~ Thor asks Lü Bu not to let himself be defeated immediately after the awakening of Mjölnir. |
“ | The pride of the warriors... who fought in that arena... I WILL NOT ALLOW IT TO BE TARNISHED BY ANYONE! Until this Ragnarok is finished, life and death will decided on the arena. That is the courtesy that we, as warriors, must show to our fallen enemies! | „ |
~ Thor interrupts the battle between Buddha, Beelzebub and Odin out of respect for the warriors who fell in the Ragnarok Tournament. |
Thor is a supporting antagonist in the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok.
He is the main antagonist of the First Round, a minor antagonist in the Third Round, the Fourth Round, the Sixth Round and the Seventh Round and a supporting character in the Tenth Round of the Ragnarok Tournament.
Thor is a Norse God, considered the strongest among them, and the son of Odin, the King of the Norse Pantheon, as well as the Vanguard of the Gods. He is also the Gods' representative of the Gods Fighters during the First Round, where he faces Lü Bu as the Humans' representative of the Einherjar.
He is voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa, who has also voiced Dio Brando in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood Movie and PS2 Videogame, Garou in One-Punch Man, N in Pokémon Masters, Damian in Pokémon, Android 16 and Spice in Dragon Ball Z, Tenshinhan in Dragon Ball, Shiki in Togainu no Chi, Dune in HeartCatch PreCure!, Fiore in Sailor Moon R: The Movie, Arashi in Naruto and Hao Asakura in Shaman King, in the Japanese dubbed version of the anime adaptation. He is voiced by Jalen K. Cassell in the English dub.
Appearance[]
Thor has the appearance of an extremely tall and muscular man, with long red hair that exceeds his waist and yellow eyes (greenish yellow in the anime) with black sclera. Numerous golden patterns emanate from his hands and eyes. Thor wears a white sash around his torso and several brown belts around his waist, with one worn diagonally. He also wears two leggings that go down his knees.
In combat, Thor always carries two Divine Weapons: a giant grey hammer, the Mjölnir, and two black gauntlets, the Járngreipr.
Personality[]
“ | Just make it worth my while. Otherwise I'll kill you. | „ |
~ Thor threatens Brunhilde to kill her if she disappoints him with the story of Ragnarok. |
Thor appears as a cold, icy and indifferent God, as he remains expressionless most of the time, even during fights. However, at least in battle this is only an appearance: just like Lü Bu, his opponent in Ragnarok, Thor is a bloodthirsty fight freak and has a great interest in fighting, especially when opponents are strong and/or deserving.
Furthermore, when a fight satisfies him, he only shows joy and happiness in his expressions, to the point of giving the best smile of his life during the First Round. Thor is also a man of few words, not speaking unless absolutely necessary or when in combat. He has a stoic and aloof expression on his face most of the time, and this makes him seem unapproachable to others.
Despite this, he displays great honor and sportsmanship, making sure to pay his respects to Lü Bu by addressing him by name and killing his extremely loyal underlings at their request, so they may join him in glory. When Thor feels made fun of, he doesn't hesitate to threaten death to anyone who tries. He maintains that the life and death of the Ragnarok Tournament warriors must be decided on the field, and does not allow anyone to dishonor the Tournament's fallen by fighting outside the ring.
Biography[]
Thor is the Norse God of Thunder and the son of Odin, the King of the Norse Pantheon. One day Asgard, the homeland of the Nordic Gods, is attacked by a horde of Jötnar: they have always attacked singly and without a plan, but that day they attack in groups and with a well-organized strategy. In this way, the Jötnar come one step away from destroying Asgard, but at that point Thor intervenes who, using Thor's Hammer, manages to easily kill all 66 Jötnar who have invaded Asgard, thus ending up bored for too quick victory.
At a certain point, Thor faces, defeats and kill the Jörmungandr, the World Serpent, using his strongest technique, the Geirröd Thor's Hammer. Thor participates in the Gods' Council of the 2000 B.C., in which the Gods decide to spare Humanity but still inflict punishment on them.
Following the Gods' Council of the XXI Century, Brunhilde convinces the Gods to organize Ragnarok to show them that Humanity is worthy of salvation and, at the end of the meeting, Thor joins Brunhilde. After killing Incubus who was bothering her, Thor asks her what she has in mind and, receiving no response from her, threatens to kill her if she disappoints him with the story of Ragnarok.
Thor ends up being chosen by Zeus as one of the Gods Fighters, the representatives of the Gods in the Ragnarok Tournament, and takes the field already in the First Round representing Gods to face Lü Bu, representing Humans. Thor finds himself in trouble from Lü Bu’s Völundr, going so far as to lose one of the Járngreipr and having to awaken his Mjölnir, but feeling happiness at finally having found an opponent worthy of him. Eventually Thor wins the fight and kills his opponent, feeling sadness for having had to kill the only one who has ever stood up to him, but honoring him by killing all his army that had decided to follow him in death.
Afterwards, Thor retires to his rooms and from there follows all the other Rounds of the Ragnarok Tournament. At the end of the Ninth Round Thor participates in a meeting between all the remaining Gods Fighters in which it is decided to quickly obtain the last two victories that the Gods need to win the Ragnarok Tournament. Anubis offers to fight in the Tenth Round, but is overtaken by Susano'o no Mikoto who decides to fight in the Tenth Round.
During the Tenth Round, Thor intervenes in the dispute between Odin, Buddha and Beelzebub, arguing that the life and death of the fighters of the Ragnarok Tournament must be decided on the field and that, until the Tournament will be underway, will not allow anyone to dishonor the fallen of Ragnarok. The subsequent arrival of Sakata Kintoki and Adamas convinces Odin to desist, and so Thor departs together with Odin and Huginn & Muninn.
Powers and Abilities[]
Overall Abilities: Thor is considered the "Strongest Nordic Warrior" and thus possesses almost unmatched power in combat. He once single-handedly faced an army of 66 Jötnar, annihilating each Giant with the Thor's Hammer technique, where he leans back to charge lightning onto the Mjölnir and then lunges forward by pulling a very powerful hammer blow, making him a legendary figure within the Nordic Pantheon.
Divine Physiology: As a God, Thor possesses physical abilities far superior to those of any ordinary Human and his body cannot be harmed by deadly weapons. However, he can be injured and killed by physical attacks with superhuman strength or by Divine Weapons. Like all Gods, Thor is eternally young, being unable to die of old age.
Divine Strength: As the strongest God and Warrior of the Norse, Thor possesses unfathomable physical strength and power that allows him to wield his hammer, Mjölnir, single-handed and without difficulty, and even kill the World Serpent, the Jörmungandr (a giant serpent that could be large enough to encircle the Earth and grab hold of its own tail), with his finest strike: the Geirröd Thor's Hammer, a technique with which, after awakening the Mjölnir, throws it forward so that it comes back, and immediately after using the centrifugal force to throw a Thor's Hammer much more powerful than normal. Thor is said to be strong enough to tear seas and lands apart with his hammer, and even to shatter the Earth itself.
Divine Speed, Reflexes, Endurance and Stamina: As a God, Thor possesses unfathomable speed and reflexes, being able to swing his hammer at unimaginable speeds. During his battle against the Jötnar, Thor's attacks were so fast that the Giants were unable to see or even sense his attacks. Thor was also able to keep up with Lü Bu's speed and reaction time. As a God, Thor showed no signs of fatigue during his fight with Lü Bu: even after being cut by the Chinese hero, Thor showed no signs of pain and is managed to continue the fight without any problem.
Hammer Proficiency: Thor uses a giant hammer, the Mjölnir, as his primary weapon, and probably has over a thousand years of experience using it. With it he is skilled enough to single-handedly defeat an entire army of Giants and possesses multiple techniques which he can use to kill and annihilate his opponents. Despite the hammer's enormous size, Thor can wield it without any problem and is even able to use its immense weight to his advantage. The Mjölnir is a living Divine Weapon and, when it awakens, some sort of giant veins emerge from the metal and it begins to vibrate: Thor is so powerful that to destroy the unawakened Mjölnir simply by holding it, for this he uses gloves, the Járngreipr, to withhold his strength until the moment the Mjölnir awakens.
Supernatural Abilities: As the God of Thunder, Thor possesses absolute control over electricity and divine lightning and can use them in combat. He demonstrated this skill during his fight with Lü Bu, when he covered his left forearm in electricity before latching onto his hammer in preparation for one of his signature moves. Also, just like his father Odin, Thor has a menacing aura and natural presence, as he strikes fear into all who look upon him. His aura is so menacing that it petrified Göll and almost made the normally calm and composed Brunhilde lose her temper. However, some like Lü Bu are immune. In the anime, Thor teleports from outside the arena to its center: it is unknown what the limits of this ability are, including its maximum travel distance and the number of times Thor can use it.
