~ The Vizier |
The Vizier, also known as The Villain, is a minor antagonist in Popeye the Sailor Man, only appearing as the main antagonist in the episode "Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp". He is a depiction of The Sorcerer from the famous folk tale, Aladdin. Like his archetype, The Vizier is a sinister little man, who wants to steal the magic lamp so that he can become the prince of the kingdom. He does not actually exist, as he's merely a character within the fictional story, written by Olive.
He is voiced by Carl Meyer.
Personality[]
The Vizier is a nasty and menacing man with an insatiable thirst for immaterial riches, who uses dirty tricks and snide ploys to get what he wants. His desire is to feed his power hunger by becoming the prince of his great Arabian Kingdom and in spite of knowing that a man such as himself doesn't deserve such an honor, he shamelessly infringes every order and hoodwinks every victim he can by means of possessing such a high power.
Appearance[]
The Vizier is a creepy Arabian man, with a ricketty bony body and a facial structure that just screams villainy. His eyes and nose are all crooked and crinkled and he only has three teeth. He has furrowed black eyebrows and a curled black beard. He wears a dark green turban with a black band on it with a red circle on it, a long, flowing black cloak that's bright red on the underside, a lavender long-sleeved shirt, a bright pink waistband, dark green bellbottoms, black socks, and pointy brown shoes.
Biography[]
In "Aladdin's Wonderful Lamp", The Vizier watched from his high tower, as the Princess is paraded through town. The Vizier planned on illegitimately marrying the Princess so that he could become the prince and obtain all of the fancy riches of the kingdom but he needed a plan. The Vizier looked through a book of all the citizens in the kingdom and spotted a description of a man named Aladdin, who was notorious for his impeccable strength. The Vizier went to Aladdin's house and posed as a messenger of The Princess, claiming that The Princess required a magic lamp from the caves below and took her to the cave. Aladdin was the only man strong enough to lift the rock and enter the cave and he did just that and retrieved the lamp. The Vizier took it and immediately knocked Popeye out with a club, revealing that he actually tricked him. The Vizier threw Popeye's unconscious body down into the cave and then started an avalanche to trap him inside. The Vizier celebrated his victory but then stepped on his discarded club, which swung up like a rake and knocked the lamp out of his hands. The lamp slipped through a tiny hole in the pile of rocks, made by the avalanche and fell into the cave where Popeye was trapped. Just then, a boulder that was too heavy for The Vizier to lift landed on the hole and trapped it in the cave. The Vizier completely freaked out and tried desperately to lift the rock only to inevitably fail. The Vizier threw a childish temper tantrum and eventually wore himself out and gave up and left.
