My king, o my king, come forth now with haste. With my elegant lightning, let us lay this land to waste. Tear apart the skies, rend the clouds asunder. Pave the road to paradise, with hurricane and thunder.
~ Thunder Serpent Narwa

Thunder Serpent Narwa, also known as Narwa the Allmother, is the main antagonist from Monster Hunter Rise. She is an Elder Dragon and the mate of Wind Serpent Ibushi, whose calls prompt him to rend away all nearby surroundings as a part of their mating rituals. This causes nearby monsters to flee the destruction in the direction of Kamura, causing a catastrophe known as the Rampage every 50 years.

Biography[]

It is known that Narwa is waiting for her "king", which is Wind Serpent Ibushi, while Ibushi wanders through the sky trying to find Narwa, Narwa seems to be waiting at the Coral Palace. Every fifty years, Narwa and Ibushi meet each other, while Ibushi creates wind and Narwa creates thunder, they create heavy storms that destroy huge area of landscape, scaring and killing the monsters nearby. Which caused the monsters to flee and cause Rampages at Kamura Village, causing people there to receive monster attacks over years. There ultimate goal is to destroy all life in the area so that Narwa's offspring can live in peace (Japanese only). A side affect of this is the Apex phenomenon, particularly strong monsters leading the rampages gaining more strength.

After Ibushi was repelled, the Guild spent time trying to locate his queen and eliminating her. A group of hunters was sent to slay Narwa, but she killed them all leaving the player hunter as the only one who can stop her. It was also revealed that Narwa was in control of Minoto. Narwa was first seen at her nest in the Coral Palace, she does not appear in any waves of Rampages unlike her king. During her initial fight, she will demonstrate her mastery over electricity like firing electric rings and orbs, consecutive beams and a blast that covers the entire area.

Sometimes, she create stones with weapons on them, allowing hunters to use them to attack Narwa. Once Narwa gets defeated, unlike Ibushi who flies away, Narwa falls to the ground, creating a wide, deep hole like Ibushi did in his second battle, and disappears. Kamura celebrated Narwa's supposed demise, but when Master Utsushi returned to find Narwa's corpse, any trace of her was gone. During the party, Ibushi who was possessing Hinoa and Narwa who was possessing Minoto were conspiring to meet and destroy everthing so that their offspring could live in paradise.

After the 3.0 update, Narwa later meets Ibushi again sometimes after her battle, her second battle also takes place at the Coral Palace. However, she does not battle the hunters on the ground, instead, she stays underground while Ibushi stays above ground, making Ibushi seems like guarding Narwa. When Ibushi is defeated, he falls to the ground and creates a deep hole, leading both Ibushi and the hunter to where Narwa dwells. For some reasons, Narwa later bit Ibushi and slams him to the ground, putting an end to the life of her "king", absorbing his power, and making her the variant known as Narwa the Allmother.

With this new found power, Narwa's electrical attacks are even stronger than before and she now has access to Ibushi's wind attacks. She also gains a new super move where she controls multiple draginators at the same time before creating a blast that covers the zone. Around midway through the fight a Magnamalo, Teostra, or Kushala Daora will come aid the hunter, dealing some damage to Narwa and allowing the hunter to wyvern ride it. After Narwa is slain for good, Kamura celebrates once again since the calamity has finally ended.

In a letter that Kagero had written for Yamogi and Tadori, he hinted that either Narwa or Ibushi was responsible for destroying Tsukito Village, the place they hailed from. However, it’s later revealed that Amatsu, another storm-related Elder Dragon, was the one actually responsible for the carnage.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Float: Like Ibushi, Narwa can also stay afloat in the air, and mostly attacks while staying afloat.
  • Thunder attacks: Narwa can also use many kinds of Thunder attacks.
  • Wind attacks: After absorbing Ibushi's energy, she gained access to his wind abilities. Narwa's wind powers are arguably stronger than Ibushi's due to her ability to control multiple dragonators at once.

Trivia[]

  • Thunder Serpent Narwa's 'personality' is different between the English version and the Japanese version as the former is unhinged and revealed to be completely sociopathic with desires to cause mass destruction and intending to use her offspring for the same purposes while the latter is genuinely affable and see's destruction as a necessity for her offspring to thrive.
  • Thunder Serpent Narwa was ranked 210th place in the 20th Anniversary Hunters' Choice poll, making her the least popular Elder Dragon. Ironically, her Allmother form got 153rd place, placing significantly higher than her normal form.
