Antonio Raimundo "Tony" Montana is the main protagonist of the 1983 epic crime drama film Scarface, which is a loose remake of the 1932 film Scarface: The Shame of the Nation.
Once a humble refugee from Cuba searching for a life while trying to make it big in life and in the city of Miami, Tony Montana eventually climbed the ranks of the criminal underworld to become one of the most powerful drug kingpins in Miami; to that extent he himself is arguably one of the most iconic villains in all of film history and another cultural icon for Miami as well as one of Al Pacino most famous roles yet.
In the film, he was portrayed by Al Pacino, who also played Michael Corleone in The Godfather Trilogy, Carlito Brigante in Carlito's Way, and Jimmy Hoffa in The Irishman.
In the video games Scarface: The World is Yours, he was voiced by André Sogliuzzo, who also voiced fake Tony Montana in Payday 2, Carlo Falcone and Luca Gurino in Mafia II, and all Khajiit males in Skyrim.
Biography[]
Scarface[]
In May 1980, Tony Montana is an ex-convict and Cuban refugee who arrives in Miami as part of the Mariel boatlift; he is joined by his best-friend Manny Ribera along with their two companions, Angel and Chi-Chi, respectively.
Soon enough Miami drug lord Frank Lopez arranges green cards for them in exchange for killing a former henchman for Fidel Castro. Unhappy with their jobs as restaurant dishwashers, Tony and Manny meet with Frank's right-hand man, Omar Suarez, who sends the four to buy cocaine from a Colombian gang led by their ringleader Hector the Toad. When the four arrive, however, Tony and Angel are taken at gunpoint; Tony is made to watch as Hector kills Angel by dismembering with a chainsaw. Tony is about to meet the same fate when Manny and Chi-Chi barge in to rescue them. They eliminate the Colombian dealers in a gunfight and Tony personally murders Hector with his Beretta Cheetah to avenge Angel's murder. Suspecting Omar set them up, Tony delivers the money and drugs to Frank in person.
From then onwards Tony and Manny start working for Frank, during which Tony gets acquainted with Frank's wife Elvira and becomes romantically attracted to her. Sometime later Tony visits his younger sister Gina and their estranged mother Georgina at their house. Tony gives his mother $1,000, claiming he earns money as a political organizer, but she sees through the lie and disowns him; Gina nevertheless keeps the money at Tony's urging. When Manny picks him up there, he becomes attracted to Gina and contemplates her but Tony promptly warns him to stay away from her.
It is then Frank sends Tony and Omar to Bolivia to meet cocaine kingpin Alejandro Sosa over a supposed partnership between them. Omar is angered when Tony seeks to negotiate a large deal without Frank's approval. Sosa has his men hang Omar from a helicopter, telling Tony that Omar is a police informant and that Frank has poor judgment for trusting him. Tony says he never trusted Omar and in turn Sosa agrees to the deal, but not before warning Tony never to betray him.
Tony sets up his own cocaine operation. However, Mel Bernstein, a corrupt detective on Frank's payroll, attempts to extort Tony for police protection. While at a club, Tony finds Gina about to have sex with a man in a bathroom and assaults them both, before having Manny drive her home. Tony then escapes an attempt on his life by two hitmen in a shootout. He confronts Frank and Mel over the attack, forcing Frank to confess that he set it up. Tony has Manny shoot Frank dead, before shooting Mel himself. Frank's bodyguard, Ernie, witnesses this; he sweats bullets as Tony turns to him, only for Tony to give him a job as his new bodyguard. Tony eventually marries Elvira and becomes the distributor of Sosa's product, constructing a large, heavily guarded estate to oversee his rapidly growing empire.
In 1983, Tony is caught in a sting operation, set up by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and charged with money laundering and tax evasion. Sosa offers to keep Tony out of prison via his government connections if Tony helps assassinate a journalist about to expose Sosa. During a restaurant dinner, a drunken Tony blames Manny for his arrest and calls Elvira an infertile junkie, prompting Elvira to call out his criminality to the other patrons and leave him. Sosa's henchmen, Alberto the Shadow, puts a radio-controlled bomb under the journalist's car, and they follow it, with Ernie and Chi-Chi in the backseat. However, Tony tries to cancel the hit upon seeing the journalist accompanied by his wife and two children. The Shadow refuses to back down, so Tony kills him before he can detonate the bomb. Sosa vows revenge for Tony allowing the journalist to deliver the exposé.
Tony, high on cocaine, tracks down Gina at his mother's behest. When he finds Gina with Manny at the latter's house, Tony shoots him dead, before a devastated Gina says that she'd just married him. A grief-stricken Tony has his men take Gina to his estate, and he begins a cocaine binge in his office. As Sosa's men invade the estate and begin killing the guards, Gina accuses Tony of wanting her for himself. She shoots and wounds his arm, and is then gunned down by one of Sosa's men, who'd snuck in via the window. Tony kills him in turn with his Uzi, whilst the assassins kill all of Tony's associates, including Ernie and Chi-Chi. Seeking vengeance, Tony opens fire on the group using an AR15A1 equipped with an M203 grenade launcher, killing many of them but sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. As he taunts his attackers, Sosa's enforcer, the Skull, shoots him in the back with a Zabala and kills him. Tony's body falls off the balcony and into a pool near the base of a statue displaying the motto "The World Is Yours."
Tony's death
The World Is Yours[]
In a point of divergence from the film, Tony detects and kills the Skull just in time. With the assistance of some of his surviving employees, Tony manages to overpower Sosa's men, barely escaping the grounds as the Drug Enforcement Administration and Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office arrive. One of Sosa's men calls him after the attack, saying that Tony's mansion is being seized by law enforcement, his drug empire is reduced to nothing, and Tony himself is most likely dead. Meanwhile, hiding in a safe house in the Miami everglades, Tony laments the deaths of his sister Gina and his friend Manny, curses himself for not listening to the advice of others due to his stubbornness, decides to quit cocaine, and vows revenge on Sosa.
Three months later, in March 1984, Tony returns to Miami. All of his assets have been frozen, and the districts of Miami he used to dominate have been divided among other cartels. His first act is to ask George Sheffield, a criminal defense lawyer, to become his attorney again. Sheffield reluctantly agrees but at a higher wage than before. He next travels to see his old friend and contact Felix, who tells him Sosa is working with fellow crime boss Gaspar Gomez to take over all of Tony's old turf. To rebuild his empire, Tony must first make enough money to buy his mansion from the Vice Squad, but he doesn't know any trustworthy drug dealers, as most report back to Sosa now. Felix tells him to speak to a waitress named Coco; she puts Tony in touch with some dealers with no ties to Sosa. Within a day, Tony earns enough cash to buy back his mansion and begins to slowly re-establish his name.
He reconnects with his original banker Jerry, who has since been promoted and although he feels unsafe, he has faith in Tony and agrees to work with him again. Tony then proceeds to take over Little Havana, claiming all of its businesses and turfs, severely weakening the Diaz Cartel. While taking a break at the Babylon Club, Tony is attacked by assassins sent by the Diaz Brothers. One assassin informs Tony that his mother has been slain. Tony murders the Diaz Brothers in retaliation and takes their territory. One of Sheffield's associates, Pablo, lures Tony to Freedom Town with the promise of information on his missing ex-wife Elvira.
However, this meeting turns out to be an ambush, but Tony survives. After killing Pablo during a speedboat chase, he adds Sheffield to his hit-list. Tony takes Downtown from the Contreras cartel. He allies with the Sandman, a coke producer in a set of Caribbean islands south of Miami. He finds Nacho Contreras there as well, controlling a floating casino. After a chase through said boat, a wounded Nacho is eaten by a shark. After this, Tony slaughters what is left of the Contreras Cartel, seizing control of another tanker belonging to Nacho, which he used to smuggle drugs into Miami. Tony uses the new ship and various ex-Nacho workers to establish a supply line.
Tony slowly takes North and South Beach districts from Gomez, fulfilling the various business missions and conquering the storehouses. He now controls Miami, however his supply lines are weak. The Sandman says he is going to war with the Colombians. Tony assists and drives the enemy's influence from the Islands. However, before he can celebrate, the Colombians take over Tranquilandia, a small island that is owned by the Sandman, and a crucial drugs base for the Montana Cartel. Tony takes it back, killing the Colombians, rescuing the Sandman's workers, and preventing the Colombians from seizing the cocaine there. Finally, everything is clear on the Islands. The Montana Cartel's power rises and Tony Montana becomes even wealthier and more powerful than ever before. Finally, he has gathered the strength to destroy Sosa, and heads to Bolivia.
Meanwhile, Sosa is hosting a sit-down in his exotic mansion. Sheffield and Gomez are there, discussing the problem of Montana. The man himself crashes the meeting. Tony moves through the grounds, killing Sosa's security detail before going to proceed in executing both Sheffield and Gomez on respective occasions. Tony then confronts Sosa in his living room and they discuss the situation from the movie where Tony refused to kill children. A gunfight then ensues and Tony wins by shooting Sosa multiple times, finally killing him and fulfilling his revenge. On his way out, Tony finds one of Sosa's men still alive. The survivor begs for his life on the basis of his family and Tony offers him a job. The game ends with that surviving henchman now serving as Tony's butler (who Tony refers to him as "Manny", in honor of his late friend and right-hand man, Manny Ray), Venus as his new wife and Tony's empire restored to full power and wealth. Tony finally has the "world" that he felt was coming to him, and with all competition eliminated, the Montana Cartel is the most powerful drug cartel of the 1980's Miami to date.

Payday 2[]
| “ | Very little is known about this character, but he seems to bear an uncanny resemblance to the 1980’s Miami drug lord Tony Montana. Tony Montana was a Cuban petty delinquent who moved to Miami and worked himself up to the top of the criminal food chain, only to be consumed by hubris (and cocaine) and paint himself into a corner caught between the law and the drug cartels. He ended up being assassinated by the Sosa Cartel. | „ |

In Payday 2, he serves as an overarching protagonist for the Scarface Heist.
