Thomas Galen is a supporting antagonist in the television series Constantine.
He is a doctor at St. Catherine's Hospital who was consumed by an artifact known as a black diamond, which makes him want to kill anyone who does not want to receive a second chance at life.
He is played by actor Nick Gehlfuss.
Roles[]
He is a villain for the following reasons:
- If any person does not want to undergo treatment he wants to murder him.
- If a person does not want a second chance at life he thinks of murdering him
- He tried to kill John Constantine and his companions after he was found out.
Appearance[]
As a man he is of medium size, with blond hair and dark eyes, he always keeps his doctor suit in the appearances he has.
As a monster his face is deformed with visible veins, one eye covered with skin, with a drooping chin and no apparent hair, he wears dark suits.
Personality[]
He is quite calm and encourages his patients to undergo treatments or surgeries so that they can live a long and full life, but when they refuse, his temper becomes more aggressive and he thinks of killing them as possible for not taking advantage of the opportunity given to them.
Relationship[]
Zed:
After it is revealed to Zed that she has a tumor in her brain, the doctor wants to do everything possible to get her to undergo treatment so that she can
avoid further risk in the future. When Zed refuses several times he is about to get angry before John Constantine discovers that he has the black diamond compound in his chest.
History[]
Belonging to the army corps[]
Thomas was an ex-military man who succumbed to a shrapnel weapon so that the fragments of the black diamond were impregnated in his chest, he later became a doctor.
Doctor[]
When he was a doctor, the black diamond let him know that people who did not want to have a second chance or even a treatment did not deserve to
live, so he brutally murdered several people, until he came to his next patient Zed a girl with a brain tumor, when he saw that she did not want to undergo treatment he became furious but John Constantine prevented him from hurting her with the help of the black diamond which made him escape to the hospital warehouse where they had a confrontation until the arrival of Manny who appeared in his celestial form and took Thomas to the afterlife.
Powers and abilities[]
- Divine physiology: As the black diamond is a weapon created by God, it gives Thomas the following abilities
- Superhuman speed: Thomas was able to easily slip into the warehouse without being seen.
- Superhuman strength: He was able to lift John Constantine and slam him into a grate.

Trivia[]
- Galen's obsession with saving his patients' lives, sometimes against their will, is similar to Nick Gehlfuss's role as Doctor Will Halstead in the medical drama Chicago Med, which premiered the year following Gehlfuss's role as Galen. Halstead is known on the show to overpass his limitations as a doctor in order to give treatment to patients who would otherwise refuse said treatment.
