Thrax also served as the main antagonist of Power Rangers Hyper Force, serving as the public leader of the alliance.
He was played by Glen Levy.
Biography
Past
Thrax was the son of Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa born during Power Rangers Turbo and was responsible for them reitiring from villainy. Somehow, he survived Zordon's Energy Wave and grew to hate his parents for being redeemed and desired to destroy all Power Rangers in the universe to get revenge. Sometime later however, he battled the Sentinel Knight who trapped him in a space dumpster similar to the one his mother was trapped in.
Operation Overdrive
In 2007 however, Thrax eventually frees himself from the dumpster and goes to Earth, angry that his parents were good and wanting to restore their evil legacy. He sent out a series of communicators to the numerous villain factions on Earth, Flurious, Moltor, Kamdor, Miratrix, and the Fearcats. They are teleported to a meeting on Onyx where he proposes the idea of joining forces. The villains are all against the idea at first but he tells them that it would be temporary; just long enough to get rid of the Power Rangers. Afterwards, they can look for the jewels of the Corona Aurora without opposition because he only wants revenge so they agree. Together, they defeat the Power Rangers and and sever their link to the Morphin Grid; taking away their ranger powers. With the Overdrive Rangers out of the way, Thrax' alliance begins searching for the Corona Aurora's jewels but the Sentinel Knight restores the powers of five veteran Power Rangers that take on the villains and constantly defeat them. Thrax attempts to get his hands on the mystical sword Excelsior that can destroy the Sentinel Knight but his evil nature prevents him from claiming it and it falls into the hands of the Overdrive Rangers who use it to help defeat Thrax' monster Vulturus. After the Overdrive Rangers get their powers back, the alliance face off against them, the veteran rangers, and the Sentinel Knight who has regained his physical body. Despite being able to fight off Adam Park with the Defender Vest, Thrax is finally destroyed by the Sentinel Knight with the Power Kick.
Power Rangers Hyper Force
Sometime in the future, Thrax was resurrected by The Alliance using the Corona Aurora.
Appearance
Thrax's appearance seems mainly derived from that of his father in the form of his red skin, the helmet like appearance of the left side of his face, and his Z-Staff. The only real physical traits he got from his mother was the human like right side of his face & pieces of orange cloth wrapped around his horns . However Thrax's skeletal jawbone and spinal column are reminiscent of his uncle, Rito Revolto. The armor on his chest and shoulders are similar to that of Zeltrax from Power Rangers: Dino Thunder.
Personality
Thrax is similar to his father, Lord Zedd, in terms of personality, as the former is a ruthless, sadistic, callous, vengeful, power-hungry, and coldhearted entity that will do anything in his power to destroy the Power Rangers and rule the Earth. Despite this however, Thrax is highly intelligent (far more than Kamdor) and is very sharp when in battle. Thrax is an extremely clever, calculating and ruthless mastermind, who will stop at nothing to destroy the Power Rangers and Sentinel Knight and continue the villainous legacy of his parents. He was extremely cunning and sly and created a cunning plan of destroying the Rangers by stripping them of their powers and leaving them helpless before him and his army of villains. Just like all other villains of Operation Overdrive he desired world domination and wanted to get revenge on Power Rangers for turning his parents to the side of good. However despite his extremely intelligent, sly and calculating nature, his obsession with power and vengeance makes him arrogant and rude, as he taunts and makes snide comment over his parent's "betrayal". It can be assumed by his actions that he wished to "avenge" his parents since he was not after the Corona Aurora.
Powers and Abilities
Thrax is a highly skilled fighter and has inherited the dark magic powers of his parents, in the form of teleportation, energy blasts, and creating monsters.
- Monster Creation: Much like Rita and Zedd, Thrax is able to create a monster, such as Vulturus.
- Teleportation: Thrax can teleport to any location at will.
- Power Punch: Thrax can charge up white energy into his hand and perform a powered up punch which is strong enough to knock the Black Ranger out of his Defender Vest.
- Strength: Thrax possesses far greater strength than any villains in Operation Overdrive, being able to take on the Black Ranger and nearly best him as well as easily smashing his dumpster (after Sentinel Knight weakened) just by thrusting his arms out.
Arsenal
- Z-Staff: Being the son of Lord Zedd, Thrax possesses a double bladed staff that bears a resemblance to Lord Zedd's staff which can aid him in combat.
- Lightning Beam: Thrax can fire powerful white, black, or light blue colored lightning beams from his staff. One blast was strong enough to send the Red Ranger flying.
- Earth Implosion: By combining his staff's power with all six of the antagonists, he can create an implosion in the Earth. This was his ultimate attack with the other villains and is strong enough to damage the Morphin Grid to such an extent that it obliterated the Rangers' powers.
- Communication Devices: Thrax used red and white beetle shell-like communication devices, which he can send to an ally.
- Suction: These devices can even suck people up like a vacuum cleaner. It immediately sucked up Kamdor when she and Miratrix refused his offer. This was used to bring the other villains to him, but its ultimate fate is unknown.
Weaknesses
- Arrogance: Thrax's ultimate weakness was his arrogance because he celebrated his triumph and believed in his victory far too soon, and also underestimated the Rangers and Sentinel Knight who used their wits and managed to find the way to restore their powers and also summon Sentinel Knight with his Excelsior Sword. Sentinel Knight eventually managed to destroy Thrax.
Trivia
- In the flashback that showed Thrax escaping from his dumpster prison, he said "After all these years I'm free!", which mimicked what his mother Rita Repulsa said in the opening of the episodes of the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers when she was shown escaping her space dumpster, "Ah! After ten thousand years I'm free!"
- The communicators Thrax sent out resembled the chrome on Lord Zedd's chest.
- The right side of his face bears a resemblance to Grimlord from VR Troopers.
- His closest counterpart in Super Sentai is Kai, Witch Bandora's (counterpart of Rita) son.
- Thrax is the first one-time villain to later become a primary antagonist.
- Throughout HyperForce, Thrax' identity was kept unknown until the penultimate episode.
- Unlike the other villain factions and even his own parents and grandfather, Thrax is the only one who managed to have a long term victory over the Rangers.
- The disparity between his adult age, his parents only marrying and considering children for the first time in 1995 and his battle with Sentinel Knight thousands of years ago is unexplained.
- He is the only member of his family that never appeared in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Season 3.
- Also on the bottom right of his face looks like a piece of his father's face guard from his helmet.
- In a 2014 interview, director Koichi Sakamoto stated that the film Kyoryuger vs. Go-Busters, which saw the return of the Zyurangers among the past Kyoryu Super Sentai, was originally to feature a daughter of Witch Bandora. Since Koichi Sakamoto worked on Power Rangers Operation Overdrive as an executive producer, this may not be coincidental. However, this plan fell through for unknown reasons and the character was replaced with Neo-Grifforzer.
