Tohru Mutou is a major antagonist in Shiki.
Though he regretted his sins and was often seen crying about it, he never tried to change it and kept on murdering people. He also selfishly kills his best friend Natsuno, simply because he'd rather bring himself to do it than let Megumi Shimizu be the one to kill him. It's left up to the viewer to decide whether or not Tohru is a villain in the show, but some of the things he does really lead on to believe that he is one.
He was voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto in the Japanese version, and by Chris Burnett in the English dubbed version.
Biography[]
Tohru was a nice type of guy with cheerful bright personality and lots of friends. His closest friend in the village was Natsuno Yuuki whom he spent a lot of time with. One night, he meets Tatsumi whom he invites home and then the next night enters his backyard. Tatsumi and Megumi Shimizu's crimson eyes peered through the window and kept Natsuno awake the whole time before Megumi enters the house. As she enters Tohru's room, she says how much she hates him for getting closer to Yuuki than her and coldly kills him. Natsuno checks up on him the next morning, traumatised from the experience hoping it was just a dream. Altough Tohru seemed fine at first, he dies later the same day. At Tohru's funeral, everyone was devestated. Natsuno and Masao ended up having a fight where Natsuno kept calm so Masao got kicked out which leaves him distressed.
Resurrection[]
Tohru rises several days later after his death. He seemed to not be able to accept the new life he was given and was often seen crying in the woods. When he gets ordered to kill his best friend Natsuno for being aware of their existance, Tohru hesitates. Tatsumi blackmails Tohru if he doesn't kill Natsuno, he will kill his whole family. Megumi and Tohru get into a fight over who's going to be the one to kill Natsuno and it ends up being Tohru in the end as he'd rather do it himself than let Megumi be the one to do it. He later on regrets it greatly.
Death[]
After Ritsuko rises from death, shortly after the hunt on the shikis breaks out. He tries to force Ritsuko to kill another nurse whom she was friends with in her former life because otherwise she won't be able to be let free to escape but she refuses. Tohru ends up freeing the nurse and sits down besides Ritsuko, holding hands. They later on get staked by a group of villagers. Natsuno actually sees their dead bodies near the end of the show, as he himself also rises as a Jinrou before also blowing himself up in a fight with Tatsumi.
