Vigert Ebeneezer Lantte, better known as The Vigilante, is a major antagonist in the 2023 video game Pizza Tower. He is a gun-toting Cheeseslime attempting to bring Peppino to justice, or so he thinks.

Appearance[]

The Vigilante is a Cheeseslime that wears a traditional cowboy hat and brown gloves. He also wears brown cowboy boots, as seen when dive-kicking. In his VS Battle portrait he is much lumpier, his eyes are shadowed over and he has guns and other gear sticking out of him along with a belt.

Personality[]

The Vigilante can be described as a calm, level headed, and stoic individual, with a personal sense of duty and upholding justice. He's also a very honorable individual as he purposefully gave Peppino a revolver in order to give him a fair fighting chance against him. Unlike the other bosses, the Vigilante harbors no ill will towards Peppino; he's simply doing his job to uphold the law.

Biography[]

The Vigilante is the owner of the Fun Farm, one of the levels that Peppino visits during his raid of the Pizza Tower. At some point he finds Peppino's face on a wanted poster, prompting him to seek out the pizza chef.

When Peppino enters his boss gate the Vigilante calls him out, tossing him a revolver. This is a pistol duel, and the revolver is the only way that Peppino can damage him. He starts with 9 points of health, and it takes eight shots to deal one point of damage to him. He attacks by firing cheesy bullets from his revolver or dive kicking, gradually adding more weapons to his arsenal such as dynamite sticks, an Uzi, a bazooka, and a flamethrower. He can also defend himself by dropping shooting targets in his arena.

After his first 9 points of health are depleted he will regenerate them once and the sun will begin to set, lowering visibility and making it harder to see his movements. When his last 9 health points are gone he will challenge Peppino to a classic western showdown. The Vigilante is defeated when Peppino beats him to the draw.

After this encounter the Vigilante can be seen multiple times in the hub world: once in Noisette's Cafe, and again in Staff Only. He cannot be interacted with, and will ignore Peppino if he approaches.

During the final battle with Pizzaface, he is summoned to the fight along with the other three bosses of the tower. After Pepperman is defeated the Vigilante will jump in, but his rematch plays out differently since Peppino lacks a revolver at this point. Instead Gustavo will jump in to assist Peppino, letting the chef use him as a projectile to stun the cheeseslime before beating him down.

As the tower is crumbling, the Vigilante will join Peppino during the escape along with the other bosses. In the epilogue, he is the only one who doesn't bear a grudge against Peppino despite the angry chef beating him senseless. He will also find a wanted poster with Pizzaface on it, and he realizes that Pizzaface had tricked him into pursuing Peppino. It seems that he and Peppino are on better terms afterward, and that the Vigilante is now coaching the Toppins' on self defense techniques so that they won't be captured by villains such as Pizzahead again.

Trivia[]

  • While currently unplayable, the Vigilante was previously playable in demos of Pizza Tower.
  • The Vigilante seems to be a good friend of Noisette, the Noise's girlfriend as depicted in the sketches.
    • He is a regular customer at her cafe and seems to think her finger skateboard skills are impressive.
    • He also seems willing to try her new recipes such as peanut butter spaghetti, although it gives him a stomachache afterwards.
  • The Vigilante is based off Meta Knight.
    • His behavior of not attacking until the player picks up the provided weapon resembles Meta Knight's boss fights in most Kirby games, and his final move of a western standoff resembles the famous mini-game Quick Draw from Kirby Super Star (also reappearing in Super Star Ultra and Return to Dreamland Deluxe).
  • His boss battle is a homage to the Mega Man series, as they have to shoot each other to win the battle, much like when Mega Man battles the Robot Masters in the series.
  • The Vigilante's title is a contraction of his full name, Vigert Ebeneezer Lantte.
