~ Tilda |
Tilda, also known as The Iron Rabbit, is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Bajie) of the AMC series Into the Badlands.
She is the adoptive daughter and Regent of the Widow, one of the most powerful Barons in the post-apocalyptic wasteland known as the Badlands. While generally portrayed as a heroic character, Tilda is ordered to commit various atrocities under the Widow's command, and eventually becomes disillusioned from her mothers cause and abandons her altogether.
She was portrayed by Ally Ioannides.
Appearance[]
Tilda is a young adult who keeps her hair short, befitting the appearance of Clippers who serve the Widow. She initially wears the same outfit as all of the other Butterfly Clippers, a blue robe with black edges. Later, the Widow makes Tilda her Regent, changing her outfit from the blue Butterfly robes to a black suit, similar to the one the Widow herself wears.
After abandoning the Widow and becoming the Iron Rabbit, Tilda's outfit changed to become a combination of orange and green fabrics. Her outfit also appeared to be thicker and include several more layers.
Personality[]
Tilda is shown to be a generally kind-hearted person, but has a great capacity for violence and volatile anger that comes out when she faces those who hurt innocent people. This rage is shown to be a product of Tilda's origin as a Cog slave, and being sexually abused by the Widow's husband, who ruled the Butterfly Territory before the Widow. Her undying loyalty to the Widow comes from the Widow killing her husband, showing that Tilda will follow and be extremely grateful towards those who do something for her. Tilda becomes one of them main pioneers in the Widow's quest to rid the world of the Cog slave trade, often leading to Tilda trying to justify some of the Widow's much more extreme actions with the fact that her end goal would make the world a better place. Unlike the Widow, who is shown several times to be a misandrist who dislikes men, Tilda instead has no qualms killing men or women, instead having rage towards those who enslave and abuse others, not caring if they are a man or a woman. Tilda could also be easily swayed by the Widow, who would often justify doing terrible things with the fact that they were trying to rid the world of people like the former Baron, despite the Butterflies often being ordered to kill innocent people.
Tilda slowly becomes disillusioned from the Widow's cause overtime. The first division between the two is the Widow's treatment of M.K., a boy that Tilda develops a romance with. The Widow wishes to use him as a weapon due to him possessing supernatural abilities, but Tilda doesn't like the idea of him being forced to follow them against his will. The second issue is that despite the Widow not participating in the Cog slave trade, her war with Baron Chau requires her to send several teenagers and young adults to die on the battlefield, making her territory not really a safe place for refugees to be in due to the constant conflict. The tipping point comes when a woman named Veil and her newborn son Henry, who are seeking refuge from Baron Quinn, having previously been holding them hostage. The Widow had struck an alliance with Quinn, and as part of the deal between the two of them, the Widow has Veil and Henry returned to Quinn. This outrages Tilda, as Quinn is a man who would own Cog slaves and sexually abuse women whenever he liked, meaning an alliance between him and the Widow went against everything they stood for. After trading Veil and Henry back to him, Tilda abandons the Widow for good, realizing that power and control had changed her and turned her into another tyrant. While the Widow does eventually change her ways and the two reconcile, Tilda never returns to being the Widow's regent, but ultimately did still care about her, being willing to take a stab wound for her when M.K. attempted to murder the Widow.

Powers & Abilities[]
- Martial Arts/Swordsmanship: Tilda displays great proficiency in combat, capable of taking down opponents who outmatch her in size and strength. Initially, she is outmatched by one of Quinn's Colts, a Clipper in training, due to Quinn's training style being significantly more brutal and animalistic, but as time went on Tilda begins to fight with more precision and speed, allowing her to overcome opponents who fight only with rage. By the end of the series, Tilda was able to defeat multiple opponents at once, and was even able to briefly hold off those who possessed the Gift.
- Leadership: As the Iron Rabbit, Tilda led multiple refugee camps to help those who have been hurt during the war between the Widow and Baron Chau. Trivia[]
- Tilda alludes to the Jade Rabbit Spirit from the 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West, of which Into the Badlands is loosely based on.
- Her "Iron Rabbit" persona also has parallels to the character of Robin Hood from English Folklore.
- It is safe to assume that Tilda did not die after being stabbed by M.K. in the Season 3 finale, as she is last seen being taken to a healer by the Widow and Gaius Chau. The only reason her fate is left uncertain is due to the series being cancelled. Had a fourth season been made, it is highly likely that Tilda would have survived rather than dying off-screen.
- Tilda is the only main protagonist in the series who did not at some point possess the Gift.
