You know what, you lot deserve each other. You're pathetic!
~ Tony ranting at everyone after Liz humiliates him as revenge for his affair with Tracy Barlow.

Tony Stewart was an anti-hero in the British Soap Opera Coronation Street. He is the father of Jason Grimshaw, who was a guest character in 2003, before appearing from 2014 to 2015 as a regular part of the cast. Although he could be crooked and not a good father in the past, Tony still cared for his son and was protective of him.

Alan Igbon originally played the role in 2003, then it was taken over by Terence Maynard in 2014.

Biography[]

Tony Stewart had a brief relationship with Eileen Grimshaw in the early 1980s, which resulted in the birth of their son Jason. However Tony wasn't active much in his son's life, forcing Eileen to act as mother and father to their son. Two-years after Jason's birth she had another brief relationship with an unknown man, resulting in the birth of her second son Todd.

Tony first appeared in the show in March 2003 when he crossed paths with Jason when at the Rovers Return Inn on Coronation Street. When Tony got injured, he moved into Eileen's and later stole from her workplace, allowing her to take the blame. However Jason worked out it was Tony and got the money back, and cleared his mother's name. Regardless of this incident, Tony still kept in contact with Jason, but only by phone call.

Tony resurfaced in January 2014 when Jason didn't answer his calls and was worried. Realising how much of a lousy father he was, Tony decided to make more of an effort and later bought the Builder's Yard for Jason, allowing him to start his own business named Jason's Construction.

Tony later began a relationship with Liz McDonald, who is the owner of the pub named the Rover Return Inn. He also went into business with Tracy Barlow and Rob Donovan and sold them dodgy gear for them to sell in their shop at Barlow's Buys.

After Rob was arrested for murdering barmaid Tina McIntyre, Tony felt bad for Tracy and the pair of them began to have an affair. When he grew attracted to Tracy and wanted to be with her, the two conspired to get the Rovers from Steve and Liz so the pair of them could have it. Tony already owned half the pub as he bought Steve's share to help him pay his debts. The lid was blown on their scheme and Liz dumped Tony, and Tony left the area. He returned several months later to try and reconcile with Liz. She tricked him into signing over his share of the pub, before then dumping Tony in front of the regulars. Tony had enough of Coronation Street and left for Birmingham, but not before saying goodbye to Jason.

Tony suddenly passed away from a heart attack in his flat in April 2016.
