It's been a while since I watched the Kick Ass movies, but from what I remember Frank didn't really use his son as a pawn as his son willingly assisted his father in busting Kick Ass and Big Daddy he was only against his father wanting to torture and kill Kick Ass because he learned that he was really nothing in the grand scheme of things. Overall though, he loved his son as he was outraged when he thought Big Daddy killed him when he infiltrated one of the buildings Frank's headquarters.
