~ Gregson regarding his fabrication of evidence. |
Tobias Gregson is a major anti-villainous supporting protagonist in The Great Ace Attorney duology. He was one of the police detectives of Scotland Yard during Ryunosuke Naruhodo and Susato Mikotoba's trip to England and the investigator of many of their cases. He also became the mentor to Gina Lestrade. However, he secretly was an accomplice of the Reaper conspiracy, being the one that planned the killings of the defendants that were acquitted during trials where Barok Van Zieks was the prosecutor.
He also was friends with Barok Van Zieks, but they got estranged after the Professor Killings case was seemingly resolved. While they still worked together afterwards, he was secretly investigating him and learned that he was involved with the Reaper conspiracy.
History[]
Past[]
He was a friend of Klint Van Zieks and his brother Barok. He previously assisted them by investigating the cases and preparing the forensic evidence for them. He celebrated with them after Barok was accepted as a prosecutor.
After Genshin Asogi murdered Klint, Mael Stronghart convinced him to help him frame him to take him to justice. To do so, Tobias led an attack on Genshin and Barok in order to steal Gensgin's ring and plant it as found in Klint's stomach to make the situation look like Klint swallowed it to expose his killer. Tobias genuinely thought that Genshin Asogi was behind the Professor Killings and that Klint was his last victim, but in reality Genshin only killed Klint and it was because despite suspicious evidence Stronghart did not allow him to research the case.
As part of his framing plan, he pressured for Klint's autopsy to be allowed even if at the time doing them in a noble was considered sacrilegious. Then, he gave Dr. John Wilson the ring so he could fake to find it in his stomach even if due to its nature it would have caused internal injuries there. After Genshin was wrongly convicted as the Professor, he worked with Asa Shinn to get defendants acquitted in trials where Barok was the defendant
After Daley Vigil was scapegoated and fired from Barclay Prison due to Genshin's escape, Gregson hired him to impersonate him by carrying his ID and shouting to be Inspector Gregson in part to get an alibi and in part to help him in the hardship of unfairly losing his job.
Due to being an acquaintance of Herlock Sholmes, Iris Wilson included him as a recurring detective in The Adventures of Herlock Sholmes. When he encountered Iris he was compliant to her in order to protect his reputation.
Ryunosuke and Susato's cases[]
He met Ryunosuke Naruhodo and Susato Mikotoba while they were investigating for the trial of Soseki Natsume for the assault of Olive Green. He refused to help them, but he later agreed to let them investigate after they delivered him a note by Iris.
The case was resolved, but Soseki Natsume was accused again, this time of attempted murder of William Shamspeare. Gregson also participated in that case.
