~ Tigress to Barbara Whitmore

Paula Brooks, also known as Tigress was a major character in The CW and DC Universe series Stargirl.

Paula is the wife of Larry Crock/Sportsmaster and the mother of Artemis Crock. She worked as a gym coach at Blue Valley High School while secretly being a member Injustice Society of America (ISA). In the third and final season, Paula and Larry are killed by former ISA leader Icicle.

She was portrayed by Joy Osmanski.

History[]

Backstory[]

Paula was one of the ISA's most talented fighters (matched only by her husband, Sportsmater of course) and assisted them in attacking the Justice Society of America (JSA) at their headquarters on Christmas Eve. After the villains succeeded in killing most of their enemies, Paula reluctantly became a gym teacher at Blue Valley High School where her daughter, Artemis was a star football player.

One night, Paula along with Crusher confronted Artemis' football coach and killed him for benching their daughter during practice. They then buried the body in the woods before being approached by Icicle who instructs both of them to finish cleaning up their mess and get their suits ready for their next assignment which excites them both. While helping the Gambler obtain the satellite codes needed to complete Project New America, Paula as Tigress fights Stargirl, Wildcat and Hourman alongside her husband only to be driven off by S.T.R.I.P.E.. Tigress later attempts to kill Courtney's mother, Barbara Whitmore while in the latter's home only to be defeated by Stargirl and kills Anaya Bowin for insulting her daughter. During the ISA's final confrontation with the new Justice Society, Paula is knocked out by Stargirl and is incarcerated along with Larry for their past crimes.

Starting over in Blue Valley and Death[]

In the season 2 finale, the Crocks are released from jail and move in next door to Courtney and her family much to their surprise.

In the third and final season, Paula adjusts to life as an ordinary civilian with Barbara's help and the two become friends. Her and Larry also assist the JSA in their investigation into the Gambler's death and find the person responsible for spying on Blue Valley's citizens until they are killed by Icicle. Their deaths are avenged three months later when Artemis tracks Icicle down and burns him to death with a highly flammable liquid her father had used in his hockey pucks.

Personality[]

Much like her husband, Paula is an extreme exercise enthusiast and a woman of action. In particular, she seems to show an extreme drive for the victory that bleeds over into her civilian life, looking down on non-athletic students and even willing to use threats as well as murder to ensure victory for relatively minor things such as high school sports. In spite of her murderous nature, Paula shows a great amount of love and pride in her daughter, seemingly always boasting about her accomplishments whenever possible. This love extends equally to her husband, who she is shown to have a very strong bond to, mainly due to their shared love of violence.

Victims[]

  • Artemis' Football Coach
  • Security Gauard
  • Anaya Bowin
  • Numerous Others
