The Witch, otherwise nicknamed Witch Satoko, is an alternative form of Satoko Hojo who is the witch half created due to her repeated traversing through loops. She becomes the main antagonist of the sequel series Higurashi: When They Cry - Sotsu when her human half was beginning to feel remorse for her actions.
Personality[]
As a result of being completely separated from the "human" Satoko, the witch is bereft of human emotions with her cold determination of breaking Rika being her driving force. Because of this, she is incapable of being reasoned with as evidenced by her dismissing her human side as weaker and killing her own uncle (who had turned over a new leaf in this loop) without a hint of remorse.
Biography[]
Sometime during episode 8 when the real Satoko was faking her psychological breakdown, her witch self is created and is implied to have begun fighting Satoko over control for her body much to Eua's amusement. Unbeknownst to the young girl, Eua was actually manipulating her the entire time so she could create a witch for unknown reasons. From there, Satoko was in an internal struggle now that she began to realize that she had made a poor error of judgment and no longer wished for anyone else to die. While her witch half represented her ruthless drive, she lacked the emotions of the real Satoko appearing to be nothing more than a pure sociopathic force of malevolence.
After the outcome of Keiichi and his friends attempting to convince the CWS to do something about Satoko's apparent abuse at the hands of her uncle, the witch, displeased at the turn of events, decides to end the loop despite everything seemingly working out in Satoko's favor. When Teppei woke up from his alcohol-induced sleep, he horrifically sees his niece holding a gun to his forehead.
Just before the trigger could be activated, the real Satoko internally struggles with the witch desperately trying to get the gun from her hands. When that did not work, Satoko attempts to flee but is stopped by Eua who reveals her true colors to her pawn.
Concluding that she would not allow her emotions to bend her will, the witch "shoots" her human half and kills Teppei. Dragging his body, she brutally smashes the body until his blood leaked on the floor and she was drenched in the red liquid. So, in a revelation, Satoko's uncle was already dead by the time Keiichi came to pick her up for the Cotton-Drifting Festival.
