Thistle, alternatively translated as Sissel, and also known as Lunatic Magician is the secondary antagonist in the manga and anime series Delicious in the Dungeon. Once the court magician of the Golden Country, Thistle's delving into the dark arts and fanatic devotion to the kingdom would prompt him to unleash a curse of immortality on the country, turning it into a dungeon.
It's later revealed that Thistle's insanity results from the Winged Lion's corrupting influence, devouring his lesser desires and leaving him with only single-minded fanaticism.
He is voiced by Yū Kobayashi in Japanese and by Rebeka Thomas in English.
Appearance[]
Thistle is an androgynous male elf of regular height with red tan colored-skin, beige-colored hair, and purple-colored eyes. Like his kind, he has pointy ears. His initial outfit was a dark purple-colored coat over his blue robe along, white pants, and pairo of brown boots. His grimoire is a golden color (red in the manga) adorned with intricate designs and featuring an eye on each cover that reveals a figure-eight-shaped pupil when touched.
Personality[]
Thistle is often seen as highly unpredictable and difficult to interact with. His loyalty to King Delgal and the Golden Country is unwavering and intense. He has a distinctive habit of scratching his scalp and bite his thumb when experiencing irritation.
Powers and Abilities[]
Thistle wields significant influence over his subterranean domain and its inhabitants. This control extends not only to the layout of the underground realm but also to the creatures that dwell within it. His longevity is enhanced by the same force that empowers the dungeon. He frequently modifies the layout, often creating pits to eliminate adversaries or to make his own escape. His exceptional magic powers are largely derived from the tome he possesses, which enables him to perform his spells sorcery. In dealing with creatures, he usually summons them to support him or directs their actions, including instructing a Red Dragon to seek out King Delgal.
Trivia[]
- Thistle's book is yellow in the anime, instead of red in the manga.
- Due to his androgynous appearance, the American publisher, Yen Press, assumed that Thistle was a female, but is later amended in Chapter 47.
- Thistle doesn't have a favourite food, nor does he dislike any food in particular.
