Thelev

Thelev is the main antagonist of the Star Trek episode "Journey to Babel".

Biography[]

Thelev was an Orion infiltrator. He was sent to sabotage the Federation's efforts to admit the planet Coridan, who they had been raiding. Thelev was disguised as an Andorian and joined the staff of the Andorian ambassador Shras, boarding the USS Enterprise as part of a party being transported to the planet Babel to attend a conference on the application.

Thelev first murdered the Tellarite ambassador Gav, making it look as though Vulcan ambassador Sarek was responsible. He then attacked Captain Kirk and tried to kill him. He managed to stab Kirk but Kirk overpowered him and rendered him unconscious. He was secured in the ship's brig.

When the Enterprise came under attack from an Orion ship with orders to destroy it, Kirk had Thelev brought to the bridge. Thelev refused to give any information about either himself or his associates, only confirming that the Enterprise was to be destroyed. Kirk gave the order to shut down power to make the Enterprise look more damaged than it was. Thelev realised he was luring the attacking ship in but had no way to contact them. The Enterprise managed to disable the Orion ship after catching them unawares and the ship self-destructed. Thelev revealed that he had similar orders to "self-destruct" and had taken a slow-acting poison. He initially predicted he had ten minutes left, then realised he had miscalculated as he died before he could be removed from the bridge.
