Tom and Gerry (surnames unknown) are the two main antagonists of the 2015 horror film The Girl in the Photographs. The duo are a pair of stalkers and murderers targeting pretty, young women primarily in the small town of Spearfish, with a signature of Gerry wearing a mask and the two sending snuff pictures to their future victims of people they already killed.

Tom is portrayed by Luke Baines and Gerry is portrayed by Corey Schmitt.

Biography[]

Little to nothing is revealed about the two sadistic serial killers. Tom and Gerry maybe aren't even their real names. The duo are abductors, stalkers, and murderers in a town named Spearhead, primarily fixated on young beautiful women, the favorite MO being sending photos to major victims, photos of previous victims as a start to sadistically terrorizing them before they're next to be killed. They particularly have pensions for wearing mask, Gerry with crying mascara and lipstick marks on it, Tom wearing a plain, beige mask with red smears.

The first known crimes of the team start with a woman named Janet, who gets into her car and drives home after watching a movie with her friend Britney. Tom follows her home in his red Bronco, where she's shocked to find Gerry, in his mask and shirtless, waiting for her. He ties her up and brings her out to her car with Tom, abducting her all the way back to her hideout and taking pictures throughout the whole abduction. After printing the pictures of the crimes Tom and Gerry put Janet through, they choose their next stalking victim, a grocery store woman named Colleen. She finds a picture of a dead, bloody Janet on a bed, stapled to the front door bulletin board. She sees the picture's labeled "7" at the bottom, so she reports it to Sheriff Porter at the station, who says it might not be real and to simply sign a statement and leave.

Peter Hemmings used to live in Spearfish and finds the discussion of the photographs on a blog while staying in LA, assuming the "Dead Model" theme is the intention of the snuff murders. He returns to the town with his entourage, assistant Chris, girlfriend Rose, and two fellow models of Rose's, Victoria and Trip, partly for Hemmings to provide his own consultation in the case. They find Colleen and offer her to come to a party they're hosting at the house they're staying at. Colleen accepts and texts her friend Jill to join her there. Jill's later seen in a cage, placed there by Tom and Gerry. She refuses cat food in a panic for her life, and when the two try to taunt her into taking her cell phone back, she's strangled with a belt. Tom uses her cell to text that she'll be at the party, which later is revealed to mean leaving a photo of her in Colleen's car. The photo shows her dead, disfigured, and missing one of her eyes. The police again don't try top investigate, with little evidence to go on in the case but the photos.

After Colleen gets home and fights with Ben, Ben storms out and is them abducted by the two killers, before one of them breaks into Colleen's home and leaves his wallet behind while she's unaware. Tom later meets her and has a casual conversation with her, but Hemmings comes over and insists she come to LA for a modeling campaign. When she agrees, Tom and Gerry work faster to get her in time, deciding Ben's corpse should be in two bags when Colleen's heading out. Tom and Gerry then reach the house and attack everyone there in a massacre. While flashing cameras at them all, Hemmings is stabbed to death, Rose is killed by a towel wrapped around her neck jerked to break it, and Victoria and Trip are stabbed to death in the hot tub.

When Colleen falls asleep, Chris goes downstairs and finds Rose dead under the towel used to kill her. He calls after Hemmings, the calls 911, but the two killers cut out the power. Chris tries to use the camera's flashes to see in the dark, but Gerry stabs him in his head from behind. Tom holds the door shut to keep Colleen from escaping until the power comes back on. She walks downstairs and sense them arranging all the corpses, except for Janet and Jill. She tries to escape, but Gerry drags her back to the living room. Tom insists she tie her hair back for their next snuff photos. The final scene shows Britney finding the photo at her front door when she's heading to work.

Trivia[]

  • It's possible the two killer's names are a reference to Tom and Jerry, the famous cat-chasing-mouse cartoon, which could relate to the "cat-and mouse games" involved in the crime spree.
  • The movie appears to heavily allude the real life story of Tara Calico, a young woman who went missing and allegedly appear later in a photograph at a store with a young boy, both tied up and gagged with tape. She still hasn't been found.
