Queen Thomyris is the overarching antagonist of Prince Of Persia : The Lost Crown. She is the ruler of Persia, but after her son Ghassan get kidnapped by her general Anahita and sent to mount Quaf, she sends the immortals to save him. However during the journey, she is revealed to actually have assassinated Persia's former ruler Darius, while also attempting to do the same to his son Vahram, in order to claim the throne of Persia.
Biography[]
Seizing the throne[]
Thomyris served king Darius the former ruler of Persia while Darius was showing his son Vahram to the Simurgh to see if he was worthy of the throne Thomyris appeared. Wanting the throne for herself she killed Darius, his son Vahram, and also the Simurgh bird so no one would know of her crimes. She was unaware that Vahram survived as his father Darius gave him the power of the Simurgh. Since she was the last person to see the Simurgh before it disappeared she lied to the people of Persia that it landed on her shoulder and thus was given its blessing to rule Persia. Her destroying the Simurgh bird would have horrible consequences as it would cause a drought on Persia and created a curse on Mount Qaf. After becoming queen Thomyris would have three children each delivered by the same Persian doctor two of them died do to external circumstances the third however was an enigma. After delivering the third child the Persian doctor knew it was a healthy boy but when he looked at the cold the next day he could have sworn that it was a different baby. When the Persian doctor confronted Thomyris she denied that the baby was different and when the doctor kept asking her questions she banished him to mount Qaf the last child would be the prince Ghassan.
Ruiling Persia[]
For 30 years Thomyris would rule Persia but her horrible leadership made Persia weak. Not only did the drought had a factor in it but their was also famine and people suffering because of her poor leadership this caused the Kushans to attack Persia lead by their general Uvishka. Thomyris summoner her armies to defend Persia but they fell so she summoned the 8 immortals to defend Persia. Sargon one of the immortals faced Uvishka and killed him stopping the Kushans invasion and saving Persia. As thanks she praised the immortals for saving Persia and told her son Ghassan to give Sargon a royal sash as a token of gratitude. The celebration was short lived as Thomyris son Ghassan was kidnapped by Anahita the mentor of Sargon. Thomyris ordered the immortals to bring her son back and they left to Mount Qaf to retrieve him. While trying to stop Vahram from gaining the power of the Simurgh Sargon would learn the dark truth how Thomyris usurped the throne and was the one who tasked Anahita to kidnap her son in the first place.
Fall from power[]
After Sargon stopped Vahram and restored the Simurgh he returned to Persia with prince Ghassan. Ghassan angry and disgusted for her mother's actions renounced his title and left Thomyris didn't stop him. Sargon would then tell her that most of the immortals were dead and also revealed that 30 years ago king Darius was murdered. He left so that Thomyris could tell the story herself as he was walking away the people demanded she tell them the truth.
Personality[]
At a first glance Thomyris seemed liked a benevolent ruler who cared about Persia and its people and she could show appreciation as she congratulated the immortals for saving Persia she also apparently cared for her son Ghassan. However this was all a facade as she was actually a cold, ruthless, power hungry person who wanted the throne of Persia at any cost. This was best shown as she killed Darius, Vahram when he was a child, and the Simurgh the very protector of Persia. She was a terrible leader as many people questioned her rule and her own son even stated she was not very motherly either. However she was manipulative as when people questioned her rule she would remind them of the lie that the Simurgh gave her its blessings thus keeping her people in line. Even when her actions caused great consequences to Persia she didn't care and instead tried to cover up the truth so she would not be punished. She was callous to the lives of others as when Sargon mentioned that most of the immortals were dead while trying to save her son she stated it was a small price to protect her bloodline. Thomyris was cool and collected as a leader but once her crimes were revealed by Sargon she was shocked as now she had to face repercussions from the people of Persia.
Trivia[]
- Thomyris was similar to the Vizier the antagonist of the original Prince of Persia games as both betrayed their rulers and went to great lengths to acquire the throne Persia including murder. Difference between the two is that Thomyris was never fought instead Sargon revealed her crimes to the people of Persia.
- It is unknown as to why Thomyris had her son Ghassan kidnapped as it was never revealed in the game Anahita refused to tell Sargon and Ghassan himself wondered why she wanted him kidnapped in the first place. It was later revealed in the mask of darkness dlc that Thomyris had her son kidnapped so that he could acquire the Simurgh's blessing. This however makes no sense as she made sure that the Simurgh disappeared before she left Mount Qaf.
- One theory is that she was somehow aware of Vahram's attempt to seize the throne so she had her son kidnapped to use it as an excuse for the immortals to go to mount Qaf so he and the others who were loyal to him would be imprisoned or die there. Seeing as how she lied to Anahita that her men and the immortals would secure the area when they except for Vahram had no idea about her plan makes this theory possible.
- Another theory is that she did want her son to gain the Simurgh's blessing so he could be a true ruler of Persia though because of her nature she would most likely use that to her advantage further solidifying her right to the throne. Seeing as how this places her son at great risk though this theory is unlikely.
- When doing a side quest in the game Sargon would meet the hermit who was the same doctor who accused Thomyris of switching her baby with another baby. It was unknown what happened to her real child but the hermit suspects that it was Sargon himself.
