| ~ One of the White Martian's victims serving as mouthpiece for it to talk to John Johnes and the Martian. |
The White Martian is one of the main antagonists of the DC Comics Absolute Universe, serving as the main antagonist of the Absolute Martian Manhunter comic series.
It is a metaphysical entity made of thoughts that wishes to spread hate and alienation across human beings through possessions and mind contorl, and is implied to have done this to other species and worlds as well. As it starts to terrorize the city of Middleton, it gets into conflict against John Johnes, an FBI agent, and the Martian, a being similar to itself that bonded with the agent.
It is also revealed to be the physical personification of the Anti-Life Equation, and thus, an extension of Darkseid's, the creator of the Absolute Universe, will.
Personality[]
The White Martian is a fundamentally eldritch being, whose thoughts and mind cannot be explained in human terms in whole. It does, however, demonstrates lots of characteristics that paint it as a sadistic, violence craving entity that is hell bet on destroying civilizations for its own amusement. As the Martian explains, it "decided on tragedy", and its messages to it and John Johnes make clear it enjoys its actions and enjoys their interference even more, for it "loves an audience".
Biography[]
The White Martian arrives on Earth, Middleton, at a similar time as the Martian. Its first action is to manipulate a paranoid conspiracy theorist named Trigger Taylor into acting violently on his theories that "99% of humanity" being actually aliens in disguise. The man first kills his own parents, before going to commit a killing spree in an immigrant neighbourhood. As John Johnes and the Martian intercept and attempt to stop him, the Martian invades the man's mind and find out he was being influenced by the White Martian, though it has no chance to act on its discovery as Taylor is killed by a police officer, with his thoughts quickly fading out.
The White Martian continues its plans as it makes 24 random people burn one homeless person alive each, with the arsonists being mostly horrified with their crimes with a few exceptions. As they further investigate, John and the Martian find that the White Martian has expanded into a cloud, influencing the thoughts of dozens of people across the town with the order being to burn down the very concept of "home", with most burning their houses, but other variations including a couple children burning down a playground.
Though unable to contain all arsons, John and the Martian move to save several people of a burning down building, though its last inhabitant walked out of the fire, kept alive by the White Martian, as it conveys a message to the duo in its place, about how it loves their interference, described as having an "audience" for its actions.
The next day, the White Martian causes a mass heat wave in the city, with the very sun rays and heat being flooded with its presence, making several people across Middleton start to lose their cool and commit violent actions for weak motives. Religious disagreements, racial wars and even shootouts over accidentally spilled coffe happen all over the city, as the Martian attempts to contain the sun rays and John finds himself impotent against the threat. As part of its master plan, the White Martian ends the heatwave with a trio of suicide bombers going to Middleton's energy reactors during sunset, exploding them and plunging the city in darkness. In the dark, most people, still indirectly affected by the White Martian's sunrays, act on their darkest impulses. Riots, food poisoning and home invasions happen, as a multitude of people, more than just influenced, become outright possessed by the alien. Using the body of a dog killer, the White Martian invades John Johnes' house, while simutaneously observing his near demise as a mad scientist attempts to cut him up, accompained by an assitant possesed by the White Martian.
The Dog Killer attempts to kill Bridget and Tyler Johnes, but Bridget shoots him in the face. The White Martian, called by the man as "bob", stops him from dying and he keeps attempting to kill the mother and son. However, John and the Martian teleport through the White Martian itself and fight it and its host while Bridget goes to safety. While John Johnes and Bridget fight off the Dog Killer and multiple other White Martian possessed people, the Martian fights the evil alien itself. Their fight is mostly "metaphorical", with them fighiting using ideas, concepts. The White Martian attempts to flood the city with cancer using the bad thoughts of a cancer patient, but the Martian counters it with the dream of finding a cure for cancer a little girl has. The White Martian uses fear of nuclear war to evoke a nuclear bomb, but the Martian counters it with the belief in military incompetence, preventing the bomb from going off. Utimately, the White Martian holds the Martian down, but the heroic alien delivers the final blow by striking the White Martian's head with the shape of the crescent moon.
While seemingly defeated, the White Martian is revealed to still be around, for now bonding with Tyler Johnes, John's son, in a similar way the Green Martian bonded with John himself.
