Tork is a supporting antagonist in the computer-generated French television series Tales of Tatonka. He is an arrogant, cunning, and aggressive mountain lion. He is often portrayed as a predator that the main characters must escape. He seems to be the main enemy of Cinksi the young Bobcat as shown many times when they face each other.

Appearance[]

Tork is a Puma (mountain lion) with golden-brown fur with reddish brown and white markings.

History[]

Season 1[]

Empty River[]

Tork is first mentioned when Cinksi teases Wanji about being afraid while they search for the cause of the fish disappearance on the Renegades Wolves territory.

Pahin the Reckless[]

Tork first appears when Wanji and Yamni are running among the geysers. He spots their friends watching the race and decides to target them. But Tatonka bellows loudly, attracting the attention of the young animals, who spot Tork. The Puma then decides to attack immediately. He chases Cinksi up a tree but soon turns his eyes to Pahin, but the Porcupine curls up into a ball and Tork touches the quills with his front paws. Injured, the Puma flees.

Nose for Danger[]

One day, Tork decided to go hunting in the wolf's territory. Word of his presence spread quickly, and Wicasa and Winyan set out to find him. Meanwhile, Wanji, Cinksi, and Wahi decided to find the predator themselves, unaware that Tork was already hunting them. Soon they were joined by Yamni, Nunpa, and Topa, and they all confronted Tork. The Puma questioned them about their presence, claiming they were in his territory. Wanji took the blame, but Tork shrugged it off, claiming he'd been tracking them for moons. Cinksi caught Tork's attention by climbing a tree. Tork followed but fell out. As the Puma got back up, he found the wolf cubs and the young lynx had run off. He was about to follow them but was intercepted at Wicasa and Winyan. The Puma decided to attack them instead, but Wicasa summoned all the wolves in the pack. Seeing that he was outnumbered, Tork left the area.

A Difficult decision[]

Tork is briefly mentioned by Moose as he is injured in the canyon.

Bears will be Bears[]

Tork secretly spies on the wolf cubs building a private den for Poum so he can hibernate there when his uncle Mato is hibernating during the winter. After a long time of watching, the Puma finally decides to take action and attacks Poum while he sleeps. Wanji, Nunpa, Cinksi, and Tap-Tap come to his rescue before Tork is chased away by Mato, who has been alerted by Tatonka.

Voice of the MountIain[]

When Cinksi leads his friends to a place he calls the Talking Mountain, they run into Tork as they approach a water source. It is revealed in this episode that Tork lives in the mountain. A desperate and thirsty Wahi unintentionally wakes up the Puma, which begins to chase them. Eventually, he is distracted by Wanji while the others drop a rock very close to him, causing Tork to flee.

Earthquake[]

After the earthquake, Tork went to the river to hunt. He came across the wolf cubs who were helping Tap-Tap rebuild her Dam. The Puma then decided to track the Beaver. At night, he was about to attack, but a tremor prevented him and he saw Tap-Tap take refuge in Pahin's burrow for the night. The next day when Tap-Tap returned to her dam, Tork attacked her, but as he cornered her on the dam, another tremor occurs and Tork fell into the river, carried away by the current.

Strange sounds[]

Tork spots the cubs as Wahi warns them of a whimper he heard. He follows them to the arch in the canyon, but Tatonka stops him from attacking them. Tork, seeing that he has no chance against the bison, leaves, telling the cubs to stay in their territory.

The Night of the Shooting Stars[]

Tork does not appear in this episode, but he is mentioned numerous times due to the cubs' presence in his territory to observe shooting stars. The group encounters the coyotes Kallisca, Maslika, and Widco, but Cinksi scares them off by imitating Tork.

Season 2[]

Big Poum[]

Tork watches for Poum while the bear cub ventures into the geysers. Poum clings to a tree with his claws and Tork decides to wait for the bear cub to let go so he can eat him. He is intercepted by the cubs and Cinksi but decides to focus on Poum due to the group's exhaustion. But he is ultimately scared off when Moose, Wahi, and Tatonka throw rocks at him, causing him to flee.

Drought[]

Tork goes to the lake to drink during the drought. He scares the coyote trio with his mere presence, and later his gaze meets Wahi's. But since Tork had come to the lake to drink, he leaves Wahi alone and returns to his territory.

Black Sun[]

Tork appears briefly, watching the group onto the frozen lake and approaching to attack. During the solar eclipse, he attempts to catch Moose, but he slips and fails to reach him. Eventually, he gives up and leaves.

Personality[]

Tork is arrogant, cunning, stubborn, and disrespectful. Always looking for easy prey. He is also very bold and doesn't hesitate to try to attack Wicasa and Winyan. But he knows when to recognize an opponent he can't beat, like Tatonka, Mato, or the entire Wolf pack.

Triva[]

  • Tork is the only antagonist of Tales of Tatonka to encounter other antagonists, in that case the coyotes.
  • The fact that Tork inspires fear in coyotes makes sense, because in real life, mountain lions are the natural predators of coyotes.
  • The rivalry between Cinksi and Tork is not common because lynx and pumas almost never meet in the wild.
  • Tork is portrayed as actively and disrespectfully seeking out prey all days. Real mountain lions are crepuscular, meaning they are most active at dusk and dawn
