“ | But if I ever find that missing Titan, I'll hunt it down, tear it limb from limb, and mount its head in pride as we release the Huntsman! Then... we can finally go from being Titan Trappers to Titan Slayers! | „ |
~ Bill the Elder revealing what the Trappers really want. |
The Titan Trappers are major antagonists in the Disney Channel series The Owl House, serving as the main antagonists of the Season 2 episode "Edge of the World".
They are a cult of witches who helped the Collectors wipe out the Titans by disguising as them, and now seek to kill the last one themselves so they could be given glory and "free" their deity, the Grand Huntsman, unaware that the person they would free is a different Collector.
History[]
As revealed in the second episode of the show's third season, "For the Future", the Collectors were a race of celestial beings who were dedicated to preserving certain species on planets they watched over. However, they were known to "clean their planets and scorch their air” if a species were to "meddle in their affairs". Eventually, they came across the Demon Realm where they met a species known as the Titans and waged war against them due to their magic being powerful enough to cancel out theirs.
Eventually, they came across the various witches and demons that lived in the Demon Realm and recruited a number of them into their war as the Titan Trappers, who would "trap" Titans so that the Collectors could finish them off. During this, a Collector known as The Grand Huntsman would become the cult's god. Over the years, the Collectors and Trappers slowly killed off each and every Titan, with the one exception being King Clawthorne, who was hidden by his father before he could be found.
Later on, a witch called simply Bill became the leader of the Trappers due to seeing a Titan with his own eyes and seemingly meeting the Huntsman. Somehow, Bill learned that a Collector is trapped within the In-Between Realm and needs the help of a Titan to be freed. Mistaking him for the Huntsman, Bill reveals this to his people while lying that they will all be rewarded with power and glory, secretly planning to steal it all for himself.
In the end of "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door," a seeming demon resembling King named Tarak gives Hooty a letter addressed to King Clawthorne. However, Hooty ate the letter only to regurgitate it in "Edge of the World."
Leaving the Boiling Isles, Luz, King, and Hooty travel to a different Titan where they then interact with the Titan Trappers. While Luz and Hooty go to request to Bill to use an army to fight against Emperor Belos and avert the Day of Unity, they realize that King was a Titan all along and that the Titan Trappers were intent on sacrificing any Titan that they came across. Bill recognizes King as a Titan and immediately signals everyone to start the sacrifice.
Before King is killed by a dagger, Luz uses an anti-gravity glyph to suspend Bill leading to them fighting the other members. King at first tries to intervene in the fighting until he learns that all the members of the cult were wearing costumes the entire time.
After learning that he was the last of his kind, King and the others escape the island and destroy the portal so they couldn't follow.
It was later shown, during "Watching and Dreaming", that The Collector somehow captured both Bill and Tarak and turned them into puppets to torture King in his nightmares, implying that they may have traveled to the Boiling Isles or that The Collector visited them, but besides that, the ultimate fate of the cult is unknown.
Trivia[]
- As seen in "For the Future", the Collectors were originally the ones who used to disguise as Titans to hunt them, something that inspired the current Titan Trappers to do the same.
- In "Echoes of the Past" various murals seen in King's castle allude to the Titan Trappers, King mistakenly thought these murals represented his father. Some of these murals were likely also created by the Titans or Collectors themselves.
- Probably these murals were carved by the same Trappers, as these depict them in a heroic and "glorious" way and the Titans as monsters.
- One of these murals also appears as a painting on the Archives House, but colorized and in higher quality.
- Due to the colossal size of an adult Titan, it is likely that the Titan skulls worn by the Titan Trappers as part of their disguises are of younger Titans. Furthermore, it's later confirmed that the skulls the Trappers wear (along with the ones at Bill's altar) are the skulls of King's dead siblings.
- Despite this, Tarak's Titan disguise resembles that of an adult Titan. While it's possible that some types of Titan had wings as juveniles, the Boiling Isles Titan's much smaller (but still large compared to Luz) size as a spirit could indicate that Titans adopted a smaller, witch-sized form when alive, which the Trappers imitated.
- While the organization is all about trapping and hunting the Titans, the modern Trappers, the ones seen in the series, were said to never have seen a real Titan alive, this is the reason why none of them recognized King as one until Bill saw him.
- That being said, it's also unknown if Bill has truly seen a living Titan until King as he claims that the last living Titan blew his eardrums out, though King only hatched 8 years before the series and only got his sonic powers in "Knock, Knock, Knockin' on Hooty's Door". While this could mean Bill just saw King's father, he's also seen reading a book called "The Last Titan: A History of the Boiling Isles", which could imply Bill took elements from the book to make up traits about the Titans.
- As multiple posts depicting the Collector's spies are seen on Penstagram, it's likely that the Titan Trappers came to the Isles after seeing these posts to pay homage to their god, probably being turned into puppets after they tried to kill King.
