Theories[]
For explaining the situation, officially some theories were invented among the dreamers themselves.
Archetype Theory[]
Jung’s psychoanalytic theory suggest that This Man is an archetypal image belonging to the collective unconscious that can surface in times of hardship in particularly sensitive subjects, something similar similar to Hatman.
Religious Theory[]
This theory suggests that This Man is actually The Creator aka God itself, theorized to be one of the forms in which God manifests himself today.
Dream Surfer Theory[]
This theory suggest that This Man is a real person, who can enter people’s dreams by some of specific psychological skills. Some people believe that he is look same in real-life while some people say it looks completely different. There is also some people suggest that This Man is actually a mental conditioning plan developed by a major corporation.
Dream Imitation Theory[]
This theory suggests that "This Man" phenomenon has arisen casually and has progressively developed by imitations. Basically when people are exposed to This Man they become so deeply impressed that they later starts seeing This Man.
Daytime Recognition Theory[]
This theory also suggest that the phenomenon has existed, arised and developed casually but with some differences. Normally people are not remembering their dreams so This Man facilitates recognition of an undefined oneirical images we are sawing.
Origin[]
This Man and Ever Dream This Man are created by by Italian sociologist and marketer Andrea Natella in 2008. The story layer gained widespread attention and suspicions about the phenomenon being real or not by people of some platforms such as 4chan, ASSME, io9 and etc.. The people later found that www.thisman.org's hosting company owned another domain named "guerrigliamarketing.it", a fake advertising agency founded by Natella that designed subversive hoaxes/legends and created weird art projects exploring pornography, politics, and advertising.
In 2010, on the website of KOOK Artgency, Natella made a post. In post, he confirmed that he was the creator of the whole This Man thing and all of them were just fake. He also said that This Man was inspired from appearance of his own father, he was inspired by the concept of dream invasion he saw in movies and that he wanted to explore the power of the internet to create and spread urban legends. Despite its never confirmed, sources like The Kernel said the phenomenon was almost 100% a guerrilla marketing campaign for Bertino and Ghost House's film, The Strangers.
The reason why some people saw him in their dream is because we saw him and learned the fact that he can enter people's dreams can affect some people and enter our subconscious and make these people seeing him in their dreams.
