Thugs are the most common enemies in the Batman: Arkham videogame series. They are criminals who are individuals who commit crimes as well as the majority of thugs work for Gotham City's professional criminals such as Joker and Penguin. Most of these criminals are not very intelligent, as they are quite clumsy and inept compared to their employers. In the second year of Batman, various regular criminals committed crimes all over New Gotham City as they torture people and using firearms to control over the city.

History[]

New Gotham Battle[]

During the events of Batman's second year, criminals were overrunning the city and citizens were ordered to stay in their homes for safety. Criminals started various crimes which Batman stopped. Some thugs worked for the assassins, Joker or various other crime lords.

Thugs in Blackgate Prison followed the one responsible for leading the breakout; Joker. Thugs were overrunning the prison but Batman defeated them alongside both Bane and Joker where he then left for Captain James Gordon and the GCPD to recapture Blackgate.

Arkham Asylum[]

All thugs worked for Joker at this time and broke out of their cells; helping the crazed clown in his take over. Thugs murdered various Staff members such as Doctors and Guards as well as taking hostages. A small number of thugs was injected with Titan by Joker; becoming strengthened mutants which was left for Batman to take down.

Towards the end, some thugs were killed but the majority returned to their cells as the police recaptured Arkham Island. Some of the remaining thugs were eventually transferred to Arkham City along with numerous other supervillains.

Arkham City[]

During the events of Arkham City, thugs and criminals were transferred to that new facility under the orders of Professor Hugo Strange; Warden of Arkham City. Three gang leaders (Joker, Penguin, and Two-Face) began gang wars in the city and both Joker and Penguin were given military grade weaponry by Strange.

Towards the end, three gang leaders remained in their areas and didn't really kill each other as they remained in their controlled areas. Joker died, the Penguin was imprisoned in one of his cases in his Museum and Two-Face's was later defeated by Catwoman.

Arkham Knight[]

When Scarecrow have incited fear amongst the citizens of Gotham City, millions have evacuated away from safety. This caused the city to quickly fell into anarchy under the control of numerous thugs and other criminals including Two-Face and the Penguin.

After Batman have successfully regained control of the city and had sent most of his rogues gallery to justice, the GCPD eventually sent out its reinforcements to subdue the remaining rioters causing chaos around the city.
