Lawrence Talbot, also known as the Wolfman, is the titular main protagonist of The Wolfman, the 2010 remake of the 1941 film of the same name. He is based on his original incarnation of the same name.
He was portrayed by Benicio del Toro, who also played Jack Rafferty in Sin City, DJ in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Collector in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Dr. Gonzo in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Dario in License To Kill. As a child, he was portrayed by Mario Marin-Borquez.
Personality[]
Unlike Sir John Talbot, Lawrence seems to have at least some measure of control over his murderous instincts even when fully transformed. When he transforms in the asylum, for instance, he makes a beeline right for Honneger, who had been torturing him extensively: the other doctors who get in his way are unceremoniously, but harmlessly shoved aside. He attacks the orderly only after said orderly stabs him in the back with a syringe.
In two later occasions he manages to calm down enough to stand quietly with humans right in front of him: once with Gwen, and once in a deleted scene where he is lured by the sound of a blind woman singing and seems content to simply listen. In total, his mindset as a werewolf seems to be one part scared wild animal, one part hungry wild animal, and one part terrified human fighting desperately from within, as opposed to a mindless engine of slaughter. Subverted in the novelization, where his werewolf form attacks almost every human in his five senses, although without the evil level from his father.

Biography[]
Lawrence Talbot is a Shakespearean actor who has lived in America following his mother's apparent suicide. During a performance of Hamlet, Lawrence meets Gwen Conliffe, the fiancée of his brother Ben. She explains that Ben has disappeared and requests Lawrence's aid. Lawrence returns to his ancestral home of Blackmoor, where he reunites with his estranged father, Sir John Talbot. He learns that Ben's body has been viciously mauled, and decides to investigate. Visiting the gypsies at the full moon, Lawrence is attacked and bitten by a werewolf.
After an unnaturally fast recovery, Lawrence transforms into the Wolfman and goes on a rampage on Blackmoor. The next day, he is apprehended by Inspector Francis Aberline and taken to the asylum he was incarcerated as a child. During his stay, he learns that his father was not only the werewolf that bit him, but also killed Ben and his mother.
Lawrence is taken to a case study overseen by Dr. Hoenneger. He tries to warn the spectators of the danger they are in, but they shrug it off. When the full moon arrives, he transforms into the Wolfman, brutally murders Dr. Hoenneger, and rampages through London. The next day, Lawrence decides to return to Blackmoor to settle things once and for all. Gwen follows him in an attempt to save him, as does Aberline to fight him.
A month later, Lawrence returns to Talbot Hall and attempts to shoot Sir John using his Sikh servant Singh's silver bullets, but Sir John explains that he had removed the powder years ago. The Talbots transform into werewolves as they battle and set fire to Talbot Hall, with the Wolfman decapitating Sir John. Aberline arrives and attempts to shoot the Wolfman, but Gwen disrupts the shot and flees. The Wolfman confronts and bites Aberline before chasing Gwen, cornering her at a gorge. She pleads with Lawrence, who recognizes her. As hunters arrive, she is forced to shoot the Wolfman with a silver bullet, and Lawrence reverts back to his human form before dying from his wound in her arms. However, Gwen soon discovers that Lawrence has bitten Aberline, and both soon realize Aberline's inevitable fate as a werewolf.

- As the Wolfman, Lawrence is far more formidable than he was in the original 1941 film, killing about ten times the number of people the original Wolfman did.
- In the novelization, Lawrence begs his dead mother to help him during his first transformation, in pain and scared out of his mind. Eventually, he just takes to screaming her name, but all that comes out is an animal roar.
