Colt...Hey man.
~ Tom Ryder to Colt after finding out he is okay.
DO I DO MY OWN STUNTS?! I THINK I DO!
~ Tom Ryder after killing Henry

Tom Ryder is the main antagonist of Universal's 2024 action comedy film The Fall Guy.

He is the world greatest action star who hates being out staged by anyone. He is set to star in a new movie in order to increase his already huge fame.

He was portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who also played William Rollins in Chatroom, Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ray Marcus in Nocturnal Animals, Tangerine in Bullet Train, (which was also directed by David Leitch) and Kraven the Hunter in the 2024 titular film.

Appearance[]

He has a rugged and athletic build, befitting an action hero. His physique is well-defined, with strong arms and a chiseled jawline. With hair is styled in a slightly messy manner, giving him a rugged yet charismatic look. It’s a dark blonde shade. Whenever he is not on set, he is always wearing a blue and white stripped bath robe showing his abs and golden shades.

Personality[]

Tom Ryder is a narcissistic, egotistic, psychopathic, drug addict and a coward who loves the fame and attention he gets whenever he is on a film, he is constantly rude to the people on the film set specially his stunt double Colt Seavers always insulting him calling ugly despite the fact they almost look the same.

He has a fragile ego and always tries to make himself look better than he already is, often criticizing the movie he is filming if he himself doesn't look cool enough. When his ego feels threatened, he will resort to sabotaging the "threats," yet fails to contemplate the long-term consequences, as well as lacking empathy to appreciate the gravity of his crimes.

As such, he is reluctant to order deaths but is willing to do anything to protect himself and his image; this extends to the point of feeling guiltless about sacrificing Colt's reputation and life; while he was horrified at his accidental manslaughter of Henry, the terror was almost entirely revolved around fear for his own freedom and career, rather than actual concern or regret for his actions.

Biography[]

Past[]

A year before the events of The Fall guy, after seeing that his stunt double Colt Seavers face can be seen on the take of his latest movie he becomes enraged by this and decides to mess up with Colt's rope harness descend speed, making him crash into the floor breaking Colt's back and causing him to quit from stunts.

After Colt quit another stuntman named Henry was assigned to him in order to film Jody's new movie "Metalstorm". However in a party hosted by Ryder after Henry taunts him about doing his own scenes, they ended up fighting with Ryder kicking Henry against some tables causing Henry to break his neck killing him while all is caught on video. Scared that this will destroy his acting career he calls producer Gail Meyer for help, she devices a plan to frame someone else for the murder and orders Ryder to hide.

The Fall Guy[]

After Colt finds out what Ryder did and barely escaping an ambush that leads him to Ryder's yacht. He is captured as Ryder questions him about his cellphone that contains the video of Henry's death. After learning that the cellphone was destroyed in the ambush he orders his bodyguards to kill him but before they could do that he explains to Colt about Gail's plan to frame him with the use of deepfake and reveals the truth of his accident.

Learning that Colt Seavers was apparently killed, Tom returns to the "Metalstorm" set to resume filming.

However Colt survives the attack and with Jody they managed to come up with a plan to make Ryder confess to everything. Jody convinces Ryder to get on a car for a scene before Colt hijacks the car and drives off. With a handcuffed and while wired with a microphone, Colt starts to make insane stunts and drives like crazy in order to make him confess his and Gail's involvement with Henry's death while the rest of the crew, hold off his goons.

Unfortunately Gail manages to get the recording at gunpoint and calls for a helicopter so they could be extracted. Jody helps Colt leap onto the helicopter in mid-air and Colt fights and retrieves the recording, he falls onto a crash mat prepared by his friend Dan. The helicopter crashes as Ryder and Gail leave the wreakage only to be swarmed by police, Gail tries to bride the officers until Ryder reconizes them as part of the prop team causing him to run into a detenation area when he takes out his phone in an attempt to call his lawyer only for the phone to trigger the planted explosives due to them being radio sensitive resulting in his presumed death.

Presumably, postmortem, he is then replaced by Jason Momoa as the lead actor for "Metalstorm"

Since we didn't see a body after the explosion, he probably survived but was seriously injured.
