~ Warden forcing Peter and his friends to stay in jail. |
The Warden is the overarching antagonist of Family Guy episode "Cool Hand Peter". He is the corrupt and cruel prison warden of the Dungaree County Work Camp in Georgia who turns his prisoners into slaves.
He was voiced by Bob Gunton, who also played Gil Himes in Law & Order, Samuel Norton in The Shawshank Redemption, Leland Owlsley in Daredevil and Lawrence Hendricks, Sr. in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Personality[]
The Warden is a sadistic, unscrupulous, heartless, and cruel southern prison warden. He enjoys making his prisoners as miserable as possible, even subjecting them to literal slavery. For no reason whatsoever, he frequently extends prison sentences for his own amusement, likely so he can continue enslaving and torturing his prisoners for their entire lives.
Biography[]
The Warden presumably grew up in Dungaree County, Georgia. He has been the head of the Work Camp for at least 45 years, as a prisoner tells Peter and his friends that is how long he has been imprisoned.
When Sheriff Nichols arrests Peter Griffin, Glenn Quagmire, Joe Swanson and Cleveland Brown, he takes the opportunity to imprison them as well, after they get an unfair trial where the Simpsons are the jury. He informs a group of new prisoners how miserable the rest of their lives will be. When Peter makes a joke, he has Cleveland beaten by a night stick with another guard for Peter's behavior. Later, he sadistically informs the group that he has extended their imprisonment for 30 more days, without even getting court approval. The four then learn from another inmate that this was only their first extension and that the warden plans to keep them in jail forever like everyone else.
Later, Peter and his group manage to escape while Sheriff Nichols leads a group to try to catch them. This results in a failure for the Sheriff as he ends up leaving his country and being humiliated by Joe. It is unclear what happened with the Warden or if his labor camps ever closed down. Though it is possible Joe had exposed his cruel management and was promptly arrested.
Trivia[]
- The Warden is a parody of Samuel Norton of The Shawshank Redemption, even sharing his actor.
