Tjoffsan is a minor character of Astrid Lindgren's 1949 book Nils Karlsson Pyssling and the main antagonist of it's adaptions. She's a rat that rents out a room for Nils and threatens to either throw him out or bite him to death if he does not pay in time.
Biography[]
She rents out her home to Nils aka Nisse to provide shelter while she was temporarily moving away to her sister but reminds him to pay for rent, which Nils does not have. While she's gone Nisse and the lonely Bertil redecorate the room to make it more comfortable. Her fate in the book is unknown but unlike the movie she's not an antagonist.
In the movie she didn't depart but often frightens Nils by lurking around, the first time Nils tells Bertil about her presence. At one point she tries steal meatballs but gets caught by Tusse but escapes.
Tjoffsan came back and realized Nils didn't pay for the rent and tries breaking in. Nils and Bertil tricks Tjoffsan into getting some cheese near the magic nail, the rat believes them and heads there only to be shrunken and eventually eaten by the neighbor's cat Tusse.
In the CGI-christmas short, she was instead offered a piece of cheese by Bertil to make up for attacking her earlier and to allow Nils to stay in his home. At first she was doubtful but then agrees to let him stay and accepts the offer to share with her mate.
Trivia[]
- She was only named in the movie and is only an antagonist there.
