Tony Zucco (Matsudaverse)

Anthony "Tony" Zucco appears as an antagonist in season 4 of The Batman, serving as the main antagonist of "A Matter of Family".

Biography[]

Zucco was once part of a circus knife-throwing act: his father would be the one strapped to the board, while he would be the one throwing the knives. One time, he accidentally missed and hit his father instead of the board, killing him.

When he grew up, Zucco became a mobster in Gotham City, along with his three brothers, which formed his gang. One time, he tried to extort money out of The Flying Graysons of Haly's Circus, John and Mary Grayson, along with their son, Dick, telling them to pay him protection money. When they refused, Zucco tried to use force, but was stopped by Batman. He and his gang escaped, though leaving one member (the lion tamer) captured by the police. However, this wasn't the end of the line for Zucco, as, in revenge for not paying him the protection money and for his brother's arrest, he took the two nuts that the Graysons used for their stunts, which caused the railings to snap and for John and Mary to plummet to their deaths, leaving Dick traumatized and desperate for revenge against Zucco.

After Bruce Wayne adopted Dick following the deaths of his parents, he went out as Batman searching for Zucco in order to bring him to justice at last. Batman attacked Zucco's remaining brothers, the juggler and the strongman, interrogating the latter about his whereabouts. Although he refused to tell Batman anything, he recognized the popcorn bucket the strongman was holding, and where it came from, thus leading Batman to Zucco's lair in Haly's Circus, the same circus the Graysons performed in.

Zucco tied Batman to a board and started throwing knives at him, while telling the story of his dad's death, as the situation reminded him of it. Zucco threw one final knife directed at Batman's face, but it was stopped by Dick in his new alias of Robin, who helped Batman fight Zucco. After a while, Zucco, in a cowardly move, climbed up to the top of one of the towers that the Graysons once performed their stunts on. Batman appeared, scaring Zucco and causing him to fall off, but Robin caught him before he met his demise wanting him to face justice. Zucco was taken into custody to be prosecuted for his crimes.

Trivia[]

He is one of the few villains not captured by Rumor, the others being Clayface, Killgore Steed, Nolan, Everywhere Man, Rhino and Mugsy.
This is the second incarnation of Zucco in animated media, the first being his DCAU counterpart.
It is entirely possible (though unconfirmed) that his cold and sadistic nature is due to the trauma of his father's death.
