“ | Look at you. All of you! You're all too obtuse to see what's going on! You have no idea. Perfect people running around Central Park, picnics in Sheep's Meadow. Always flaunting, always having a wonderful time while I was alone. It's time you all learned your lesson! | „ |
~ Kelly ranting about his hatred of "normies". |
Anthony "Tony" Kelly is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Revenge". He is the self-appointed leader of a community of "incels" (involuntary celibates) who coordinates a spree of rape and murder to punish women for ignoring and rejecting him.
He was portrayed by Steven Maier.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Kelly is a socially inept misogynist and a member of the online "incel" community, regularly writing in incel chatrooms of his hatred of women and more attractive, successful men (calling men "Chads" and women "Staceys", stereotypes of bland, vapid attractiveness).
He was raised by his emotionally abusive, alcoholic mother after his father abandoned the family. In high school, a female classmate named Carol Solomon, upon whom he had an obsessive crush, did not return his call asking her out. He never got over her supposed rejection and fantasized about punishing her and all other "Staceys" for years afterwards.
As an adult, he studied poetry in graduate school, while still living with his mother.
"Revenge"[]
When he learns that Carol has moved back to New York City with her fiancé, John Quinn, he devises a plant to "trade rapes" with his friends and fellow incels Chris Carnasis and Riley Porter. They would rape Carol and kill John, while he would rape the women they hated and kill their boyfriends, all to prevent the police from connecting the crimes.
Kelly, Porter, and Carnasis each attack the women whom they feel have wronged them, along with their male partners, while calling them "Chad" and "Stacy". Kelly is particularly brutal, killing Carole's boyfriend, John, after raping her. The NYPD's Special Victims Unit investigate the rapes and discover the existence of the plot between the three men. They arrest Porter and Carnasis, who inform on Kelly in return for reduced sentences.
When SVU Lieutenant Olivia Benson and Assistant District Attorney Peter Stone question Kelly, they bring in Carol, who demands to know why he attacked her and John. Kelly angrily retorts that she brought the assault on herself by ignoring his messages, a rejection that he claims ruined his life. Confused, Carol says that she does not know him, and never received any messages from him. Kelly calls her a liar, and even recites the phone number he had dialed. Through tears, Carol says that was never her phone number, meaning that Kelly had dialed the wrong number, and so raped her and killed John for nothing. Carol calls Kelly an evil man, as he is led away, speechless.
Kelly's cohorts were subsequently imprisoned for rape, while Kelly was given a life sentence for rape and murder.
