Biography[]
Early life[]
Askari was born in Tikrit, Iraq, and orphaned at a young age. While living on the street, he was repeatedly sexually abused by several predatory men, with the abuse molding him into a sociopath who took pleasure in torture and murder; by the time he was 13, he had already killed three people. He was highly intelligent, however, and managed to join the Iraqi Republican Guard as a young man, which gave him the opportunity to torture and kill people and get paid for it. He was ultimately thrown out of the Guard, however, after his superiors caught him torturing detainees for fun.
He started working for the U.S. State Department in 2010 as an interrogation specialist and interpreter for Operation Classified, which helped locate Osama bin Laden. He worked alongside FBI agents Jennifer Jareau and Mateo Cruz, formerly of the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), as well as then-Bureau Chief Erin Strauss and CIA analyst Michael Hastings. Once again, Askari used his job as an excuse to torture detainees. He also murdered detainees Savin and Nadia Mubari, as well as their young daughter, the latter being a hostage being held by the terrorist regime that he was secretly working for.
Eventually, however, Jareau, Cruz, and Strauss discovered Askari's treason, and he fled the country along with Hastings, who was also a traitor, during an ambush on the task force. They began working for the terrorist regime in the open, while nursing homicidal grudges against their former colleagues. Three years later, the regime tasked Askari and Hastings with stealing codes to Integrity, a database containing information about Operation Classified, so they began planning to kidnap and torture Jareau and Cruz, Strauss having since died, in order to recover the codes and get revenge at the same time.
"200"[]
Askari and Hastings kidnap Jareau and Cruz, and Askari tortures them to get them to reveal the codes, to no avail. Determined to break Jareau, Askari dry-fires a pistol at Cruz, making her believe he is dead. Jareau still refuses to talk, however, so Askari switches tactics and tells Cruz he will kill her unless he persuades her to give up the codes. Fearing for Jareau's life, Cruz tells her to give Askari what he wants.
Hastings then threatens to rape Jareau unless Cruz gives up his codes, which he reluctantly does. While Hastings begins downloading the data, Askari murders one of their accomplices and stabs Cruz in front of Jareau in a brutal show of force. Just as Askari is about to kill Jareau, however, the BAU bursts into their hideout, having found it with help from Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia. Supervisory Agent Aaron Hotchner shoots Askari twice, killing him, while Hastings falls to his death while running from Jareau and fellow BAU Agent Emily Prentiss.
Other appearances[]
One year later, in "The Forever People", Jareau has a PTSD-induced flashback of the torture she suffered at Askari's hands. She sees him in a hallucination, in which he taunts her that he merely "bent" her, and that he had planned to do far worse things to her before the BAU interrupted him. Jareau accused him of causing the miscarriage she suffered as a result of the ambush he orchestrated. He replies that he will take everything from her, until she either kills herself or lives the rest of her life in misery. He then vanishes as the hallucination ends. Ultimately, however, Jareau decides to get help, and conquers her demons.
