~ Tom Pulinski's betrayal as he detonates the dynamites placed around the facility, leaving Rob to die. |
Tom Pulinski is the secondary antagonist of the Roblox story game Alone - A Singleplayer Adventure.
He is a scientist at Epicorp Industries who is known to be one of the two lead scientists of Project Lime Recovery, an experiment on a meteor that crashed on Earth and saw the discovery of potential alien life, a species named the Gorliks. He first appears as a major ally to the player, but throughout the game, he is seen killing his own partner and other lead scientist Rick Lambert for a petty reason, simply due to the fact he wasn't happy that he dropped the project due to the risk of the researched aliens to humanity being too high, and eventually reveals his true colors when he sets off the dynamites that Robert Harrison had placed around the facility and leaves the latter to die. However, Rob later catches up to him and kills him for his treachery.
Appearance[]
Tom Pulinski is a young man with black hair, an Epicorp lab coat, a purple shirt, dark beige pants and black shoes.
Personality[]
At first, Tom Pulinski seems to act trustful towards his friend Rick Lambert and conducts the Project Lime Recovery along with him. However, he is annoyed when his friend abandons the project due to potential risk to humanity and doesn't hesitate to kill him for a petty reason like that. He is also helpful to Robert Harrison, helping him on finding a way to take down the Gorlik Alien, but he eventually reveals that his father teached him not to trust a "crazy man with a gun", ultimately betraying Rob and escaping to the surface himself as he detonates the dynamite he had Rob place around the facility, showing how traitorous he is.
Biography[]
In 2023, he and Rick Lambert saw a strange meteor crashing in Egypt and, seeing how it had green sludge around it, conducted a project named Project Lime Recovery, where they find out that they had discovered a new alien species, bringing several of them into test tubes to do more research.
Three weeks later, one of the aliens escaped from it's tube and was now wandering around the underground facility. Trying to flee from the roaming alien, he hid himself in one of the rooms, inside a large container that trapped him inside. He is then found by Rob who saves him, telling the latter that everyone else other than him in the facility were killed by the alien. The two then conduct a plan to call for help to regain safety on the surface. He then hands over Rob a keycard to unlock the server room so he can have the communications repaired and allow him to send a distress message.
After reactivating the servers, he encounters Rob again in his quarters and tells him about his plan to take down the alien by setting off dynamites around the facility, as it is revealed that said facility was built within a coal mining operation, which also means that there was mining equipement in there as well, including dynamites. He then tells Rob that once they get some of them, he'll be able to make a remote ignition device and set off the dynamites with it to kill the alien and escape back to the surface.
Rob is then surprised how Tom has his own bedroom unlike the other scientist, due to the fact that he is a project lead and therefore having perks that no normal scientist would have. They then have a conversation about Rob's mental episodes, but Tom prefers to go along with the plan instead, as they have to act quickly if they want to escape. He then sends Rob to gather three sticks of dynamites and return to his bedroom once he is done.
As he was returning to Tom's bedroom after getting all three sticks of dynamites, he stumbles upon a room with multiple computers, with one having an active video log that can be played. There, he learns that Rick Lambert, Tom's partner and other lead scientist of Project Lime Recovery, decided to initiate a full termination of the project due to the species' high risk to humanity, much to Tom's disagreement as they were afforded the opportunity of a lifetime, which was researching on potential alien life, and that abandoning the project would be a waste of billions of financial gain. Rick then informs him that he is not here to make money, but due to his dedication to the scientific process and that he was doing what's best for everyone else in the facility. Tom eventually pretends to feel sorry about it and takes out a pistol, threatening Rick at gun point as he plans to tell everyone that he left the project. Rick then accepts his fate and orders Tom to shoot him, which he does, killing him as he backs up and lays on the floor dead. Shocked by this, Rob picks up a nearby pistol and returns to the bunker beds, where he finds the Gorlik Alien holding him hostage.
As Rob prepares to shoot the alien, he is told to keep his ammunition as he would need it later on and then tosses Tom on the beds and on the floor. Nonetheless, after questioning Tom on why he killed Rick, Rob is told that he made a mistake and wanted to apologize for what he did, but he doesn't trust him. Going back to their plan, Rob tells Tom that he found all three sticks of dynamite, to which he is tasked in building the remote ignition device mentioned earlier and set off the dynamite in three rooms: the lab itself, the lab supply room and power supply room, before going in the elevator and escape to the surface. Rob is also informed that by the time he reaches the surface, the life support systems will fail and the alien would die of suffocation, therefore making him a free man.
After placing all dynamites in all three rooms, Rob finds Tom already inside the surface elevator, where the latter reveals that his father teached him to never trust a "crazy man with a gun", betraying Rob and detonating the dynamites placed around to leave him to die within the facility, as he escapes to the surface by himself. However, this would be his final mistake, as Rob successfully managed to escape the mine and reach the surface. Encountered for the final time near the large hole leading to the mine below, he tries to tell Rob that he needed his help to get out of the facility and that he now needs his help, warning him that if he is killed, he would be all alone by himself with his mental breakdowns, going completely mad. However, Rob doesn't want to hear any of it and tells Tom that he is already mad, before pulling the trigger and killing Tom, as he falls down the mine below to his death, giving him a comeuppance for his treachery.
Trivia[]
