Even if I don't get you now, I always come back!
~ The Yellow Rabbit playbacking William Afton's infamous catchphrase.
You'll fit right in with the others.
~ The Yellow Rabbit taunting Oswald.

The Yellow Rabbit is the main antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's: Fazbear Frights story "Into the Pit", its 2024 video game adaptation and the upcoming interactive novel re-imagination Return to the Pit.

It is an organic, anomalous version of the Spring Bonnie animatronic that came from a supernatural ball pit. Later stories all but spell out the monster is living agony, made by the painful memory of the Missing Children Incident caused by William Afton. It has unclear connections to Eleanor, given it's a resident of her ball pit.

In the 2024 video game adaptation, it was voiced by Patrick Hickey Jr., who also voiced William Afton in one hidden phone call in the same game, Sugamechanger in The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, a clown in Joker, D'Ken in X-Men: The Animated Series and Professor Kindly in Moville Mysteries.

Appearance[]

Being a variation of the animatronic from the video game series, the Yellow Rabbit is a bulky, yellow rabbit costume with blue eyes and square-shaped teeth and a purple (red in the graphic novel) bow tie. A big and noticeable difference is that it appears to be made from organic material, rather than plastic or fabric. When it attacks Oswald at the end of the story, the insides of its mouth are noted to be lined with rows of sharp teeth. In the video game adaptation, it has glowing blue eyes and black lines on its suit, noticeably around the eyes and cheeks. The organic material composing it also seems to be a red, fleshy substance.

Biography[]

Original Story[]

At Jeff's Pizza, Oswald had an argument with his dad and decided to hide in the ball pit. However, upon emerging from the pit, he found himself in the year 1985, in which Jeff's Pizza used to be the establishment Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. After Oswald passed a few days in this time at the past pizzeria, occasionally seeing a yellow rabbit animatronic watching him in the background, one day he heard screaming and cries and watched as all of the customers fled the pizzeria. Then, the Yellow Rabbit lured Oswald in the backstage room, where he saw the bodies of six dead children, put in a sitting position with each wearing party hats. Oswald out of fear went to the ball pit in order to return to his time, while being chased by the Yellow Rabbit.

Once emerging from the pit, his dad and Jeff waited for him, both being mad at Oswald for hiding in the ball pit. When he and his dad were about to leave, the Yellow Rabbit emerged from the ball pit and knocked out Oswald's dad, pulling him into the pit. The bunny takes Oswald to his dad's car and arrived at Oswald's home. He tried to warn his mother about the bunny, but she was confused as everyone, except for Oswald and his cat, saw the Yellow Rabbit as Oswald's dad. After another few days, Oswald sneaked out of his house and went to the pizzeria, where he found his dad still alive. However, the Yellow Rabbit, who turns out to be organic, followed Oswald and tried to eat him, but luckily Oswald managed to get the bunny to hang itself, killing it.

Game Adaptation[]

As a game adaptation of the former story, its role in the story faces little changes to adapt to gameplay. For starters, instead of ominously appearing in Oswald's peripheral vision for a few days before performing its replica of the Missing Children Incident like in the novel, it will start it on the first day Oswald goes back to 1985, and instead of replacing Oswald's dad for just a night, it replaces him for five whole days. It's also revealed that the Yellow Rabbit had kept 4 children alive inside the pizzeria, which Oswald has to rescue to proceed through the game.

Because of the multi-ending nature of the videogame, the player actually has a hand on the Yellow Rabbit's fate.

0-Star Ending[]

If the player exits the pizzeria during the first night of the game, they will condemn Oswald to being stuck and lost in 1985, terrified and without a place to go. And what's worse, having abandoned his dad inside the pizzeria with the Yellow Rabbit inside.

"What am I?" Ending[]

If the player fails the Quick Time Event against the Yellow Rabbit in any of the below endings, they will obtain another ending, where it's implied that Oswald becomes part of the ball pit realm. He wakes up in the main stage, now having a different voice, not being able to feel his body, and finding that the animatronics have become passive to his presence. Oswald walks towards the Pirate's Cove, finding the Yellow Rabbit standing outside it, before he fully realizes that he has become something wildly different and obtaining shining blue eyes, much like the Yellow Rabbit's. It's implied that Oswald became Foxy the Pirate.

1-Star Ending[]

If the player manages to rescue Oswald's dad without picking up all of his lost belongings, they will be met with the 1-Star Ending. After Oswald escapes the Pit's realm back to the present alongside his father, they will be quickly followed by the Yellow Rabbit, who, just like in the beginning of the game, pops out of the ball pit and scoops Oswald back in, kidnapping him and implicitly replacing him, just like it did to his father.

2-Star Ending[]

If the player collects all of Oswald's Dad's belongings, as well as the picture of the founders of Fazbear Entertainment, they will be met with an ending that is more or less a word-for-word replica of the ending seen in the novel, with the notable exception that while the Yellow Rabbit is chasing them out of the pit, it gets distracted by the picture and enters an enraged state. Oswald, now prepared for the Yellow Rabbit's attack, punches him back to the ball pit's protection nets, as the Yellow Rabbit tries to escape it ends up getting even more trapped an eventually the net becomes to tight and the Yellow Rabbit is hung by the net and apparently dies.

However, later on in the post-credits scene, Jeff is shown walking into the pit's room and being attacked and presumably killed by the Yellow Rabbit.

3-Star Ending[]

If the player repairs and completes all of the arcade minigames, as well as doing all the former steps, they will get the 3-Star Ending, which plays out exactly as the 2-Star Ending with the exception that Oswald fully makes up with his dad after his adventure, becoming a closer and happier family, as well as the Yellow Rabbit staying dead.

The post-credits scene also changes, instead showing a brighter future for Jeff's Pizza, now having become a proper restaurant, presumably thanks to the newly renovated arcade room. The credits sequence now ends with a "C U," foreshadowing the next MegaCat Studios game.

Return to the Pit[]

The Yellow Rabbit will return in the 2024 interactive novel re-imagining of the story, featuring 25 different endings.

Personality[]

I will make you suffer, just like I did...
~ The Yellow Rabbit seemingly trying to quote AR Springtrap, as well as hinting at a personal tragedy.

Being an entity created from the agony of William Afton's crimes, the Yellow Rabbit is naturally a representation of what his victims and the general public envisioned him as: a heartless and aggressive monster, whose only purpose is to kill and inflict pain towards others.

It is sadistic in nature, and seems to take a twisted pride on his actions, even luring Oswald to the Safe Room to proudly present the corpses of the Missing Children to him. In the game adaptation, it kept Oswald's dad hostage to torture him instead of just dragging him into the pit like in the original story, and also constantly intimidates Oswald to get out of hiding by threatening him and making light of how he'd fit right in with the rest of his victims.

More leftovers of Afton's public image can be seen in its behavior when posing as Oswald's dad, as it's heavily implied this is a representation of how Afton, despite being a sadistic serial killer, was able to blend in with society as an innocent family man. When in public, the Yellow Rabbit would try to play his part as Oswald's dad, yet with noticeable silence and aggression towards Oswald. When in private, however, the Yellow Rabbit immediately drops the facade and goes on to attempt to murder Oswald, perhaps paralleling William Afton's abuse towards his own children.

When shown a picture of William Afton and Henry Emily in the 2-Star and 3-Star endings, the Yellow Rabbit will twitch violently before roaring in anger. This heavily implies that the Yellow Rabbit adopted Afton's own hatred of Henry at the bare minimum, and/or that it might hate even the real Afton.

The Yellow Rabbit seems to be incapable of articulating for itself, instead resorting to paraphrase quotes said by Afton himself to threaten Oswald during gameplay.

In-game[]

There is no point in hiding.
No more games.
Don't make things any harder for us.
I'll make good use of you.
Come on, let's have some fun.

Referring to it[]

Half a dozen kids, none of them older than Oswald, their lifeless bodies propped into sitting positions, their legs stretched out in front of them. Some of them had their eyes closed as if asleep. Others’ eyes were open, frozen in an empty, doll-like stare. They were all wearing Freddy Fazbear birthday party hats. Oswald couldn’t tell how they had died, but he knew the rabbit was responsible for it, that the rabbit had wanted him to see his handiwork. Maybe the rabbit wanted Oswald to be his next victim, to join the others lined up against the wall with their unseeing eyes.

What is that creepy thing?

Trivia[]

  • It is likely it has some relation to William Afton, due to both their similarities and its strong reaction to seeing a photo of him. It is heavily likely to be a creature created by the agony caused by Afton and/or Eleanor, if not Eleanor herself.
  • While the Yellow Rabbit's murder spree is a reflection of the MCI, there are some notable differences.
    • In Yellow Rabbit's murders, there are six dead children, while in the MCI there were five.
    • The corpses of Afton's victims were never found, while Yellow Rabbit's murders were seen by everyone in the pizzeria.
  • Despite being the Spring Bonnie suit, is never called that name in the story itself, first being referred to as a yellow rabbit animatronic, and then as the Yellow Rabbit once it impersonates Oswald's dad.
