The Three Bears, composed of Papa Bear (or Papa), Mama Bear (or Mama) and Baby Bear (or Baby), are major antagonists in DreamWorks's 43rd full-length animated film Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, a spin-off of the Shrek franchise, as well as the short Puss in Boots: The Trident.
They are a family of three anthropomorphic brown bears who serve Goldilocks as her henchmen. The Three Bears assist her in her attempts to prevent the Puss in Boots and Big Jack Horner from getting the Last Wish so they can get it for themselves, uncaring that Puss desperately needs to avoid losing his last life and dying.
Papa Bear was voiced by Ray Winstone, who also played Carlin in Scum, Captain Teague in Cold Mountain, Soldier Sam in the English dub of The Magic Roundabout, Arnold French in The Departed, George McHale in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Ares in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Admiral Orlock in Killzone 3, Bad Bill in Rango, Tubal-Cain in Noah, Tyson in The Queen's Gorgi, and General Dreykov in Black Widow. Mama Bear was voiced by Academy Award-winning Olivia Coleman, who also played Madame Thenardier in the Les Miserables miniseries, Godmother in Fleabag, PAL in The Mitchells vs. the Machines, and Mrs. Scrubbit in Wonka. Baby Bear was voiced by Samson Kayo in his first villainous role.
Appearance[]
The Three Bears are a family of three large brown bears.
Papa Bear is the largest, with graying brown fur, wears a yellow knitted scarf around his neck, and has one yellow right eye while his left eye is scarred and blind. When Goldi was a little girl, Papa Bear was just the same as he would be a few years later, except that he still didn't wear a scarf.
Mama Bear is smaller than her husband but still bigger than their son. She has a warmer shade of brown fur, wears a pink beret and two golden earrings on her right ear and a single pearl earring in her left ear, and her eyes are green. When Goldi was a child, Mama Bear was just as she would be a few years later, except that she wasn't wearing her hat yet.
Baby Bear is the smallest but is still quite big compared to humans, and has brown fur with a subtle shade of gold, has blue eyes, a notch in his right ear, and he wears a chain necklace with a golden doorknob, a fork, and a cog. When he was a cub, Baby Bear was much shorter in stature and didn't yet wear his necklace.
Personality[]
The Three Bears, with Goldilocks as their self-appointed leader, are a crime family, thus they are out for personal gain and aren't afraid to be violent about it.
Papa Bear, despite his massive size and fierce exterior, is surprisingly polite and gentlemanly, though he can certainly be ferocious and perfectly willing to torture victims (such as the "piano treatment"), which appears to stem from a love of music given how well he plays piano and sings passionately while doing so. Papa follows his adopted daughter's lead and he is a family man who cares about his wife and children deeply. Papa prefers it when his son and daughter get along, admonishing Baby whenever he says Goldi isn't his sister and trusting Goldi's leadership even though she didn't tell them what she wanted to wish for until Baby confronted her on it. Her answer, that she wanted to wish for her real family, broke Papa's heart, that he even expressed some hurt bitterness over how Goldi didn't truly view him as her father, but he still cared enough about her to help her get the wish if that was what she truly wanted. When the Wishing Star was lost, along with its wish, Papa was happy that Goldi finally saw the Three Bears as her true family, and was even happier to see her and Baby get along as true brother and sister.
Mama Bear is very much a mama bear in that she loves her children and will fiercely protect them, and she can put on such a frightening display that it makes those she threatens faint in fear. She has a big heart, as she fondly remembers the day Goldilocks became part of their family and lovingly recounts the memory to her adoptive daughter during their quest for the Wishing Star. When Goldi revealed she wanted the star to wish for her real family, despite being heartbroken by this, Mama (as well as Papa and Baby) chose to help Goldi get the wish if that was what she truly wanted, proving that, in spite of Goldi wanting to leave them for her own biological family Mama cared enough for the happiness of her adoptive daughter to put it before her own. In the end, Mama was overjoyed when Goldi truly embraced the Three Bears as her family and even passed up the wish to save Baby.
Baby Bear has a clear sibling rivalry with his adoptive sister, though more than once he declared that she was not his sister and was just a "porridge-stealing orphan", indicating Baby was sore about Goldi invading their home and taking his things though it's possible he was jealous of Goldi being the "golden child" in their family, making him second fiddle next to her in their parents' eyes. They argue very much like a brother and sister however and in spite of them constantly butting heads he typically, albeit begrudgingly, follows her lead and seemed to at least trust she knew what she was doing. His loyalty however is not blind, for unlike Mama and Papa, Baby could only put up with Goldi's bossiness for so long before he angrily confronted her, demanding she tells them what she wanted to wish for and was worth dragging them through everything they'd been through and the dangers they'd been in. Baby was shocked when Goldi admitted she wanted the wish to be with her real family, leaving Baby shocked and hurt. The fact Baby (along with their parents) still chose to help Goldi get the wish proves that in spite of their family drama Baby cared deeply for Goldi and she him when she passed up the wish to save him, and they reconciled once the adventure was over and Baby finally embraced Goldi truly as his sister and was pleased when she suggested he come up with their next big move: to take over Big Jack Horner's pastry factory in lieu of his demise. Baby had a bragging side in that he often bragged to those he and his family robbed that they'd been "indicted" by the Three Bears Crime Family. Baby is also not very bright as his plans often backfire due to his lack of intelligence or skill, such as his plan to steal the map to the Wishing Star from Big Jack Horner's pie factory.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish[]
The Three Bears first appears when they and Goldilocks visit the city of Del-Mar, as they follow the footsteps of Puss to find him.
The Three Bears and Goldi then go into Mama Luna's house for Puss. Goldilocks tells Mama Luna that she and the family got an offer for him, in which Mama Luna declined that Puss is here. Goldilocks then had Papa Bear and Mama Bear interrogate her, which ended up having her fainted. She then orders Baby to search for Puss by using his smell, while she and Mama search for Puss as Papa Bear torments Mama Luna while playing her piano. Baby then informs Goldilocks and his parents that he found Puss, in which he shows them his corpse.
The Three Bears, along with Goldilocks then infiltrate Big Jack Horner's collection in which they spot Puss and Kitty as well as Jack Horner. As Goldi and the Bears chase Puss and Kitty, the Bears attempt to come after him in which Puss uses a stick on Baby and Mama, as he attempts to do the same with Papa, only to be knocked out of the air as he breaks out of the window with Kitty as the two them hop on in a carriage with Perrito.
The Bears and Goldi then go on a journey to the Wishing Star, while planning on what they can do when they make a wish for it. Big Jack Horner then bumps into them as the Bears and Goldi crash while Mama holds the latter to cushion her fall. As Big Jack Horner is taken Perrito hostage, The Bears and Goldi then threaten him by using one of his henchmen. After noticing Puss and Kitty have the map, the Bears and Goldi then go into battle to retrieve the Map while the Baker's Dozen try to kill Puss and his friends.
After getting the map to the Wishing Star, the Bears and Goldi then celebrate as they travel to the Wishing Star in which they notice a cabin in the forest, as they relax in while Goldi looks at a book she used to look at, in which was the day she was adopted. As Puss and Kitty sneak in, the latter accidentally leaves one of the boots, causing Goldi and Mama to notice it's gone. As Goldi wakes up Baby and Papa, Puss then gets caught in which Goldi and the Bears then attempt to retrieve the Map. Puss and Kitty then battle the Bears as they each kick the porridge, in which they throw the hot porridge to Mama, cold porridge to Baby, and the warm porridge to Papa.
As Puss and Kitty escape with the map, Goldi and the Bears then kidnap Perrito. Kitty then goes to rescue Perrito while Puss finds a way in the Soul's Cave. Goldi and the Bears then make a booby-trap in order to get the Map back from the cats using Perrito as bait, a couple of minutes later Baby Bear and Goldilocks start a fight, which is amused and mocked by Perrito, Baby Bear tells Perrito to stay out of the fight, which causes Perrito to laugh and insult the Three Bears and Goldilocks with profanity, which makes Mama Bear and Papa Bear laugh and admire Perrito, who then tells Goldilocks that her family is funny and she being an orphan she won the lottery, which makes Goldilocks sensitive when Mama Bear says that they should adopt Perrito since he's just like them, Kitty stealthily takes Perrito and replaces he with a fake statue of Perrito, which makes Baby Bear angry and takes the statue, but just as Goldilocks reminds Baby Bear about the trap it's too late as they fell for the trap.
Later, while Puss in Boots arrives at the place where the Last Wish was, the Three Bears and Goldilocks unknowingly (since they were lost) were near the place where the Last Wish was. Which makes Goldilocks insult and scold Baby Bear, fed up with Goldilocks' abuse and insults, Baby Bear gets angry with Goldilocks, yelling at her and asking her what is her "just right" and how important is that desire that has got him and his parents involved in this, what which makes Goldilocks reveal that he wants to use the wish to get back together with his birth parents, which breaks the hearts of the Three Bears, to which the Bears doubt Goldilocks, to which Goldilocks comments that she's not a bear and does not feel part of the family, to which Mama Bear says that if that wish is very important to her they will get the Last Wish.
Then the Three Bears and Goldilocks join in the final fight. During the fight, Baby Bear manages to knock Jack Horner down and prevent him from shooting his parents but he himself is blasted away by Jack's magic staff, sending him into the barrier where Mama and Papa attempt to pull him back, to no avail. Goldilocks claims the map but when she realizes that Baby Bear is about to die, she abandons her wish and saves Baby Bear, to which he gets excited. After the "defeat" of Big Jack Horner, Death appears whistling in front of everyone, which attracts the attention of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, after Goldilocks watches the epic battle of Puss in Boots and Death and the defeats of the latter. After this, Goldilocks and the Three Bears team up with Puss in Boots, Kitty and Perrito to defeat Big Jack Horner. After Jack Horner's defeat and the destruction of the Wishing Star Puss in Boots, Kitty, Perrito, the Three Bears and Goldilocks enjoy the meteor shower together. After a few minutes, the Bears and Goldilocks leave, saying goodbye to Puss in Boots, Kitty and Perrito, she tells the latter that he was right about how lucky she was, and she says goodbye as a Perrito before winking at him. Later on while they were planning what was going to be of his life, Baby says that they can be the replacement for Jack Horner's pastry organization, to which Goldilocks comments that it is a good idea, upon hearing what the bears were planning, the Talking Cricket told them says it's a good idea and that he can be his business partner, Baby Bear freaks out which makes Goldilocks try to hit the Talking Cricket.

- The Three Bears (along with Goldilocks) are the fourth villains of the Shrek franchise who are usually good in the fairy tales but villains in the film series, following the Fairy Godmother, Prince Charming and Rapunzel.
- The Three Bears (along with Goldilocks) are the second major villains of the Shrek franchise to redeem themselves (after Humpty Alexander Dumpty), and the only ones who survive at the end (Rumpelstiltskin survived but never redeemed himself).
- Baby Bear is likely to be in his late teens to early 20s, seeing as he looked around Goldi’s age when she first arrived at the Bears’ house.
- A different couple of Three Bears appeared in the original Shrek film as three of the many fairy tale creatures sold and captured by Lord Farquaad, with the father and son later seen in Shrek's swamp while the mother is implied to have been killed and turned into a carpet by Farquaad. It's unlikely that these Three Bears are the ones from the first Shrek film, given that their Mama Bear is alive and their Baby Bear looks older than the one seen in that film, so it's possible that DreamWorks Animation forgot about the appearance of the Three Bears in Shrek when they decided to include them in the Puss in Boots sequel, though the fact that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish takes place after Shrek Forever After makes this more puzzling.
- Given the rug of Mama Bear from the Shrek series was likely meant to be dark humor and how she was inconsistently portrayed alive and dead, it was likely not meant to be taken seriously.
- However many fans speculate that the Mama Bear or Papa Bear from The Last Wish may have been the baby bear in the first Shrek film that lost his mother in the original film and grew up to make sure their family are strong enough to face someone like Farquaad again.
- There is another fan speculation that the three bears are the same as the ones from Shrek except the mama bear is the stepmom since the one from Shrek already died, while this Baby Bear is the one from Shrek but he is now all grown up, given the time span between the first Shrek film and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
