp.
Ratchet travelled to the Thief's base and defeated him, but he later shows up again and reveals that he is Angela Cross, a female Lombax who then aids Ratchet by showing him that he was working for the real villains all along.
Biography[]
Before the events of Going Commando, Captain Qwark kidnaps the CEO of Megacorp, Abercrombie Fizzwidget and assumes his appearance to ensure that the protopet project would be released with a catastrophic flaw that would turn them into aggressive monsters. One of the employees working on the protopet assumes the identity of the thief and steals the original protopet from Megacorp's labs to prevent its release. "Fizzwidget" recruits Ratchet and Clank to retrieve the protopet experiment back from the Thief, and Ratchet infiltrates his flying lab on Aranos. He ambushes Ratchet when he tries to take it back and escapes, leaving his security robots to deal with him, but he defeats them and continues to pursue the Thief. He contacts Thugs-4-Less, a paramilitary organization, to assist him in keeping the experiment secure. On Planet Oozla, he visits and robs a Megacorp store, stealing a map and assaulting the employee running the counter. On Planet Endako, he kidnaps Clank at his apartment, and uses him to threaten Ratchet by torturing Clank via electroshock, warning Ratchet will meet the same fate if he continues his pursuit. Ratchet rescues Clank, and they trace the Thug Leader to a rendezvous point, and later intercept a call between him and the Thief, which reveals his location on Planet Notak.
When Ratchet and Clank arrive on Notak, they witness the Thief is already leaving, and investigate for clues on his next destination. They learn that he was there to secure supplies of chemicals (presumably to destroy the experiment), which revealed his location on Planet Siberius. There, he is confronted and puts up a fight, but is defeated by Ratchet who seizes the experiment. They inform "Fizzwidget", who arranges to meet on Planet Tabora to give to him. After the Thief tracks the location of the duo, he demands them to hand over the experiment, but trips up. The Thief is in fact revealed to be a female Lombax, and later explains the reasons for her motives.
