The Unravelled is a minor antagonist in Hollow Knight: Silksong. It is a mass of silk possessed by the countless wills of bugs that did not survive the Citadel Caste's torturous silk infusion experiments and were, as a result, discarded into a pit. The Unravelled now haunts Whiteward and attacks anything that ventures into its domain.
Appearance[]
The Unravelled is a wide entity composed of silk. Its "head" is a golden helmet that drapes a long garb of silk.
Biography[]
In the Whiteward of the Citadel, the ill bugs were taken to an infirmary where they were assumed to be cured. In actuality, the physicians conducted experiments on the bugs, seeking to insert silk into their shells to grant them immortality. Many bugs would not survive this procedure and were as such, either cremated or thrown into a pit. The vengeful spirits in the pit corpses would gradually coalesce into the Unravelled. Seeing as the Unravelled's "head" looks like the helmet of a Conductor, it's likely that one of its components is Conductor Mizello, whose tortured cries are heard during a surgical procedure recorded on a Psalm Cylinder, which itself is found after defeating the Unravelled. This heavily implies that Mizello didn't survive the procedure of silk insertion and had their corpse dumped into the pit as the main component of the Unravelled.
Hornet can encounter the Unravelled in the Whiteward, blocked behind a sluice that requires the Surgeon's Key to open, which can be looted from a corpse hidden in a chamber to the north right. Upon entering the sluice, Hornet falls into a room covered in silk. From the pile comes a small wave of Dreg Husks and Dregwheels. Once they have been fallen, the Unravelled comes to life and attacks Hornet, intending on draining her of her silk.
The Unravelled attacks by charging across the room, which requires pogoing off the helmet or doing a double jump with the Faydown Cloak due to its large size. It can also shoot out two to three Dregs from its "mouth" as projectiles. Occasionally, it will sink into the ground and summon a series of spears that emerge from the ground, before flying upwards and sinking back into the ground.
Once the Unravelled goes down, it drops a Silk Heart.
