Thirteen, also known as Ms. Plum, is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Dai Bo) of the donghua series Scissor Seven.
She is an assassin from Xuanwu, a member of the Killer League under Green Phoenix, and as her name implies, the 13th daughter of the Plum Blossom Swordsman. She is sent by her master, Green Phoenix, to assassinate Seven, however she repeatedly fails in the task. Over the course of the series, Thirteen develops feelings for Seven, eventually grows out of her villainy and becomes a fully-fledged heroine.
She is voiced by Duan Yixuan as an adult and Zeng Rong as a child in Mandarin/Cantonese and Jennie Kwan in English.
Personality[]
Having a traumatic past and a tough training, Thirteen is initially aloof and callous, taking pride on her own skills. Ruthless and determined, she will kill people mercilessly, but at the same time she is loyal to her master, Green Phoenix. Throughout the series, she is obsessed with killing Seven, especially after he breaks her mask and escapes her, and she takes those as a humiliation she needs to correct.
However, after being saved by him from a blast, Thirteen feels indebted to Seven and subconsciously develops feelings for him. Because of this, she can no longer bring herself to kill him, much to her master's annoyance. Even after Green Phoenix has already repaid the debt, Thirteen still doesn't want to kill Seven. The fight with Black Bird officially marks the end of her obsession to kill Seven, instead she now becomes an ally who will protect him at all cost.
Biography[]
Background[]
Thirteen was the 13th daughter of the Plum Blossom Swordsman. Unfortunately, because her father expected a son, having 13 daughters displeased him so much that he didn't bother to name them beyond their numbers. Because of this, Thirteen suffered neglectment throughout childhood, even though she still strived for her father's approval. When she saw him duel for the first time, she decided to learn it in secret in hope to impress him and become his apprentice. However one day, the Swordsman finally got a son, and Thirteen said that this was the first time she ever saw him smile. It's clear if it was willingly or forcefully, but Thirteen's mother decided to take her and leave home.
Thirteen and her mother were later attacked by a group of martial artists, and her mother was killed by them despite Thirteen's attempt to defend her. The group were killed by Green Phoenix, who impressed Thirteen so much that she begged him to take her as his apprentice, so that she could become strong enough to defeat every man including her father. He initially refused but tested her by letting her follow him and survive the harsh winter on an island he had multiple targets on. After killing them all, he was accepted into the Killer League and took Thirteen as his apprentice. The training in the mountains wasn't pleasant, as Thirteen once fought a pack of wolves that Green Phoenix eventually killed, and saved a little girl that turned out to be a snake demon. Though her master saved her in time in the latter case, Thirteen became aloof due to this. She also assassinated Professor Chen Jiajie of Stan at some point.
Mission to assassinate Seven[]
When Green Phoenix becomes aware of Seven's survival, he sends Thirteen to assassinate him. When she meets him and recognizes his Killer League token, she becomes curious with his secret identity, but the Stan robot's self-destruction stops her from attacking him. She later targets Mad Bark, who turns out to be Seven himself in disguise, and during the fight, Seven destroys her mask. Not wanting her identity to get out, she tries to kill him only for the two to accidentally kiss. From then on, Seven develops feelings for her and would try to hit her whenever they meet. She later tries to ambush him, but He Dachun's Indestructible Virgin technique foils her plot again.
However, when Stan attempts to invade Chicken Island, Thirteen sides with Seven and Xiao Fei to fight against them. Seven would then save her from a blast, making Thirteen feel indebted to him. Using Heavenly Watchful Eyes, she shows the entire fight to Green Phoenix, and he orders her to kill Seven and bring back the Thousand Demon Daggers.
The Blood Debt[]
After the invasion, Thirteen tries to kill Seven again, and he asks for some rules since he knows he can't beat her alone. She agrees and tells him that if he can't dodge her three moves, he will disappear from her forever. In return, he tells her that if he wins, she will go out with him for a date. However, their fight is interrupted by Thirteen's older sister, Eleven, who tries to kill them only for Seven to protect Thirteen from her darts, making Thirteen feel indebted to him again. Because of this, she says that he wins the fight and gives him back his sword, but he refuses since he prefers scissors. So she reveals the Killer League's hit list to him, and that she only doesn't put him there because of the blood debt, so he has to get away from the Island or she will kill him. Yet, she still comes to help him when he injures himself during his fight with Captain Jack.
When Green Phoenix realizes that Thirteen can't bring herself to kill Seven, he demands the truth and she tells him everything. So he tells her that he will repay that debt and saves Seven from Redtooth again to do so. When Seven and Redtooth are about to fight, Green Phoenix gives Seven back his sword and creates a barrier around the two to prevent outsiders. He then kills Redtooth when Seven is about to lose, and convinces Seven to return to Xuanwu to kill the Killer League Leader. After realizing that Seven has left, Thirteen wants to meet him again under the excuse of wanting to be the one to kill him.
Falling in love with Seven and Redemption[]
Green Phoenix allows Thirteen to meet Seven one last time, so she wears a white dress and comes to the ocean to wait for him. Afterwards, Green Phoenix orders her to finish Seven off for real this time now that the debt is paid. However, having grown a soft spot and subconsciously developed feelings for him, Thirteen hesitates, and her master tells her that she can abandon the mission, but her assassin life will be over and he will disown her.
Thirteen and Seven meet each other at the shine, and Seven invites her for lunch so they can continue small talk, but she stabs him out of shock. She later feels guilty upon seeing the Black Jade medicine he gave her and decides to return it to him. However, Seven absorbs the dagger and seemingly remains unharmed. Suddenly, the Eyeless Sorcerer attacks them with his prayer beads, and reminds Thirteen that she will be hunted down by the Killer League if she chose to protect Seven. Feeling immense guilt, Thirteen chooses to protect Seven regardless. After defeating the sorcerer, the two are then attacked by Manjusaka, who reveals Seven's past and tries to kill him, but Thirteen blocks her attack. They are then confronted by Black Bird, but Thirteen, remembering how she failed to save her mother, determines not to let this happen again and attacks him. Just then Seven's old self reawakens and the two successfully defeat Black Bird.
With this, Thirteen's villainous days come to an end and she becomes Seven's protector, and the two go on to defeat every assassin sent to hunt him down.
